Blood Pact: How to build a better warlock UI

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

As the most recent raid on the block and still relatively new, Firelands is a rather popular pastime these days. Who can blame players, either? The place is stunning, the encounters are actually fun and engaging, and it’s a blast to run. As a DPSer, a part of that joy is being able to deal the highest amount of damage that you possibly can. It also involves keeping yourself alive. More than all that, you want to look good while doing it.

This week, we’ll explore some of the common addons that you can utilize as a warlock in order to maximize both your damage potential and your survivability. While a number of people work with the standard Blizzard UI, there are just some things that it isn’t capable of doing (nor does it look nearly as good doing them). Ready to go all out?[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: How to build a better warlock UI[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: How to build a better warlock UI[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 16:00:00 EST. The Daily Quest: Have you ever wondered …?

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

I have to say, one of my favorite bugs of all time was the one where players could get stuck in Polymorph form yet still retain control of their characters. The above video is a good example of the bug, framing it around the question, «What would you do if your best friend turned into a sheep?» I’m thinking running around a busy street repeatedly hitting Fan of Knives would be entertaining (not to mention unsettling to the general public).

Today, we’ve got a few posts from around the blogosphere that also question and answer a variety of topics.

[hide]A Sunnier Bear[/hide] wonders whether or not other people mention WoW as a hobby to friends or acquaintances who [hide]don’t play[/hide].

[hide]Manalicious[/hide] has figured out how Real ID Grouping, even as a premium feature, is going to save both [hide]time and money[/hide].

[hide]Dwarven Battle Medic[/hide] goes over the ins and outs of [hide]tracking Illuminated Healing[/hide] for holy paladins (in case you were wondering how).

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Spiritual Guidance: Leveling a healing priest

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Spiritual Guidance[/hide] for [hide]discipline[/hide], [hide]holy[/hide] and [hide]shadow[/hide] priests. [hide]Dawn Moore[/hide] isn’t here this week, and [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] is just being his usual shadowy stuff. Instead, you’re stuck with [hide]Matt «Matticus» Low[/hide] of [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and [hide]Plus Heal[/hide]!

Hey guys, it’s Matt again!

Healing priests are incredibly fun to play when leveling up. Players who have spent most of their time playing DPS classes before trying a healer usually get confused when they try their hand at healing. In my experience, I’ve found that players who were new to the game are quicker at familiarizing themselves with healing than players who’ve switched roles. I’m not sure if that’s because of the players I work with or if it happens to just be an anomaly.

Creating a new priest healer means that healing through the Dungeon Finder is going to be one of the ways up through the levels for you. There’ll be questing out in the world where you’ll be blowing stuff up as well, so this week’s post will offer a few guidelines for handling dungeons and taking out the various denizens you’ll encounter in Azeroth.[hide]Continue reading Spiritual Guidance: Leveling a healing priest[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide](Priest) Spiritual Guidance[/hide][hide]Spiritual Guidance: Leveling a healing priest[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 19:00:00 EST. New BlizzCon site now live

The new [hide]BlizzCon[/hide] community site is [hide]now up and running[/hide]. If, like me, you won’t get to go this year, then you can at least use the site to keep track of all the fun you won’t be having. Since the site just launched, it’s not swollen up with treasures I won’t be getting to experience like I expect it will be soon, but for now, I can stifle my resentment and point out that the [hide]Global Battle.net invitational[/hide] will be held at BlizzCon this year.

Looks fun. I’ll be sitting around here eating candy. I assume I will, anyway. With the news of the [hide]Diablo 3 beta[/hide] being announced this Aug. 1, it’s a safe bet y’all will be playing it at BlizzCon. I will be crying.

Shifting Perspectives: Feral cat strats for the Firelands, part 1

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide] , [hide]bear[/hide] , [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. Welcome to our feral cat edition, brought to you by Chase Hasbrouck, aka Alaron of [hide]The Fluid Druid[/hide] blog. Let the face clawing begin!

All of us want [hide]fire kitty staff[/hide], but there are a few obstacles in the way … mounds of trash and five or so bosses. For my next few columns, I’ll take a look at feral DPS strategies that will get you through mostly unscorched.

The first thing you’ll have to deal with is trash. There’s a nice [hide]Firelands trash guide[/hide] right here on WoW Insider, but let’s start this week’s study with a brief overview.[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: Feral cat strats for the Firelands, part 1[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: Feral cat strats for the Firelands, part 1[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 21:00:00 EST. The Queue: When I am through with you …

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

… there won’t be [hide]anything[/hide] left.

Trefpoid asked:

Has anybody else noticed that female Naga have been given shirts all of a sudden? Why has this happened? Did someone find that female naga where to provocative going around topless or is Blizzard trying out something else? a friend suggested maybe they are trying to see how they look with armour, maybe as a future playable race, but Blizzard has already stated that playable races need to have legs.. so what has happened here? It’s really weird to see all these nagas with chinese styled clothings all of a sudden and with no explanation.

It does seem to be an intended change, though bear in mind that naga have been able to wear armor since The Burning Crusade. It could be that there’s something being planned for the naga, or at least there’s been a movement to humanize them (or elfize them, as it were). As of right now, though, if you want playable naga, the closest you’ll probably get is the [hide]WoW TCG[/hide]’s upcoming Throne of the Tides expansion.[hide]Continue reading The Queue: When I am through with you ..[/hide].Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: When I am through with you ..[/hide]. originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 24 Jul 2011 12:00:00 EST. All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for draenei roleplayers

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. In World of Warcraft, that player is you! Each week, [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] brings you [hide]All the World’s a Stage[/hide] with helpful hints, tips and tricks on the art of roleplay in WoW.

Of all the Alliance races you could theoretically play, the draenei have to be the least developed in terms of lore. This is a constant point of contention amongst those who love the draenei as a race and wish to see them further developed (like me!). However, the lack of draenei lore at this point shouldn’t be looked at in a negative light. Most of the time, when something is left deliberately vague, it’s because it will be expanded upon later in some fashion or another — so hopefully, we’ll see more about the draenei soon. Like, say … in the next expansion or two.

In the meantime, there’s still a lot out there for draenei to think about. I know, I know — how exactly do you come up with plot points for a race that doesn’t have much at all in the way of lore, a race that hasn’t really been developed since it was first introduced? What can you possibly make out of all of that? How do you tie that into anything that’s going on currently and have it be at all meaningful?[hide]Continue reading All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for draenei roleplayers[/hide]Filed under: [hide]All the World’s a Stage (Roleplaying)[/hide][hide]All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for draenei roleplayers[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 24 Jul 2011 16:00:00 EST. The Light and How to Swing It: Healing against Shannox and Beth’tilac

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]The Light and How to Swing It[/hide] for [hide]holy[/hide], [hide]protection[/hide] and [hide]retribution[/hide] paladins. Every Sunday, [hide]Chase Christian[/hide] invites you to discuss the finer side of the paladin class: the holy specialization. Feel free to [hide]email me[/hide] with any questions you want answered, like why paladins are so awesome.

With only seven bosses to claim, Firelands is one of the [hide]smallest raid tiers[/hide] we’ve seen over the past couple of years. I’ve found that the raid can seem much larger than it actually is due to the massive size of the zone. We’re able to explore the terrain and advance in any direction that we please. The first five bosses can be killed in any order, and we fight each on unique terrain. There’s also a plethora of interesting trash mobs and mini-events along the way.

Two of the easiest bosses in Firelands are [hide]Shannox[/hide] and [hide]Beth’tilac[/hide]. If you’re just starting in Firelands, it’s highly likely that you raid will be facing one of these two bosses first. The encounters are very different for healers, at least until their final phases. You’ll want to spend most of your time conserving as much mana as possible, as healing against these bosses gets more difficult as the fights progress. Your ability to keep the raid alive will buy your DPS the time they need to finish the job.[hide]Continue reading The Light and How to Swing It: Healing against Shannox and Beth’tilac[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Paladin[/hide], [hide](Paladin) The Light and How to Swing It[/hide][hide]The Light and How to Swing It: Healing against Shannox and Beth’tilac[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 24 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST. Know Your Lore: Lore 101 — How to fold a Tinfoil Hat

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You’re playing the game, you’re fighting the bosses, you know the how — but do you know the why? Each week, [hide]Matthew Rossi [/hide]and [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] make sure you [hide]Know Your Lore[/hide] by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft.

Out of all of the lore articles I’ve written so far for WoW Insider, none seem to garner quite as much commentary as the tinfoil hat series. Whether I’m babbling on about [hide]Elune being a naaru[/hide], the Lich King being a [hide]walking plane of existence[/hide], or the possibility that Azeroth is just [hide]a giant trap for Sargeras[/hide], coming up with theories and tossing them at you guys is an exercise in creative thinking.

Rather than go on with another crazy theory, this week I decided to go a different direction entirely. There are a few tricks to trying to predict what’s going to happen with a book or an ongoing story like Warcraft. It’s not just about coming up with wild ideas; they have to actually be plausible ideas. And it’s not about what you think should happen; it’s about trying to define what may come to pass. Today, we’re going to take a look at the nuts and bolts of what defines a story, what makes up a tinfoil hat theory, and how to apply it not just to Warcraft but to anything you happen to be reading.[hide]Continue reading Know Your Lore: Lore 101 — How to fold a Tinfoil Hat[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Lore[/hide], [hide]Know your Lore[/hide][hide]Know Your Lore: Lore 101 — How to fold a Tinfoil Hat[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 24 Jul 2011 20:00:00 EST.
