Totem Talk: Revisiting restoration’s optional talents

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Totem Talk[/hide] for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide] and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. Want to be a sultan of swing healing? A champion of Chain Heal? Totem Talk: Restoration, brought to you by Joe Perez (otherwise known as Lodur from [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and co-host of the [hide]For the Lore[/hide] and [hide]Raid Warning[/hide] podcasts), shows you how.

The [hide]ask a restoration shaman[/hide] article last week is something I’d like to start doing a little more regularly. You guys provided some awesome questions and offered amazing feedback. Seeing readers answering questions as much as asking them makes me proud to be a member of the shaman community!

Today’s post comes as a request through last week’s call for questions. When our talent trees were revamped to the current model, one of the goals was to make some optional but fun talents. Some of the talents have proven to be insanely useful and almost mandatory, while others seem completely out of place. Today we’re going to talk about some of restoration’s «optional» talents. Oh, and if you have anything you want covered in a [hide]Totem Talk[/hide] post, feel free to [hide]email me[/hide]![hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: Revisiting restoration’s optional talents[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: Revisiting restoration’s optional talents[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 09 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST. Race to World First documentary releasing soon

[hide]Looking for Group Productions[/hide] has been hard at work on its documentary Race to World First for a good long while now, capturing many top-tier World of Warcraft guilds’ attempts at claiming coveted world firsts in the raiding game as well as following Blood Legion’s race to a top spot. Set to release in a few weeks, Race to World First looks like it’s going to be an introspective look at the time and energy that many of these guilds put into the raiding game, as well as an examination of the multicultural nature of the game and the general excitement that goes along with MMO accomplishments.

Each week, Race to World First looks at clips from players in guilds that have been fighting for or actually achieved world firsts. Looking back a bit, this clip with [hide]Narilka of Ensidia[/hide] chronicles her time spent with the guild downing [hide]Kil’jaeden[/hide] at the end of The Burning Crusade when she was still just 16 years old.

We loved having the Race to World First production team at the [hide]WoW Insider reader meetup[/hide] at BlizzCon in 2010 — they were some of the nicest guys and had a blast talking to real players and real fans. I am excited to see this documentary. Check out the trailer — you might even see some familiar faces!

Breakfast Topic: Design your own level 90 spell or ability

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

In every expansion, all the classes get a few new abilities. Surely next year, the level cap will be 90 or higher, so there are more opportunities for your favorite class to become overpowered! What idea would you like to see implemented as a new ability for your class of choice?

Try and keep it realistic, please. I’m sure Blizzard won’t give rogues an insta-kill ability that is only usable with 5 combo points — at least, I hope not — but maybe it could add a new move that would have a 5% chance per combo point at one-shotting enemies more than 5 levels below you. I don’t really play a rogue, so I’m sure that idea sounds outrageous to all you sneaky stealthers out there — but that is why I am asking your opinion!

I know my holy paladin would love an AOE heal that isn’t on a cooldown or has limited resources. Maybe a spell that drops a huge surge of healing light on a location, similar to the druid’s Hurricane spell, but only one tick of healing that is spammable. Doesn’t sound too overpowered to me … but I might be biased.

So share up! Let us know your ideas in the comments, and who knows? Maybe Blizzard will read it and be inspired enough to implement.

Totem Talk: How to level your elemental shaman

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Totem Talk for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide], and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. [hide]Josh Myers[/hide] once only tackled the hard questions about enhancement but has recently expanded his sphere of responsibility to all shaman DPS specs. (And no, two-handed enhancement is still never coming back.)

With the introduction of Blizzard’s new [hide]free trial system[/hide], the number of low-level characters playing World of Warcraft has drastically risen. Whether it is established players creating alternate characters on new accounts, past players trying to decide if they want to return to the game, or persons who have never played WoW (or any video game!) before, Blizzard has made it both easy and appealing to start a new character.

At WoW Insider, we’re aware of [hide]how scary it can be[/hide] to start a character in the World of Warcraft. With tons of abilities, four equipment types, 12 races, and 10 classes with three talent trees each, WoW can be a confusing and intimidating game to start out. Fortunately, I’m going to help by alleviating some of the weight on your shoulders and help make your decision for you: roll a tauren elemental shaman. You’ll look awesome, and then you can follow this handy elemental shaman leveling guide! It’s a win/win situation.[hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: How to level your elemental shaman[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide], [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: How to level your elemental shaman[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 14:00:00 EST. Drama Mamas: How to rein in a rules lawyer

[hide]Drama Mamas[/hide] Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas — and just as we don’t want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

I have a confession to make: I’ve always loved The Carpenters. This has nothing to do with this week’s letter.

Dear Drama Mamas,

My fiancee and I run a small guild comprised of real-life friends. Though tiny and very casual, we’ve accomplished quite a bit, and personally knowing each other we are very open to assist one another, offer suggestions and take critiques. We play together almost every night, and meet several times a week to RP, play war games and TCGs usually in my fiancee and I’s apartment. This has been the routine for about 5-6 years now. As great as this is, we have a friend that «sucks» the fun out of not only in our games but WoW.[hide]Continue reading Drama Mamas: How to rein in a rules lawyer[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]Drama Mamas[/hide][hide]Drama Mamas: How to rein in a rules lawyer[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 08 Aug 2011 15:00:00 EST. Patch 4.2.0a has hit the live servers today, and we’ve got all the (short) notes for you below. This wasn’t entirely unexpected, as Blizzard has hinted over the past week that there’d be a small patch to fix some issues.

And before people ask, there’s no new information on patch 4.3 or any other content patches. These are mainly bug fixes that needed a client update.

Enjoy!
