The Daily Quest: A few useful bits of information

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

Looking for some useful information? Here’s your first note — pulling anything in the bar to your left while fighting [hide]Coren Direbrew[/hide] isn’t really recommended. Trust me, your group doesn’t need a bar brawl for [hide]Brewfest[/hide] authenticity. For more useful information, check out these posts from around the blogosphere.

[hide]Pugnacious Priest[/hide] has a lovely and informative post about [hide]hiding battle standards[/hide] in Battlegrounds.

[hide]The WoW Debutante[/hide] has a suggestion for an entertaining guild event [hide]based on a television show[/hide]. Sounds like fun!

[hide]Maps for Tanks[/hide] is a relatively new blog, and it’s full of … maps. For tanks! Self-explanatory, but this is a really good resource for finding paths out of those complicated dungeons.

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Patch 4.3 PTR: Inactive guild leader replacement

Blizzard has announced a new guild feature that just went live on the [hide]patch 4.3[/hide] PTR that allows a guild to oust their inactive guild leader if he or she has been away for 30 days. The entire guild will be notified via the in-game guild notification news and events window that their leader is inactive, and members with high rankings will be able to request guild leadership. Transfer of the guild will happen instantaneously.

Active guild leaders have nothing to fear. This is not a system for deposing current leaders or voting out current guild masters. This system is in place to allow members of an active guild to wrest control of the guild’s functions from an inactive leader, not perform democratic voting procedures. Many guilds are at the mercy of GMs to fix inactive problems, and this system frees up customer support for more important tasks.[hide]Continue reading Patch 4.3 PTR: Inactive guild leader replacement[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Guilds[/hide], [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Patch 4.3 PTR: Inactive guild leader replacement[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 30 Sep 2011 14:30:00 EST. Gold Capped: Upcoming Volatile Fire shortages

[hide][/hide]
Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen and [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] aim to show you how to make money on the Auction House. [hide]Email Basil[/hide] with your questions, comments, or hate mail!

[hide]Volatile Fire[/hide] is quite cheap now but will not remain so after [hide]patch 4.3[/hide]. Volatiles are a cornerstone of the crafting and economic design of WoW, as each one has several types of items that require it for production. When the prices of Volatiles increase, crafted goods go up in price and raw materials go down in price.

Very few people farm exclusively for Volatiles, as they’re usually given a small chance to drop off things that are worth considerably more than the Volatiles themselves (like ore veins and elementals). That’s part of why the Volatiles market is exceptionally susceptible to changes that change the way a lot of people play and loot. In this case for Volatile Fire, right now a ton of Fires are coming from people continuing to do Fireland dailies. Patch 4.3 is around the corner and will likely have something cooler for people do with their time than grind for entry level raiding and PVP gear. What can you do to protect yourself and profit from these changes?[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Upcoming Volatile Fire shortages[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Economy[/hide], [hide]Gold Capped[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: Upcoming Volatile Fire shortages[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 30 Sep 2011 15:00:00 EST. Phat Loot Phriday: Brewfest Keg Pony

[hide][/hide]
The trio rode out of [hide]Undercity[/hide] with a vengeance, desperately moving away from fallen [hide]Lordaeron[/hide] in hopes the guards wouldn’t notice the kitty druid looked a little funny.

A [hide]tiny pony[/hide] struggled to keep up, its back slightly bent by the massive kegs of beer. It sighed with relief when the men stopped for a rest in Hillsbrad.

«No way of knowing which way they came,» Throgg grunted. «I think we catch them from Menethil.»

The Gilnean nodded. «I can go into town and ask after her. Since the changes in the Wetlands, Menethil hasn’t had nearly the traffic. Someone might have noticed a little girl by herself; they would definitely notice some Grimtotem.»

«What will we do in the meantime?» Lolegolas pondered.

«Drink,» Throgg replied. He gestured to the pony. «Portable Brewfest. Party on the hoof!»

The druid look bemused. «You keep a keg pony on hand?»

Lolegolas blinked in response. «You mean, you don’t?»

Shifting Perspectives: First look at tier 13 for balance druids

[hide][/hide]
Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide] , [hide]bear[/hide] , [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. Balance news comes at you every Friday — learn how to master the forces of nature, and know what it means to be a giant laser turkey! Send questions, comments, or something you’d like to see to [hide]tyler@wowinsider.com[/hide].

Welcome back, druids! Last week, we started the discussion on how to properly read and review your World of Logs parses in order to spot any places where you might be having issues. While I would like to complete that series, recent events rather pushed that back for the moment. In case you aren’t in the know for some strange reason, Blizzard has released patch 4.3 onto the PTR and with it, a slew of new information.

For good or ill, there hasn’t been any balance druid information as of yet. Druids for the most part remained pretty much untouched, with the only spec seeing any changes being a minor restoration nerf. We have, however, seen the set bonuses for the upcoming tier 13, and that alone is enough to worry about. Normally, I’m rather passive when it comes to set bonuses; they are bonuses, after all. While some might be weak or strong, generally sets are pretty well balanced. This time around, though? I’m left with my head scratching to figure out what Blizzard was thinking. Let’s take a look at why.[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: First look at tier 13 for balance druids[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: First look at tier 13 for balance druids[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 30 Sep 2011 17:00:00 EST. 15 Minutes of Fame: Progressive guild thrives under uncommon leadership team

From Hollywood celebrities to the guy next door, millions of people have made World of Warcraft a part of their lives. How do you play WoW? We’re giving each approach its own [hide]15 Minutes of Fame[/hide].

There’s plenty about Wreck List of Garrosh (US-H) that’s a little different from your run-of-the-mill World of Warcraft guild. The sprawling social guild doused Ragnaros just days ago with a team of core raiders rooted by several members in their 50s and 60s. In fact, the guild is run primarily by women over the age of 50 — «at age 51, I’m the baby of the group,» admits guild leader Dkosmama. With a median member age of about 40, Wreck List boasts well over 200 members, half of them women.

Even more remarkable than its unusual gender and age mix, though, are the guild’s roots — [hide]Wreck List[/hide] is the unofficial guild of the popular progressive political blog [hide]Daily Kos[/hide]. Not limited to members from the Daily Kos community, Wreck List is open to any player looking for a sanctuary from trade chat madness, away from «threatening racist, homophobic, and misogynist language and ideas.» The group’s official Declaration of Purpose clearly states that «while guild chat is mostly non-political, it is also where we express our leftist political views, which sometimes may include a sharp word or two about Republicans. Because many guild members did not come to the Wreck List through political blogs, we do not expect everyone to hold progressive views on all issues; however, we do expect that all members respect the liberal foundation of the guild.»

An unusual balance for an entire guild? We thought so, too, and sat down to visit with Dkosmama about the balance of ideas and free expression that makes this whole group hang together.

Editor’s note: This article focuses on this group’s integration with the World of Warcraft and is not an endorsement or promotion of any particular political ideology or agenda. Please keep comments focused on the guild and its activities, rather than political ideologies.[hide]Continue reading 15 Minutes of Fame: Progressive guild thrives under uncommon leadership team[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Guilds[/hide], [hide]Interviews[/hide], [hide]15 Minutes of Fame[/hide][hide]15 Minutes of Fame: Progressive guild thrives under uncommon leadership team[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 19:00:00 EST. Every Thursday, [hide]The Overachiever[/hide] shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, all hell breaks loose.

Hey folks. The [hide]Littlest Pet Shop[/hide] option was the most popular choice in last week’s [hide]The OverAchiever: Wrapping up Mountain O’ Mounts[/hide], but that was before all manner of [hide]patch 4.3[/hide] goodness was datamined on Tuesday night. I spent the subsequent 24 hours in a caffeine-fueled haze running three characters around the PTR investigating the new achievements for you.

I bring tidings of great, albeit currently bugged, joy to you all.[hide]Continue reading The OverAchiever: Examining patch 4.3’s new achievements[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Achievements[/hide], [hide]The Overachiever[/hide][hide]The OverAchiever: Examining patch 4.3’s new achievements[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 20:00:00 EST. Patch 4.3: Raid finder feature preview

[hide][/hide]
Tonight’s late-night blog post from the World of Warcraft community managers is one we’ve all been waiting for: a raid finder preview! The blog post from Daxxarri explains precisely what the feature is and how it will work in a Q&A format. Some highlights: there are currently no plans to include Call to Arms rewards, individual boss kills will not yield valor points, and you can’t acquire legendary weapon components in raid finder raid groups.

The raid finder will also require at least one player to queue as a raid leader volunteer, so they can be saddled with the responsibility of marking targets, choosing tanks and off-tanks, and so on. A little part of my soul blackens every time I think about how much patience would be required to lead a 25-man raid PUG.

Hop after the break to check out the full raid finder Q&A.[hide]Continue reading Patch 4.3: Raid finder feature preview[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Patch 4.3: Raid finder feature preview[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 29 Sep 2011 21:38:00 EST.
