Blood Pact: Looking at tier 13 bonuses

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

Many welcomes back once again, favored warlocks. If, like me, you are a studious creature of the night who probably has coffee flowing through his veins instead of anything closely resembling blood, then you know that late on Saturday night, Blizzard released some fun new information. My personal favorite CM (just don’t tell the others), Zarhym, released the new set bonuses associated with the up-and-coming tier 13. While at first we cursed that Zar would have the audacity to post such a thing in the wee hours of night, let’s take a look at what we’re to expected for the next patch and the terrible implications that come with it.

All does not seem to be well in the house of warlocks, my friends. Both of our newest tier sets hold warning signs of terrible things to come. We’ll be looking into those not-so-quiet rumblings and what they might hold for us in the next patch as we battle Deathwing himself.[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: Looking at tier 13 bonuses[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: Looking at tier 13 bonuses[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 19:00:00 EST. Shifting Perspectives: Soloing as a feral cat druid, part 2

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide] , [hide]bear[/hide], [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. Welcome to our feral cat edition, brought to you by Chase Hasbrouck, aka Alaron of [hide]The Fluid Druid[/hide] blog. Let the face clawing begin!

Last time, we cleared through [hide]the game’s level 60 content[/hide]. This week, we’ll turn things up a notch and start with material from The Burning Crusade, which is personally my favorite tier.

5-man heroics

Getting there All of The Burning Crusade 5-mans are located in Outland, with three exceptions. CoT: Durnholde and CoT: Black Morass are both accessible from the Caverns of Time, which is most easily reached (for most people) by flying east from Uldum. Magister’s Terrace is located in the Shattered Sun Offensive area, which is located at the northern tip of Eastern Kingdoms. You can fly there, but it’s easiest to go to Shattrath in Outland, which has a portal directly there.[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: Soloing as a feral cat druid, part 2[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: Soloing as a feral cat druid, part 2[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 20:00:00 EST. All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for Human roleplayers

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. In World of Warcraft, that player is you! Each week, [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] brings you [hide]All the World’s a Stage[/hide] with helpful hints, tips and tricks on the art of roleplay in WoW.

For most players, the initial thought upon roleplaying a Human character is that it ought to be pretty easy. After all, we’re all humans out here in the real world, so it shouldn’t be a stretch, right? Well … yes and no. Humans in Azeroth aren’t the only sentient race, and they aren’t even the most populated — Trolls win that title hands down. The Human race hasn’t even been around that long from an evolutionary standpoint — and it turns out the Human race itself was simply a mutation of Vrykul, caused by the Curse of the Flesh.

On top of that, the Humans of Azeroth are in a constant state of dealing with strife and war. Since year 0 in the timeline, when the Orcish race first crossed through the Dark Portal and began their lives on Azeroth, the Humans have been thrown into war after war after war. First the Orcs, then the Scourge, then the Burning Legion — it never seems to end. In Cataclysm, the Humans still aren’t getting a break, and that leaves them open to a lot of roleplay potential.[hide]Continue reading All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for Human roleplayers[/hide]Filed under: [hide]All the World’s a Stage (Roleplaying)[/hide][hide]All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for Human roleplayers[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 25 Sep 2011 16:00:00 EST. Know Your Lore: NPC evolution from TBC to Wrath of the Lich King

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You’re playing the game, you’re fighting the bosses, you know the how — but do you know the why? Each week, [hide]Matthew Rossi [/hide]and [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] make sure you [hide]Know Your Lore[/hide] by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft.

Last week, we talked about the [hide]evolution of NPCs from classic WoW to The Burning Crusade[/hide]. It was a quiet beginning to the evolution, starting with just a few NPCs in classic WoW that spawned world-altering events like The Great Masquerade. But in The Burning Crusade, we not only saw major movements from major-name players like Thrall, who actually got off the throne in Orgrimmar and traveled all the way to Nagrand to visit his long-lost relatives, but also minor players. These seemingly minor players gradually won the hearts of the playerbase through storylines that progressed with each patch in the expansion.

Characters like Cro, Jadaar, Asric and even the shifty Griftah weren’t just NPCs. They were subtle reminders that those characters we barely interacted with had lives of their own, and it breathed a new energy into the game. Suddenly, the world wasn’t just about you and whatever quest you happened to be on. It was also about Griftah’s «unfair» persecution, or Cro’s struggle to get that blasted fruit cart out of the way — mundane, ordinary, everyday events, the sort of events we witness on a daily basis in the real world. Bringing the mundane to the game made Outland feel just a little more real, too.[hide]Continue reading Know Your Lore: NPC evolution from TBC to Wrath of the Lich King[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Lore[/hide], [hide]Know your Lore[/hide][hide]Know Your Lore: NPC evolution from TBC to Wrath of the Lich King[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 25 Sep 2011 18:00:00 EST. The Light and How to Swing It: Healing by the numbers

[hide][/hide]
Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]The Light and How to Swing It[/hide] for [hide]holy[/hide], [hide]protection[/hide] and [hide]retribution[/hide] paladins. Every Sunday, [hide]Chase Christian[/hide] invites you to discuss the finer side of the paladin class: the holy specialization. Feel free to [hide]email me[/hide] with any questions you want answered, like why paladins are so awesome.

Every raid encounter is designed to challenge the players attempting it. Tanks can be faced with controlling several mobs at once, while DPSers often have enrage timers to race against. Blizzard’s developers have a few different tricks for putting healers to the test. The first and most obvious danger that healers face is the rate of incoming damage, which we have to counter with spells that are appropriately powerful. We are also often tasked with reacting quickly to stimuli, like instantly dispelling or bringing a raid group’s life back to full before another incoming attack lands.

With the release of Cataclysm, the developers specifically focused on a mechanic that had been sidelined for quite some time — [hide]mana management[/hide]. Our spells’ mana costs have been tweaked and mana regeneration capabilities have been altered to ensure that we focus on choosing the right spells. We used to be able to [hide]spam Holy Light carelessly[/hide] in Wrath, but now we can’t sustain nonstop [hide]Divine Lights[/hide] for more than a minute or two without emptying our mana bar completely. Learning to live with a limited mana supply is paramount to being a successful holy paladin in Cataclysm.[hide]Continue reading The Light and How to Swing It: Healing by the numbers[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Paladin[/hide], [hide](Paladin) The Light and How to Swing It[/hide][hide]The Light and How to Swing It: Healing by the numbers[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 25 Sep 2011 20:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: Where do you want your character to die?

[hide][/hide]
This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

Everybody knows that everybody dies, and nobody knows it more than us. Our characters have gone through so many world-changing events, from the opening of Ahn’Qiraj’s gates to the death of the Lich King to surviving the world breaker himself. But we have seen in game that not everyone can make it though this world alive — Cairne Bloodhoof and Magni Bronzebeard, just to name a few.

But if you ever needed to have your avatar lay down his or her weapon for the last time, where should it be? Would you want to die at the infamous Wrathgate, or would you be one of the many nameless killed in the cataclysm — or would you just have your character pass on in a quiet inn after leaving an eventful and adventurous life?
