Breakfast Topic: What’s that one quirky thing you just have to do?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

We all have at least one — one thing we do that everyone gives us a slightly weird look and a cocked eyebrow for doing. Well … all right, maybe a few more weird things than that. But there’s that one thing we do that just makes sense to us, and we have to defend ourselves for it every time someone finds us out.

For me? I hearth to Darnassus. Yes, before you ask, I do have a love affair with night elves; however, that’s not the reason. When I first started playing WoW (and [hide]Cutaia[/hide] can vouch for this), I always found myself around Darkshore. For a good year or so, I never really did any leveling; I stayed around level 15 and stuck around the Darkshore area. Being so close to Darnassus meant I was in the city all the time. I figured out where everything was, and I liked the atmosphere.

Now, I’m level 85. Sure, I teleport to Stormwind when it’s necessary, and I know where everything is now … but I still have my hearth set to Darnassus. I tell people now that it’s for my frame rate on my laptop, but it’s still more comfortable for me. You can bet with cooking and fishing dailies added in 4.1 that you’ll be seeing me in Darnassus quite a bit more.

What’s your weird WoW quirk that you actually have a reason for doing? No judgements here.

Опубликован рассказ о Бейне Кровавое Копыто

Компания Blizzard Entertainment опубликовала рассказ Стиви Никса «[hide]Как наши предки[/hide]» о предводителе тауренов Бейне Кровавое Копыто из MMORPG World of Warcraft.

Around Azeroth: Overlogging

[hide][/hide]
While cleaning out the Around Azeroth inbox, I stumbled around this screenshot, submitted anonymously during the days of Wrath. Remember how horribly overfarmed Sholazar Basin was? Remember how, when doing a circle around the exterior for Saronite Ore, you would always run into at least three other people in the same orbit? This is the inevitable result. Good thing that Uldum is already a desert wasteland, or it might meet the same fate.

The Queue: A year ago …

So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about the past on WoW Insider (and my time working here). Let’s take a practical trip down memory lane, looking at what was going on a year ago today, July 12, 2010:

We all were in the midst of the [hide]real names on the forums scandal[/hide], including the accidental leakage of the emails of [hide]everyone who complained to the ESRB[/hide]. There’s only been a few other posts in my time that have had more impact on such a large scale as the ones concerning that scandal.

Another round of [hide]Cataclysm beta invites[/hide] were due out soon.

Mike Gray looked at the [hide]engineering profession in Cataclysm[/hide].

The [hide]Cataclysm screenshot of the day[/hide] was of Gilneas (I think, maybe T.B.).

Ghostcrawler [hide]was still posting[/hide].

The Breakfast Topic asked [hide]what constituted canon in WoW lore[/hide].

On July 12, 2009 (two years ago):

Preminition got the [hide]first U.S. Alone in the Darkness achievement[/hide].

Allie talked about [hide]how to get your blog crashed by WoW.com[/hide] (our identity at the time).

On July 12, 2008 (three years ago):

Wowhead added [hide]some hunter features[/hide].

We published a [hide]strategy guide for Mother Shahraz[/hide].

Daniel Whitcomb asked if the [hide]World of Warcraft really is World of Diablo[/hide].

On July 12, 2007 (four years ago):

[hide]Patch 2.2 hit the PTRs[/hide].

Tigole had some [hide]comments on the original ZA[/hide].

New loot cards [hide]came out for WoW TCG[/hide].

[hide]MazzleUI’s was examined[/hide], but by a different Matt than today’s Mat.

On July 12, 2006 (five years ago):

The [hide]servers went down for emergency maintenance[/hide] …

… and [hide]two new realms sprung up[/hide]!

WoW Insider started [hide]our existence on November 23, 2005[/hide], so we weren’t around six years ago. Man… it’s been a long time.

Chris asked:

I know there are ways to determine ‘total time played’ on a character, but is there any means of finding out when a character was created?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: A year ago ..[/hide].Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: A year ago ..[/hide]. originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 11:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: Sands of Uldum

You gotta love a good collaboration. [hide]Sands of Uldum[/hide] is the combined effort of [hide]Sharm[/hide], [hide]Letomi[/hide], [hide]CraigthePatient[/hide], and [hide]Tyranno[/hide]. It’s a mixed-genre music video featuring a little bit of harmony, a little bit of melody, and a little bit of rap.

Sands of Uldum has a lot going on in both the music and video departments. The lyrics and music play with innuendo and allegory, while the video mirrors that intricacy. This video was especially interesting to me because it felt experimental and fresh; the team was trying something new and attempting to push outside the usual comfortable boundaries.

Your opinions of the movie will no doubt vary; I can see why it might not appeal to some readers. That being said, I salute the team for its effort and look forward to what future collaborations might bring.

Breakfast Topic: Did you accomplish your Fire Festival goals?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

The coming and going of the Midsummer Fire Festival was overshadowed by the arrival of [hide]patch 4.2[/hide] and the Firelands, but now all the assorted bonfires scattered far and wide have been extinguished, and the flaming torches have all come clattering to the ground. We’ve danced ’round poles and [hide]taken care of danger in Zangarmarsh[/hide]. Heck, the Ice Stone has melted so many times it’s hard to keep track! It was a time for celebration and a time for fun, but like all good holidays, it had to come to an end.

Did you get your hands on that new pet you wanted? Some sweet gear for strutting around town? Did you finished your holiday achievements? If you didn’t get what you were seeking, what held you back?

Have you ever wanted to write for WoW Insider? Your chance may be right around the corner. Watch for our next call for submissions, and be sure to sign up for [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider. The next byline you see here may be yours!

Two Bosses Enter: Announcing Season 2’s boss lineup

In [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide], WoW Insider’s series of fantasy death matches, the bosses of World of Warcraft face off in the squared circle. Your vote determines who wins and claims the season title.

Today we are ready to reveal our tournament bracks for Two Bosses Enter’s second Cataclysm season! I’ve sifted through last week’s reader requests and built this tournament brackets based on a few factors. Your feedback was absolutely taken into consideration, and most of this season’s competitors were chosen by you. However, some competitors were picked by myself and other WoW Insider staffers.

Highly elaborate encounters like Jin’do the Godbreaker or bosses with one-shot abilities such as Bloodlord Mandokir, while popular choices, were not included in this season because their mechanics would make the tournament extremely one-sided unless I added special circumstances and stipulations from week to week. In order to include them, Two Bosses Enter would be less let the fans figure out what would happen and more what arbitrary rules does Alex want us to play by this week? If that’s something people want, I can make it happen next time around, but I’m fairly sure the majority of readers would like things to stay as they’ve been all along.

There will be no voting this week, but I will be revealing this week’s brackets and I will explain what we will be doing differently this season, along with some commentary of what did and did not work last season.[hide]Continue reading Two Bosses Enter: Announcing Season 2’s boss lineup[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide][hide]Two Bosses Enter: Announcing Season 2’s boss lineup[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 11 Jul 2011 09:00:00 EST. Around Azeroth: Night elves can’t jump

[hide][/hide]

«Anyone prone to death from falls should choose to go with recruiting the Druids of the Talon first during the Molten Front quests,» writes [hide]Kerrowyn[/hide] of [hide]ExtendedCredit[/hide] on Azuremyst (US-A). «They will save your backside if you happen to be on one of those (CENSORED) crumbling rocks near Fireplume Peak. Or wander in to an inconveniently placed updraft, like my hunter.»

The Queue: Bubble bubble pop pop

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] will be your host today.

Oh boy, The Queue! Have I told you guys how much I love writing The Queue? When I’m not [hide]YouTubing[/hide] or [hide]twittering[/hide], some of my most wonderful memories are sitting at my computer and browsing through your questions and …

Ooooh, looks like [hide]someone[/hide] just put a link into Mumble …

Bubble bubble bubble pop. Happy Monday, ya’ll.

jamie9966 asked:

At the start of the Burning Crusade, blood elf paladins got their powers by bending the light to their will, through M’uru who they held captive at the time. Since they no longer have M’uru in captivity, where do they now get their power from?

In the beginning, M’uru was the source of the Blood Knights’ powers. It was thought to have been stolen, being ripped from the naaru forcibly. I was always a fan of the ruthless, almost sadistic way the blood elves bent the very light to their will because, well, at the time, it fit the race. After it was revealed that the naaru sort of sent M’uru, who full well knew what he was doing by letting the blood elves take some of his power to create the Blood Knights, that sadism sort of fell to the wayside.[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Bubble bubble pop pop[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Bubble bubble pop pop[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 11 Jul 2011 11:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: The Fruit Vendor

In The Burning Crusade, there was a definitive experience that bound all players together. No, not a raid, not PVP, not a quest. Both Horde and Alliance would come together in the solid knowledge that [hide]The Fruit Vendor[/hide] was an incredibly patient woman.

See, back when we all hung out in Shattrath, we could hear [hide]Cro Threadstrong[/hide] screaming at the fruit vendor all day, every day. Blizzard kept adding additional lines during patches, and the whole thing became a mild obsession among players.

Wowcrendor turned the entire scene into this machinima. If you’re new to the game, rest assured … this is an accurate portrayal of the script. This is what happened in Shattrath, right down to Cro calling Granny Smith a «he.» Great job, [hide]Wowcrendor[/hide]!
