Blood Pact: Learning from the witch doctor

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

I have been grateful as of late to have been invited into the Diablo 3 beta. While this might just seem like some bragging that has no relation to WoW, you couldn’t be more wrong. If there is one thing that I have learned while playing through Diablo 3, it is that the game has been heavily influenced by the many paths that WoW has taken over the years. While the ARPG and MMO genre may not appear to have much crossover at first glance, the fundamentals are all there, more so in a game such as Diablo.

The witch doctor class in particular has been heavily inspired not just by the Diablo necromancer but also by WoW’s warlock, even going so far as to have the [hide]Haunt[/hide] spell, much in the same capacity that we do. As much as the development team has clearly learned from WoW, I think it is fair to say that there are quite a few things that went into creating such an amazing new game, and some of those things can also be brought back into WoW.[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: Learning from the witch doctor[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: Learning from the witch doctor[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 03 Oct 2011 19:00:00 EST. Two Bosses Enter: Jan’alai vs. Zanzil

In [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide], WoW Insider’s series of fantasy death matches, the bosses of World of Warcraft face off in the squared circle. Your vote determines who wins and claims the season title.

It’s a rumble in the jungle where two big names in the Zul’circle face off in WoW Insider’s ring. Jan’alai, avatar of the dragonhawk, faces off against potion master Zanzil and his crazy concoctions. I think that this could be one of the more interesting fights in this season of Two Bosses Enter. Troll versus Troll, Zul’Aman versus Zul’Gurub. Choose your empire!

Last week’s fight went as predicted. Vanessa VanCleef, mistress of poisons and daughter of the late, great Edwin VanCleef, beat out Daakara by just shy of a thousand votes. Wow. You guys sure do love Vanessa. I love her, too — but come on lady, put on some pants. Azerothian winters are going to be cold this year.

Сфера хаоса утратит статус персонального предмета

В патче 4.3 MMORPG World of Warcraft [hide]сферы хаоса[/hide] больше не будут становиться персональными при поднятии, [hide]сообщил[/hide] представитель компании Blizzard Entertainment на официальных форумах игры.

Wrath of the Lich King, ледяные шары сначала также становились персональными при поднятии, однако утратили этот статус в течение жизни этого аддона.

All the World’s a Stage: Roleplaying plot points Q&A

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. In World of Warcraft, that player is you! Each week, [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] brings you [hide]All the World’s a Stage[/hide] with helpful hints, tips and tricks on the art of roleplay in WoW.

Well, I’ve certainly had fun covering the different plot points out there for roleplayers of any Warcraft race to pick up on. Keep in mind, though, that these articles are merely suggestions for relevant topics your character could potentially be interested in — they are certainly not the be all and end all of interesting things for your character to talk about. Hopefully, you guys were able to find a good idea or two in all that lore to sink your teeth into!

Today, I’m going back through the plot point series, checking out the comments and answering any questions you guys may have had about the various points brought up in this series. There are a lot of really good questions here, so let’s get started!

Possum asked, from [hide]Night Elf plot points[/hide]:

In regards to the Night Elf mages, I was under the impression that all PC mages created were Highborne? To me this makes a lot more sense. Letting the Highborne back into society tentatively I can see out of desperation, but having them train/corrupt their youth?[hide]Continue reading All the World’s a Stage: Roleplaying plot points Q&A[/hide]Filed under: [hide]All the World’s a Stage (Roleplaying)[/hide][hide]All the World’s a Stage: Roleplaying plot points Q&A[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 02 Oct 2011 20:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: How do you want WoW crafting to change?

[hide][/hide]
This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

Face it: WoW crafting is boring. Learn a recipe, put in the materials, click to create. Repeat again and again to skill up and get new recipes. The end. We have exciting-sounding skills such as engineering and alchemy, but we have no experimentation and little customization! While we’ve gotten crafting dailies to make the skill-ups a little more fun outside the usual materials grind, Blizzard should probably update how crafting skills work.

Personally, I’d love a system that favors some creativity. Imagine if materials for alchemists were in certain classification: increase or decrease, physical or mental, strength or speed, endurance or power, etc. If you mix an increase reagent with a physical, mental, or power one, you’ll make a strength potion. Choose decrease, mental, speed, and endurance, and maybe you make a consumable potion that lowers mana/rage/energy/runic power/focus to targets within the blast radius. No premade recipes, just players experimenting with the game. I can see a similar situation for cooking (mm, spicy chocolate gator bacon!).

Gathering could be redone a bit, too. Imagine if you could break down items to get certain materials, sort of like enchanting. Skinners can break down leather for rare hides, miners can melt down armor to retrieve rare minerals, herbalists could … pick mushrooms out of pies?

What would you like to see change in WoW crafting? Dyes added to change armor color results? Choosing blades and hilts when crafting a weapon? RP leather armor and whip options tied to custom emotes for those nights in Goldshire?

Drama Mamas: Taking guild drama to Facebook

[hide]Drama Mamas[/hide] Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas — and just as we don’t want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

Drama is as drama does.

Dear Drama Mamas,

This is something I thought you’d be interested in. WoW being a social community and Facebook being the king of social connectivity right now, I’d like to share recent activities in my guild involving Facebook.

To start from the beginning, about a year ago I quit my first guild with a large group to go form a raiding guild. The guild we left was a very large rp guild on an rp server. I was reluctant to leave the guild, as I had a lot of friends there, including the GM and it was my first guild ever. Needless to say, the way the group presented our leaving did not sit well with the gm of the guild we left. Toons were kicked, we were black listed, harassed, snubbed, etc.[hide]Continue reading Drama Mamas: Taking guild drama to Facebook[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]Guilds[/hide], [hide]Drama Mamas[/hide][hide]Drama Mamas: Taking guild drama to Facebook[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 03 Oct 2011 09:00:00 EST.
