Gold Capped: Getting rich off the real-money auction house?

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] and Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Capitalism is the best, and communism is for dirty, Soviet-sympathizing hippies. If you disagree, [hide]email Fox[/hide] or twitter him [hide]@foxvanallen[/hide] so you can be added to the CIA’s «list.»

When I first picked up playing the auction house game as a hobby, it was pretty low stakes. After all, I was playing with fake money, amassing a largely non-negotiable fortune that I didn’t know what to do with. One million gold — what was it good for? I couldn’t use it to buy a new car; I couldn’t use it to pay my rent. Heck, I couldn’t even use it to pay for my WoW subscription. It was a majestic fortune usable only in a world that didn’t exist, forever trapped behind the computer screen.

One week ago today, Blizzard dropped a bombshell: Diablo 3 would contain a [hide]real-money auction house[/hide]. Need a new weapon to give you a little bit of an extra edge? Fork over $4.99. Need money for lunch next week? Log on, and sell a portion of your in-game fortune for real-life cash.

Of course, that’s just for the new Diablo 3 game. But you can’t help but start thinking … what if? What if Blizzard started to allow real-money transactions in WoW? Could it? Would it? And if it did, could we actually use this to make some serious, significant real-life money?[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Getting rich off the real-money auction house[/hide]?[hide]Gold Capped: Getting rich off the real-money auction house[/hide]? originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 16:00:00 EST. Blood Pact: What to do once you hit level 85

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

A few months ago when I first took over writing Blood Pact, one of the first things that I wrote was a leveling guide for new warlocks. While the vast majority of what was written there still holds true today (and I certainly am not about to rewrite history), I’ve realized that the scheme of how to level, or at least how to proceed once you first reach the level cap, is different from what it was then. As an MMO, WoW is constantly changing. There are times when these changes alter the way in which we do things.

Old news as it might be by now, 4.2 had a drastic impact on more than you think at first glance. This week, we’ll be going into detail on those changes, looking at the new way of handling your first time at the level cap. It’s a brand new world out there; get ready to dive in head first.[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: What to do once you hit level 85[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: What to do once you hit level 85[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 17:00:00 EST. The Daily Quest: Panda-monium

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

Pandaren. Adorable, absurd, or the subject of the [hide]next expansion[/hide]? Talk about the supposed Mists of Pandaria expansion has been split between people who think pandaren would be amazing and people who are highly offended at the prospect of talking pandas infiltrating their highly serious game with the talking cows, doggy people, and little green men. Personally, I think it’s an entertaining prospect with a lot of potential. But I do love me some pandaren, so I’m biased, probably.

As for the rest of the blogsphere … well, how about we take a look at some links and see what they have to say?

[hide]Blessing of Kings[/hide] is cautiously optimistic about the whole idea of a [hide]pandaren expansion[/hide].

[hide]Player vs. Developer[/hide] ponders the potential of [hide]Pandaria[/hide].

[hide]The Dead Good Tanking Guide[/hide] is intrigued by the prospect of Pandaria, and the author has his own thoughts regarding what the [hide]expansion could contain[/hide].

[hide]MMO Melting Pot[/hide] goes over what they know — which is absolutely nothing, much like the rest of us, so it’s up to some fun speculation and [hide]outright guesswork[/hide]!

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Blizzard запретила HTML-датамайнинг своих сайтов

Компания Blizzard Entertainment [hide]запретила[/hide] HTML-датамайнинг сайта us.battle.net/wow и любых других региональных сайтов MMORPG World of Warcraft.

MMORPG World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, [hide]сообщил[/hide] представитель компании на американских официальных форумах игры.

Tuesday Morning Post: Panda skeptics edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. By now, I’m sure most of you know the big news of the week: Blizzard’s registered [hide]Mists of Pandaria[/hide] as a trademark related to computer games. Could this be the title of our next expansion? Can we all expect to be rolling monks or deciding whether to make our new panda on the Alliance or Horde side within the next year or two?

It’s tough to say for sure. Faked leaks aside, I’m on a wait and see approach. As it is, I don’t think this guarantees anything. It could be for something completely different, or it could be a «just in case» thing. I’ve seen enough [hide]trademarked Harry Potter titles[/hide] that never saw the light of day not to be wary. Then again, it could just be my own bias creeping in. I’m still hoping for an expansion that’s pure Alliance vs. Horde. But hey, if nothing else, at least we got that sweet panda sketch from [hide]Anne[/hide].

So we definitely have more [hide]Mists of Pandaria speculation[/hide] than you can shake a stick at, but there’s plenty of other news to peruse as well, such as [hide]the debut of patch 4.2.0a[/hide]. [hide]Maintenance today[/hide] will be the usual 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. PDT, so you should have time to browse. Check it all out after the break.[hide]Continue reading Tuesday Morning Post: Panda skeptics edition[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Realm Status[/hide], [hide]News items[/hide][hide]Tuesday Morning Post: Panda skeptics edition[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 07:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: How do you deal with self-entitled puggers?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

I pull hard and fast, so I don’t want to hear about your drinking problems. Just keep up.

No, we’re not doing that boss.

If you go in there, I’m not healing you.

Dude, I’m pulling more DPS than the other two put together, and I’m going for the achievement whether you like it or not.

Do any of those sound familiar? It’s that one player in the PUG who thinks he’s the star of the show and that everyone else is there to bow down to his demands. More often than not, this ends up being a tank, although anyone who thinks the group can’t get along without them is prone to this sort of behavior. The tank thinks that DPS won’t dare to kick him because of their long queue times (while they get instant queues). The healer refuses to heal anyone that he personally doesn’t seem to like. DPSers can fall into this behavior as well, but this doesn’t seem to be nearly as commonplace.

The same thing crops up when you down a boss, and suddenly someone just drops group. They didn’t get their drop; therefore, they just leave the rest of you hanging. Has this happened to you? If not, consider yourself lucky (and brace for when it does). Or perhaps you’ve done it to groups you’ve been in; if so, remember, this is a group game, and those are four other people want their stuff just as much as you want yours. Be considerate. No single member of a PUG is irreplaceable, and the vote kick button is there for a reason.

How do you generally deal with self-entitled puggers?
