[hide]CCP partners with Nexon to release EVE Online in Japan[/hide]

The Japanese games market can be difficult for western companies to break into, with accurate client localization and translation acting as a huge potential roadblock. In an unexpected press release late last week, EVE Online developer CCP Games announced a strategic partnership with Japan-based MMO publisher Nexon to bring EVE Online to the Japanese market.

While we’ve known that DUST 514 won’t be as free as originally thought, there’s still hope for a true free-to-play version to come. WoW Archivist: World of Warcraft patch 1.6

The [hide]WoW Archivist[/hide] explores the secrets of World of Warcraft’s past. What did the game look like years ago? Who is etched into WoW’s history? What secrets does the game still hold?

Patch 1.6 has probably one of the worst patch trailers in the entirety of World of Warcraft’s history. It’s not just that there are no fancy custom animations in the trailer; such things came way later — machinima was in its infancy, so Blizzard itself saw no reason utilize those techniques or perhaps didn’t have the resources. No, it’s not just that. It’s that there is a token effort somewhere in the video to build drama and epic suspense, but it is all shattered by the image of a member of the QA team leaping about like a spaz in the background while a Judgement-donning paladin tries to set a serious tone. It just isn’t happening. How good or bad the trailer was didn’t matter back in 2005, though. Back then, it was the most exciting thing in the world.

Interestingly, the trailer is surprisingly difficult to find at all in places like YouTube or other video hosts nowadays, seemingly moreso than other patch trailers from around the same time period. Patch 1.5 and patch 1.7 have sources aplenty floating around, but patch 1.6? It just seems lost and forgotten.

In addition to Blackwing Lair, patch 1.6 also delivered:

The Darkmoon Faire

Battlemasters to ease battleground queues

The implementation (and complete disuse) of a Silvermoon Remnant faction, high elves loyal to the Alliance, aggressive to the Horde — and never used for anything of note.

Shifting Perspectives: The druid personality test

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide], [hide]bear[/hide], [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. This Tuesday, we are impressed by the scientific rigor of human interest publications.

So I was in line at the grocery store the other day when the array of magazines at the checkout stand caught my eye. Useless People Weekly was running a quiz that promised to tell you things you already knew about yourself if you would consent to answer several questions and tally the results.

«Huh,» said I. «What a marvelously scientific approach.» But it gave me, as they say, ideas.

If you’ve never played a druid before, are you interested in knowing which spec best suits your personality? If you play a druid, are you interested in being told things you already know about yourself?[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: The druid personality test[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide]Humor[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: The druid personality test[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 21:00:00 EST. Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 12

Blizzard just updated [hide]patch 4.2[/hide] with some hotfixes for July 12. Most notably, the Ragnaros encounter at the end of the Firelands raid went through many changes due to the high-end guilds’ finally making it to his chamber. Ragnaros’ enrage timer was increased, portions of his platform that were being used to dodge mechanics were changed, and the extra phase on heroic difficulty was, hopefully, fixed. The Molten Front and the Regrowth daily questing areas were also hotfixed, with wounded Hyjal defenders now appearing wounded and those pesky Windcallers now appearing a bit more quickly (if you chose the Druids of the Talons).

Ask The Devs: Healing answers coming Friday

The healer edition of the [hide]ill-fated Ask The Devs series[/hide] has been taking quite a bit longer than previous editions of the series. The healers among us took notice of that and hit the forums to find just what the heck was taking so long! Late last week, Blizzard’s Nethaera explained that the answers were delayed due to the devs’ being [hide]preoccupied with other obligations[/hide]. Today, community manager Kaivax announced that the answers would be [hide]released Friday[/hide] of this week.

Ask The Devs 11 Healing Answers Coming Friday

We will be posting a new sticky thread with the answers to thirteen of your most popular questions (on the subject of healing) on Friday, July 15th at 9AM PDT.

[hide]source[/hide]

That may the simplest, most straightforward blue post we’ve seen in nearly seven years of World of Warcraft. No qualifiers, no «Soon,» and no wordplay. High-five, Kaivax. You may be my new favorite.

Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects discounted for preorder on Amazon

Christie Golden’s second Cataclysm novel, Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects, is coming out on July 19, and Amazon has the cheapest copies around. The [hide]hardcover edition[/hide] is currently available for preorder for $16.21 and the [hide]Kindle version[/hide] for just $12.99.

The first Cataclysm novel by Golden, [hide]The Shattering[/hide], told the prequel story of the newest expansion. Garrosh’s rise to power and duel with Cairne, as well as Anduin Wrynn’s involvement with the dwarven civil war, took center stage, while Thrall left leadership of the Horde to train as a shaman on the orcish home world of Draenor.

Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects, continues Thrall’s journey as a pivotal personality as the cataclysm and Deathwing ravage Azeroth. Thrall’s journey will begin with a task for Ysera that eventually becomes fraught with green dragons, nightmares, and a bleak vision from Ysera herself, the Hour of Twilight. We will know more in a week, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Tuesday Morning Post: Choosing sides edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. We’re a couple of weeks into [hide]patch 4.2[/hide], and by now, many of us should have made the ultimate choice. Who did you pick first in the battle for the Firelands? Was it the ancient, mysterious order of the Shadow Wardens, or was it the slightly less hippie than normal flying aces, the Druids of the Talon? I admit, it was a hard choice, but as much as I [hide]love[/hide] [hide]Thisalee Crow[/hide], I had to side with the Shadow Wardens first. They were amazing in Warcraft III, and I have sort of missed them. They remind me of what the night elves used to be. I have to admit, I was sort of hoping Maiev would magically show up to lead them, proud and powerful, with maybe the ocassional dig at Malfurion for how much of a loser his wife is. Alas, it is apparently not be. But I hoped.

Whichever choice you made, right now you have no choice but to wait out the usual Tuesday downtime. This week, it’s from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. PDT. While you wait, you can catch up on all the news from the past few days, including guides to some of the new patch 4.2 Firelands and Tol Barad bosses. Check it all out after the break.[hide]Continue reading Tuesday Morning Post: Choosing sides edition[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Realm Status[/hide], [hide]News items[/hide][hide]Tuesday Morning Post: Choosing sides edition[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 04:00:00 EST.
