The Queue: Waking flames

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. [hide]Alex Ziebart[/hide] will be your host today.

My [hide]plea for rain on Monday[/hide] actually worked. Who knew I held that kind of power? Except it’s still hot as heck, and I demand more. Give me your rain, people. All of it.

Marco asked:

The Flamewalkers in the Firelands resemble the naga quite a bit. Is there any natural link between the 2 races? Are they related in some way? Or did blizzard take the easy way and model them after the naga’s skeleton and design to save time?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Waking flames[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Waking flames[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 20 Jul 2011 11:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: Dragon Slayers

[hide]Dragon Slayers[/hide] was created by Erunno for the Slovene community. The video is an homage to the Slayers anime, in case you don’t recognize the style. English speakers can press the CC button on the YouTube player to see and read the subtitles.

The animation in this video blew me away. Not only are the graphics smooth and convincing, Erunno did an outstanding job adapting a traditional anime style to WoW art. This really is a beautiful video to watch, and my hat’s off to Erunno for his incredible skills.

Meet the Bloggers: Basil «Euripides» Berntsen

About the Bloggers introduces you to the people behind WoW Insider. You can find articles on more WI staffers in earlier [hide]About the Bloggers entries[/hide].

What do you do for WoW Insider?

I write [hide]Gold Capped[/hide]. I used to write Time is Money and Insider Trader as well, but then I decided to stop trying to categorize my thoughts and simply dump them all into Gold Capped and let my editors sort it out.

What’s your main?

I have exactly one level 85 character: [hide]my hunter[/hide]. I raid and PVP with him, as well as use him for my alchemy and blacksmithing businesses. I will continue to have one max-level character until all the jewelcrafting dailies my JC mule does dings him 85 without having set foot outside Stormwind.

I have way too much on my plate to actually take care of my alts. For one, I hate leveling. Once you’ve seen it once, doing it again doesn’t have enough reward to justify the time. Secondly, if I had more playtime to use, I’d use it to do more of what I already do. I could be doing 10-man extensions of my 25-man raid if I had another raid night per week, or I could do more than a rated BG now and then. Starting a second gear grind with another character isn’t something that’s on my radar.[hide]Continue reading Meet the Bloggers: Basil «Euripides» Berntsen[/hide]Filed under: [hide]About the Bloggers[/hide][hide]Meet the Bloggers: Basil «Euripides» Berntsen[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 20 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. Shifting Perspectives: Developer Q&A touches on resto druid issues

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide], [hide]bear[/hide], [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. This week, we turn our attention the most recent [hide]developer Q&A[/hide] … and we all know what happened the [hide]last time we did that[/hide].

I spent the weekend being a trifle distracted (and then heartbroken) by the Women’s World Cup, but at least we can [hide]feel good about the winner[/hide]. Oh, and for all those of you who utilize musk deer glands in your health regimen, please remember to [hide]check them for steroids[/hide], in much the same fashion that one would check flour for boll weevils and rice grains for moths in one’s pantry. This has been a public service announcement by your friendly local World of Warcraft blog, which takes an interest in this matter because a commenter once accused it of fomenting unrest in North Korea.

What the hell is this column supposed to be about? Oh, right. Anyway, the final [hide]developer Q&A[/hide] was published this past Friday, and within it were a few nuggets of interest to restoration druids. We didn’t get any questions that specifically dealt with our spec, so I am not required to Hulk out over the [hide]lack of answers[/hide] that Blizzard has traditionally provided to such questions, so let’s spend today being happy and relatively sane.[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: Developer Q&A touches on resto druid issues[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: Developer Q&A touches on resto druid issues[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 20 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST. What’s happening in the Whispering Forest?

Every now and then, an Easter Egg is found in game. Blizzard loves its pop culture references, secret nooks and crannies, and everything in between. Recently, this popped up: a secret grove, hidden in the Whispering Forest of Western Tirisfal.

While it’s unknown when they spawn (I’ve heard every six hours or so, but I’m not sure), a troupe of faerie dragons slowly flies to this mushroom ring and begins to sing.

Tendrils of golden light flow and meet in the center of the circle, while ethereal music notes float all around. A beautiful little piece of music accompanies all of this, lasting about two and a half minutes. The infected animals of the Whispering Forest even come around to witness the performance. After they’re done, the dragons leave and despawn.[hide]Continue reading What’s happening in the Whispering Forest[/hide]?Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide][hide]What’s happening in the Whispering Forest[/hide]? originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. WoW Archivist: Patch 1.7, Rise of the Blood God

The [hide]WoW Archivist[/hide] explores the secrets of World of Warcraft’s past. What did the game look like years ago? Who is etched into WoW’s history? What secrets does the game still hold?

As we go through the patches of classic World of Warcraft, you’ve seen all along that Cataclysm is essentially a sequel to the original game. Everything in Cataclysm ties into things that began all those years ago. The Twilight’s Hammer, Ragnaros and the other elemental lords, Nefarian and Onyxia … all of those things hearken back to the Azeroth of 2004 and 2005. It isn’t just the main plot of this expansion that ties back into the original game either — oh, no. The little side stories we experience and investigate tie back into the original game, too.

Today, we’re looking at patch 1.7 from September 2005. It is the patch that introduced us to Zul’Gurub and the Blood God Hakkar, both of which made their [hide]return just months ago[/hide].

In addition, patch 1.7 includes:

Arathi Basin

Stranglethorn Vale’s fishing event

Implementation of the dressing room

Debuff limit raised from eight to 16

Let’s explore, hm?[hide]Continue reading WoW Archivist: Patch 1.7, Rise of the Blood God[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Archivist[/hide][hide]WoW Archivist: Patch 1.7, Rise of the Blood God[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST. Blood Sport: Finding your PVP playstyle in arena

Want to crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women? [hide]C. Christian Moore[/hide], multiple rank 1 [hide]Gladiator[/hide], examines the latest arena strategy, trends, compositions and more in [hide]Blood Sport[/hide].

I’ve found one of the most common excuses for not having an arena team is conflicting playstyles with past teammates. While often times these excuses are not really the problem (far too many arena players are self-centered and unreceptive to criticism), playstyle differences can be a factor in not meshing well with certain players.

I’d like to provide you with a few common playstyle differences, my take on which side of the spectrum is generally more popular, which side is generally better, and what I tend toward.[hide]Continue reading Blood Sport: Finding your PVP playstyle in arena[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]PvP[/hide], [hide]Blood Sport (Arena PvP)[/hide][hide]Blood Sport: Finding your PVP playstyle in arena[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 16:00:00 EST. Totem Talk: Restoration shaman healing for Alysrazor and Majordomo Staghelm

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Totem Talk[/hide] for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide] and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. Want to be a sultan of swing healing? A champion of Chain Heal? Totem Talk: Restoration, brought to you by Joe Perez (otherwise known as Lodur from [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and co-host of the [hide]Raid Warning[/hide] podcast), shows you how.

You’ve bested [hide]Beth’tilac and ruined Ryolith[/hide]. You’ve shot down [hide]Shannox and become the bane of Baleroc[/hide]. You’ve been making your way through the Firelands, killing bosses, collecting epic gear and carving a path to the final encounter.

Two more bosses stand in your way: one, an oversized legendary firebird who used to fight for the dreaming dragonflight, the other, a traitor to all of Azeroth, driven mad by the shattering of the nightmare and the realization that he could not bring his lost son back to life. It is now up to you to douse the flames of the bird and keep the cat occupied with a ball of yarn.[hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: Restoration shaman healing for Alysrazor and Majordomo Staghelm[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: Restoration shaman healing for Alysrazor and Majordomo Staghelm[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 17:00:00 EST. Lichborne: Buy your death knight some patch 4.2 valor gear

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Lichborne[/hide] for [hide]blood[/hide], [hide]frost[/hide], and [hide]unholy[/hide] death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let’s show the other classes how a hero class gets things done.

Now that [hide]patch 4.2[/hide] has been out a few weeks, if you’ve been faithfully raiding or queuing up for your random dungeons, you should have a pretty good chunk of valor points ready for use. That means it’s time to start thinking seriously about what you should buy. This week, we’ll be taking a look at the new valor point gear from patch 4.2 and figuring out what each brings to the table for you.[hide]Continue reading Lichborne: Buy your death knight some patch 4.2 valor gear[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Death Knight[/hide], [hide](Death Knight) Lichborne[/hide][hide]Lichborne: Buy your death knight some patch 4.2 valor gear[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST.
