Ready Check: Looking into DKP loot systems

[hide]Ready Check[/hide] helps you prepare yourself and your raid for the bosses that simply require killing. Check back with Ready Check each week for the latest pointers on killing adds, not standing in fire, and hoping for loot that won’t drop.

Welcome back, raiders. In our last edition, we talked about the [hide]importance of having a solid loot system[/hide] as a part of a solid raiding team. Loot is the end result of playing this game, no matter which sector it is that you choose to focus on. Having a great distribution system for all the shiny trinkets that your raid stumbles across insider the corpses of giant beasts helps to ensure that everything runs smoothly. As was mentioned last week, each loot system is judged based on how equally it distributes loot as well as how well it rewards player participation.

This week, we’ll be taking a look at one of the more common loot systems that you come across in WoW and how they all rank. Remember, loot distribution is always something that should be taken seriously, but more than that, there is no one right answer. Which system works for one raid group might not pan out for another. The ultimate goal is to avoid any and all loot problems in a raid; provided that a system avoids that, then the rest doesn’t matter.[hide]Continue reading Ready Check: Looking into DKP loot systems[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Raiding[/hide], [hide]Ready Check (Raiding)[/hide][hide]Ready Check: Looking into DKP loot systems[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 17:00:00 EST. The Daily Quest: Lego the nerfbat

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

So there I was, idly surfing around YouTube for some particularly cringe-worthy Nerf commercials from the 1980s when I saw the video above. It didn’t take more than a half a second for the theme song to immediately lodge itself in my brain on repeat. I need it out of my brain, so I’m sharing it with all of you — you can thank me later.

Now where were we? Oh that’s right, Nerf — or rather the [hide]recent nerfing[/hide] of Firelands content. The blogosphere is buzzing about the topic, and I’ve found a few posts to share with you about it.

[hide]Restokin[/hide] shares a few thoughts on the 4.2 raid nerfs, looking at both sides of the extreme and everyone [hide]in between, too[/hide].

[hide]Marks-365[/hide] goes over some of the biggest boss changes with the [hide]Firelands nerfs[/hide].

[hide]Bubblespec[/hide] looks at the changes from a raider’s perspective and comes back feeling [hide]a little deflated[/hide].

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Raid Rx: Firelands nerfs

Every week, [hide]Raid Rx[/hide] will help you quarterback your healers to victory! Your host is [hide]Matt Low[/hide], the grand poohbah of [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and a founder of [hide]Plus Heal[/hide], a discussion community for healers of all experience levels and interests. Catch his weekly podcast on healing, raiding and leading, the [hide]Matticast[/hide].

The great Firelands nerf has arrived! Those of you who have been struggling on progression bosses (normal mode or heroic mode) will no doubt have found that the the barriers have been lowered significantly. Good or bad, that’s entirely up to you and your philosophy. On the one hand, content is now much more accessible. On the other hand, there are many of you who wish you had had more time to take down bosses pre-nerf.

The overall nerf, though, changes several aspects of healing. I find myself not needing to work as hard. That doesn’t necessarily mean not paying attention during a raid. With a lower amount of healing required (due to lower damage on several bosses), it just means fewer spells having to go out. Even though it might feel a little demoralizing to me, it is a little relieving in the sense that content can be seen more easily by players who normally wouldn’t have been able to experience it.

We’ll go over my thoughts on this week, along with some ways to make healing engaging again.[hide]Continue reading Raid Rx: Firelands nerfs[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Raid Rx (Raid Healing)[/hide][hide]Raid Rx: Firelands nerfs[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 19:00:00 EST. The Light and How to Swing It: Overthrowing the Fire Lord

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]The Light and How to Swing It[/hide] for [hide]holy[/hide], [hide]protection[/hide] and [hide]retribution[/hide] paladins. Protection specialist Matt Walsh spends most of his time receiving concussions for the benefit of 24 other people, obsessing over his hair (a blood elf racial!), and maintaining the tankadin-focused blog [hide]Righteous Defense[/hide].

Ragnaros, the Fire Lord, returns from vanilla WoW with a flaming vengeance as the last boss of the Firelands. Thanks to the recent hotfix nerfs or the culmination of weeks of hard work chipping away at the raid, many groups will be running up against Ragnaros for the first time and throwing their bodies at his waves upon waves of fiery doom.

As a whole, the fight isn’t particularly intensive to tank — there’s no real equivalent to Nefarian’s add phase here for tanks — but it’s still going to be a challenge. This encounter is the ultimate «don’t stand in bad» and will require your utmost attention to avoid being burnt to a crisp in an unfortunate moment of tunnel-visioning. Strap on those attention goggles, zip up that flame-retardant suit, and glyph that Divine Protection. We’ve got an elemental lord to cast down.[hide]Continue reading The Light and How to Swing It: Overthrowing the Fire Lord[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Paladin[/hide], [hide](Paladin) The Light and How to Swing It[/hide][hide]The Light and How to Swing It: Overthrowing the Fire Lord[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 20:00:00 EST. WRUP: A small stuffed animal and interesting pieces of jewelry

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, «What are you playing this week?» — otherwise known as [hide]WRUP[/hide]. Join us to see what we’re up to in and out of game, and catch us in the comments to let us know what you’re playing, too!

If you’ll allow me a moment to fabricate an email from a fan, I offer you this forgery:

Dear Fox,

I read [hide]last week’s WRUP[/hide] about how to find a the lady of your dreams at BlizzCon. That’s all well and good for the men in your audience, but I’m a lady myself! How do I find true love at a convention filled with nerds?

Good question, female reader I just made up. You’re probably just a [redacted], and men don’t need that. Thankfully, though, you can be fixed by being something you’re not. No more lonely nights watching a rerun of Dallas with a pint of ice cream!

Remember, men really love their sports teams. Now, since you’re female, you’re prevented from knowing anything about sports at all because that section of your brain is loaded with all sorts of information about lipstick or whatever. So at least learn about an attractive sports player, since we’re pretty sure a woman of the ’80s like you can handle at least that. So yeah, how about Brady Quinn, am I right? Wait, does he even still play? I don’t follow sports, you understand. I just follow players I find attractive.

Anyway. If you’re one of those people in this town who could really use good news, this is your lucky day. WRUP is just past the break, and there are plenty of eligible men waiting for you! Let’s tap that gold mine![hide]Continue reading WRUP: A small stuffed animal and interesting pieces of jewelry[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Insider Business[/hide][hide]WRUP: A small stuffed animal and interesting pieces of jewelry[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 21:00:00 EST. Minecraft скрестили с World of Warcraft

Как мог бы выглядеть гибрид инди-sandbox игры [hide]Minecraft[/hide] и знаменитой MMORPG [hide]World of Warcraft[/hide] от Blizzard Entertainment?

Breakfast Topic: What will you be wearing the first day of transmogrification?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

Since the announcement of the new [hide]transmogrification[/hide] system in patch 4.3, I’ve been thinking a lot about what sets I’d like to collect for my character. My main is a Blood Elf paladin, so naturally I’ve been grabbing a friend to blaze through Blackwing Lair once a week to finish off my [hide]Judgement[/hide] set. However, I am certain on day one of the update, Azeroth will be filled with pallies rocking the same duds.

How can a fashionable Sin’dorei stand out in the crowd? I did some research online and have been reminded of a number of great sets that aren’t raid tier but look just as good. I finally settled on the very blood-knightish [hide]Red Lawbringer[/hide] (at least for my retribution gear set), easily farmed out of various Burning Crusade regular and heroic dungeons. As for my alt death knight, I’ve been traveling to Dalaran weekly to spend his excess justice points on [hide]tier 10[/hide], because (as I’m sure we can all agree) there aren’t many things in this world more wicked-looking than a Worgen in Scourgelord Battlegear!

What gear will you be wearing on patch day? Are you collecting an old tier set (or have you saved a favorite in your bank all this time)? Or are you putting together a more avant-garde look? Will you have different transmog looks for particular gear sets? Or does all this doll-dressing business not interest you in the least?

Gold Capped: Epic gems in patch 4.3

[hide][/hide]
Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen and [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] aim to show you how to make money on the Auction House. [hide]Email Basil[/hide] with your questions, comments, or hate mail!

[hide]Epic gems[/hide] will come in patch 4.3. They’ll not be prospectable from Pyrite or anything else — instead they will drop from geodes on raid bosses. This may not be the final design, but it’s what Blizzard has decided so far. The people who need the gems most are going to be the source for the uncut gems, and the quantity available will be very low.

Every time I’ve talked about this before, I’ve hedged my bets that Blizzard might drastically change the design for epic gems compared to the last expansion. As things turn out, it did, and we’re going back to a design reminiscent of epic gems in The Burning Crusade, which were mostly available to raiders. Everyone who [hide]stockpiled Pyrite[/hide] now has to decide what to do with it.[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Epic gems in patch 4.3[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Economy[/hide], [hide]Gold Capped[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: Epic gems in patch 4.3[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 09:00:00 EST.
