Patch 4.3 PTR: Build 14791 hits servers

Another PTR push, and again [hide]Wowheadnews is there[/hide] to explore it. What surprises does this latest build conceal? Well, for starters, there are new strings for the Dragon Soul raid’s maps, new icons for a Deathwing raid dagger and a PVP shield, and a host of ability changes aimed at spreading the new attack power for melee. Reverberation seems to be taking a hit on Wind Shear’s cooldown reduction, most likely to fall in line with a new cooldown on the spell.

It doesn’t look to be a huge patch, but it’s definitely a new build. Head over to Wowheadnews to [hide]check out the datamining[/hide].

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with [hide]patch 4.3[/hide]. Patch 4.3 PTR: Streamlining changes for Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman

The latest[hide] Patch 4.3 PTR[/hide] notes have a significant change in them for those of us running heroics for Valor Points (that is to say, everyone running them). When [hide]Patch 4.3[/hide] drops and the Zandalari heroics are dropped down into the common pool of heroics, it’ll be easier to complete the dungeons. Why is that, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you.

Patch 4.3.0 PTR Notes

Zul’Gurub

Players now only have to kill two of the four initial dungeon bosses (High Priest Venoxis, Broodlord Mandokir, High Priestess Kilnara, and Zanzil) to face Jin’do the Godbreaker.

Zul’Aman

Players now only have to kill two of the four Troll avatars before they may face Hex Lord Malacrass.

[hide]source[/hide]

This means you’ll only need to kill two of the bosses to get to the end in the case of ZG, and two plus Hex Lord to get to the end of ZA. The good news is, this will make these dungeons go a lot faster. The bad news is, good luck convincing a group to kill [hide]Dragonhawk[/hide] or [hide]Kilnara[/hide]. This is a fairly big sign that Blizz expects us to be saying goodbye to these instances as soon as we can get into the new Twilight five mans.

I’m all for it, myself. I hate running ZG now, it takes forever. But I can definitely see people objecting to the way this will force them to miss out on mount changes or loot from bosses no one wants to do.

MMO Roundup: Titan, why you gotta hurt me like this?

Sometimes you’d like to know that there are other MMOs out there, right? It’s not all WoW, all the time! Our sister site [hide]Massively[/hide] can provide you with everything you need to know about all of the other MMOs around — past, present and future.

[hide][/hide]

[hide]Blizzard’s not talking about its unannounced MMO at BlizzCon this year[/hide]

Remember that one time when Blizzard accidentally leaked some info stating that it’s working on a new MMO (codenamed Titan), and we all got excited? And then BlizzCon happened, and we all thought the studio would tell us more, but it didn’t? And then remember when that happened the next year, too? Well, it’s happening again this year.

[hide]BioWare founders: We make the decisions, not EA[/hide]

BioWare has a message for critical fans who blame the company’s perceived inadequacies on its corporate overlords at Electronic Arts. «I always chuckle because we are EA, we’re BioWare — we’re both, and we still have huge autonomy in terms of what we do,» cofounder Greg Zeschuk recently told Eurogamer.

[hide]MMO impressions from Eurogamer Expo 2011[/hide]

Some of the industry’s biggest names were at Eurogamer Expo last week, including BioWare, NCsoft and Trion Worlds. Massively’s Brendain Drain was on the floor at the expo to get some hands-on experience with several upcoming MMOs, including Guild Wars 2 and The Old Republic.

WoW Archivist: Patch 1.12, Drums of War

The [hide]WoW Archivist[/hide] explores the secrets of World of Warcraft’s past. What did the game look like years ago? Who is etched into WoW’s history? What secrets does the game still hold?

I’m not ashamed to admit when I’ve made a mistake. Which is good, because today’s Archivist would be awkward otherwise. Last week’s [hide]classic WoW recap[/hide] was a smidge premature. I haven’t covered patch 1.12 yet. Why? Because I thought patch 1.12 was patch 2.0. Patch 2.0 would go with the Burning Crusade-era patches. Patch 1.12 isn’t patch 2.0, however, so we’re mired in classic WoW for one more week.

Patch 1.12, Drums of War, released in August of 2006. It contained the feature that has set the standard for all group content in World of Warcraft: cross-realm Battlegrounds. In addition to cross-realm Battlegrounds, patch 1.12 also included sanctioned world PVP (which didn’t work) and a number of UI improvements that you probably take for granted all these years later.

Let’s dive in, shall we?[hide]Continue reading WoW Archivist: Patch 1.12, Drums of War[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Archivist[/hide][hide]WoW Archivist: Patch 1.12, Drums of War[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 20:00:00 EST. Patch 4.3: Valor changes and ilevel clarifications

Community manager Bashiok has posted a number of clarifications as to how valor points are going to function come [hide]patch 4.3[/hide]. Blizzard seems to be caught in an endless loop of reassessing their approach to justice and valor points and this patch is really going to drive that home. In short:

Patch 4.3 Valor Changes

Looking for Dungeon — 150 VP per run, with a cap of seven runs per week. All Cataclysm heroic dungeons introduced in 4.0, 4.1, and 4.3, will provide 150 Valor per run.

Looking for Raid — 250 VP per run, with a cap of 500 per week. The 4.3 raid, Dragon Soul, will be split into two separate raids for the Raid Finder. While individual bosses do not drop Valor when using the Raid Finder, you will receive 250 Valor for completing each Dragon Soul raid. Each boss will only drop loot for you once per week, but you will continue to get the 250 Valor for completing each Raid Finder raid, up to the 500 cap.

10 player raid boss — 115 VP. There are nine bosses per week, counting Baradin Hold.

25 player raid boss — 135 VP. There are nine bosses per week, counting Baradin Hold.

Valor Points cap at 1000 per week.

[hide]source[/hide]

Blizzard’s stated aim is to return to the days of valor points being a consolation prize rather than being central to the gearing process. Интерфейс переплавки улучшат в патче 4.3

Новый интерфейс для переплавки показателей предметов появился на тестовом сервере MMOPRG World of Warcraft от компании Blizzard Entertainment, [hide]сообщает[/hide] WoW Insider.

MMORPG World of Warcraft, [hide]утверждает[/hide] Blizzard Entertainment.

В патче 4.3 стражник ужаса чернокнижников MMORPG World of Warcraft будет бить слабее, [hide]сообщила[/hide] компания Blizzard Entertainment на американских официальных форумах игры.

Breakfast Topic: Would you play WoW if it had no levels?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

A recent discussion in [hide]The Queue[/hide] brought up the idea that perhaps WoW’s Recruit-A-Friend could have been [hide]done differently[/hide]. The point of RAF’s bonus XP is to help you friend get to the max level as fast as possible to play with you. This is essentially so that they can experience endgame content, as opposed to leveling content. Unfortunately, WoW as an RPG relies on story for raids to be meaningful as anything other than a loot grind. Players who level too quickly may miss out on lore. In addition, quick leveling also means less time learning character skills needed to raid, and we’ve all seen the guy who bought a level 85 warrior but still didn’t know how to taunt.

But what if leveling speed isn’t RAF’s problem? What if the problem is the concept of levels themselves? If you want to play Mario Kart with a friend, you just jump in. Skill becomes the only barrier, and fun gameplay mechanics take over the grind. It also makes it a lot easier to close the gap between you and your friend in a fun way. The same goes for most FPS, RTS and fighter games … Only RPGs put this artificial barrier in place.

However, removing level would affect other areas of gameplay. Quests could be lore- and appearance-centric, rather than grind- and gear-centric. Since all players are at the same level, queues for instanced content would go down and it would be easier to get bodies for raids. The rest of the game world would also be easier to expand and utilize, since developers wouldn’t need to worry about sheltering level 15s against level 80s. It would, though, make alts more common, which may be problematic in gear acquisition for people’s mains for those who raid.

Would you play a WoW without levels, or is there something about levels that is still needed?
