Gold Capped: Getting rich off the real-money auction house?

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] and Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Capitalism is the best, and communism is for dirty, Soviet-sympathizing hippies. If you disagree, [hide]email Fox[/hide] or twitter him [hide]@foxvanallen[/hide] so you can be added to the CIA’s «list.»

When I first picked up playing the auction house game as a hobby, it was pretty low stakes. After all, I was playing with fake money, amassing a largely non-negotiable fortune that I didn’t know what to do with. One million gold — what was it good for? I couldn’t use it to buy a new car; I couldn’t use it to pay my rent. Heck, I couldn’t even use it to pay for my WoW subscription. It was a majestic fortune usable only in a world that didn’t exist, forever trapped behind the computer screen.

One week ago today, Blizzard dropped a bombshell: Diablo 3 would contain a [hide]real-money auction house[/hide]. Need a new weapon to give you a little bit of an extra edge? Fork over $4.99. Need money for lunch next week? Log on, and sell a portion of your in-game fortune for real-life cash.

Of course, that’s just for the new Diablo 3 game. But you can’t help but start thinking … what if? What if Blizzard started to allow real-money transactions in WoW? Could it? Would it? And if it did, could we actually use this to make some serious, significant real-life money?[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Getting rich off the real-money auction house[/hide]?[hide]Gold Capped: Getting rich off the real-money auction house[/hide]? originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 16:00:00 EST. Blood Pact: What to do once you hit level 85

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

A few months ago when I first took over writing Blood Pact, one of the first things that I wrote was a leveling guide for new warlocks. While the vast majority of what was written there still holds true today (and I certainly am not about to rewrite history), I’ve realized that the scheme of how to level, or at least how to proceed once you first reach the level cap, is different from what it was then. As an MMO, WoW is constantly changing. There are times when these changes alter the way in which we do things.

Old news as it might be by now, 4.2 had a drastic impact on more than you think at first glance. This week, we’ll be going into detail on those changes, looking at the new way of handling your first time at the level cap. It’s a brand new world out there; get ready to dive in head first.[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: What to do once you hit level 85[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: What to do once you hit level 85[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 17:00:00 EST. The Daily Quest: Panda-monium

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

Pandaren. Adorable, absurd, or the subject of the [hide]next expansion[/hide]? Talk about the supposed Mists of Pandaria expansion has been split between people who think pandaren would be amazing and people who are highly offended at the prospect of talking pandas infiltrating their highly serious game with the talking cows, doggy people, and little green men. Personally, I think it’s an entertaining prospect with a lot of potential. But I do love me some pandaren, so I’m biased, probably.

As for the rest of the blogsphere … well, how about we take a look at some links and see what they have to say?

[hide]Blessing of Kings[/hide] is cautiously optimistic about the whole idea of a [hide]pandaren expansion[/hide].

[hide]Player vs. Developer[/hide] ponders the potential of [hide]Pandaria[/hide].

[hide]The Dead Good Tanking Guide[/hide] is intrigued by the prospect of Pandaria, and the author has his own thoughts regarding what the [hide]expansion could contain[/hide].

[hide]MMO Melting Pot[/hide] goes over what they know — which is absolutely nothing, much like the rest of us, so it’s up to some fun speculation and [hide]outright guesswork[/hide]!

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for tauren roleplayers

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. In World of Warcraft, that player is you! Each week, [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] brings you [hide]All the World’s a Stage[/hide] with helpful hints, tips and tricks on the art of roleplay in WoW.

The Horde has experienced a number of dramatic changes in the Cataclysm expansion. In vanilla, the Horde was struggling, largely due to a lack of resources. In Cataclysm, largely due to Garrosh Hellscream’s efforts, the Horde has expanded its borders. With the help of the goblins, Azshara is being mined for a wealth of resources, and land is being grabbed all over Kalimdor. Things are beginning to look up for the Horde — well, if you’re in Orgrimmar. Elsewhere, the land is riddled with turmoil and tragedy.

If you’re roleplaying a tauren, the events of Cataclysm are a bitter pill to swallow. A leader has been lost, entire settlements have been wiped from the map, racial infighting between the Grimtotem and the tauren of Thunder Bluff continues to rage. Yet in between it all are moments of hope — and it’s up to roleplayers to decide whether to wallow in the sorrow, fight back in fury, or simply try and keep an optimistic amidst it all.[hide]Continue reading All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for tauren roleplayers[/hide]Filed under: [hide]All the World’s a Stage (Roleplaying)[/hide][hide]All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for tauren roleplayers[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 07 Aug 2011 20:00:00 EST. Патч 4.2.0а готовится к выходу

В ближайшее время выйдет небольшой патч 4.2.0а для MMORPG World of Warcraft : Cataclysm, [hide]сообщает[/hide] компания Blizzard Entertainment.

MMORPG World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Breakfast Topic: What would you like to see implemented in WoW?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

Today’s Breakfast Topic is going to be very open, and I’m sure its comments will be extremely hectic … so let’s dig in! What would you like to see implemented in World of Warcraft? Anything. Anything. I’m not asking which achievements you think Blizzard should add, what mounts should come next, or what new abilities you would like to see (though you’re entirely welcome to share those.) I am asking the very open and simple question: What would you like to see implemented in World of Warcraft? Period.

I understand this is a huge and potentially disastrously complex question, so maybe I’ll get you guys started off. I would like to see a vanity/cosmetic set appearance tab. I would like to see a title for having 40+ titles (as seen in [hide]my first-ever Breakfast Topic[/hide].) I would like to see more gold sinks and more passenger mounts!

Share your ideas! What would you like to see implemented? Achievements? Mounts? Titles? Pets? Abilities? Weapons? Armor? Graphics? Professions? Monsters? Bosses? Raids? Zones? Items? Roleplaying aids? A new system? Races? Classes? Anything! It doesn’t have to be on that list. Simply post your heart’s desire about the #1 thing you think Blizzard should add to its already huge and open-ended World of Warcraft.
