Drama Mamas: My guildie is a registered sex offender

[hide]Drama Mamas[/hide] Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas — and just as we don’t want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

Please, someone send us something lighthearted for next week! Use the tips in the last part of Robin’s response in our [hide]behind-the-scenes column[/hide].

Hello Mamas,

I have a real dilemma for you. I have been in my guild since the beginning of WotLK. Our little close-knit group of adventurers consists of real-life friends and coworkers plus a few WoW-only friends as well. Last week guild member X posted their phone number on the private guild forums. A lot of us have each others’ digits, that’s not unusual … however, guild member Y decided to run the number through Google to get the geographic location on the area code, and discovered guild member X on an official sexual predator/offender list. This was immediately brought up to the guild leader, who first confirmed that guild member X was indeed the person on the list by comparing last names and location, then dismissed the issue by saying «[WoW is] just a game.» That response prompted some members to /gquit for moral and ethical reasons.[hide]Continue reading Drama Mamas: My guildie is a registered sex offender[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]Guilds[/hide], [hide]Drama Mamas[/hide][hide]Drama Mamas: My guildie is a registered sex offender[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 15 Aug 2011 13:00:00 EST. Shifting Perspectives: Feral cat raiding strats for the Firelands, part 3

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide] , [hide]bear[/hide] , [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. Welcome to our feral cat edition, brought to you by Chase Hasbrouck, aka Alaron of [hide]The Fluid Druid[/hide] blog. Let the face clawing begin!

In the last column, we [hide]rolled over Rhyolith and beat down Baleroc[/hide]. Before that, we [hide]shredded Shannox and went berserk on Beth’tilac[/hide]. There are only two more bosses before the big event in the Firelands: the flame phoenix Alysrazor and the elf man everybody loves to hate, Staghelm.

More importantly, mowing down these two bosses gives you chance for the staff that turns you into the fire kitty we always were in our hearts. So let’s get to face shredding.[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: Feral cat raiding strats for the Firelands, part 3[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: Feral cat raiding strats for the Firelands, part 3[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 15 Aug 2011 14:00:00 EST. The Daily Quest: Dark Lady watch over you

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

My first Horde character was a Forsaken — a priest, chosen specifically because I wanted to play an overpowered, easy class, and Forsaken shadow priests were the flavor of the month. But I was utterly enchanted by my little undead priest, her golden glowing eyes peering around when idle, the way she’d swing a staff over her head like she was smacking a rug with a broom, and how she was all knees when she jumped. I still play her, although she has yet to make the trek to 85. But the Forsaken as a whole confuse me. Should I feel bad for these former living residents of Lordaeron, cursed to live on after death and unable to reconnect with their living friends and family? Or should I feel uneasy and a little ill due to Sylvanas’ machinations and obvious plotting to use the plague against the living? I don’t know.

I do know that we’ve got two really interesting posts regarding the Forsaken today, as well as a suggestion for a new dungeon that I can really get behind.

[hide]Cynwise’s Field Notes[/hide] takes an in-depth look at the Forsaken leveling experience [hide]from vanilla to Cataclysm[/hide].

[hide]Priest With A Cause[/hide] tells us about her experiences with Forsaken leveling and how [hide]Sylvanas surprised her[/hide].

[hide]Orcish Army Knife[/hide] has an excellent suggestion for a new dungeon in an area that is so, so overdue for a complete rehaul: [hide]Stromgarde[/hide].

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Blood Pact: Patch 4.2 Warlock Q&A

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

If any of you are readers of [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide], then you may have noticed that two weeks ago, I did a little number asking people to [hide]tweet in some questions[/hide] about balance druids that they would like to have answered. From that, I got a good deal of feedback from Blood Pact readers that they would like to see their own version done for warlocks. Not one to disappoint, I am pleased to present the first article straight from the warlock mailbag (or Twitter feed, as it were). I have to say, you warlocks are certainly a tougher bunch than the druids are when it comes to asking questions; a number of them were tough! I’ll be doing my best to answer as many as I can as well as I can, but I won’t be able to hit them all.

Don’t get discouraged, though! If you don’t see your answer this week, I’ve certainly kept all of them in mind for future articles that can address some of the hard-hitting ones I got. Remember as well that you can always ask any question you’d like in the comments, [hide]via email[/hide], or through [hide]Twitter[/hide], and I’ll do my best to get back to you as quickly as I can! Let’s get this party started.[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: Patch 4.2 Warlock Q&A[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: Patch 4.2 Warlock Q&A[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 15 Aug 2011 16:00:00 EST. WRUP: Pandaren vs. Ethereals

Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, «What are you playing this week?» — otherwise known as [hide]WRUP[/hide]. Join us to see what we’re up to in and out of game, and catch us in the comments to let us know what you’re playing, too!

On Thursday, Blizzard [hide]uploaded a curious new picture to its Facebook page[/hide]. It’s called «glimpses,» and it shows three ethereals in a building that looks identical to Cordell’s Enchanting in Stormwind. But a glimpse of what? Patch 4.3? The next expansion?

The picture set off a flurry of speculation. One [hide]intrepid soul[/hide] decided to treat the names as anagrams, converting Vaultkeeper Razhid to «hide a true leak,» with «remaining letters ZPRV.» I tried playing around with the letters myself, and all I can seem to make out of it is «Bill is The Mole.» What do you think that means?

Of course, a lot of people out there are wondering whether or not ethereals will play a major part in the next expansion. So, in addition to the «What aRe yoU Playing» question, this week, we asked our columnists a very simple follow-up question:

Arcane Brilliance: Addons your mage should probably be using

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Arcane Brilliance[/hide] for [hide]arcane[/hide], [hide]fire[/hide] and [hide]frost[/hide] mages. This week, we’ll be talking about ways we can make something that is already awesome (being a mage) even better. It’s like when you take heaping bowl of [hide]Joss Whedon[/hide] and add in a liberal sprinkling of [hide]Nathan Fillion[/hide]. Yummy.

I know, I know. We already get to fling massive, flaming boulders at warlock faces. Also, we wiggle our fingers and delicious cake spontaneously appears. Being a mage is already as close to nirvana as mortals can hope to aspire to. How can that experience be improved?

The answer is simple: more warlock-killing. And more cake! Also?

Addons.

They come in all shapes and sizes, and your particular load-out may differ greatly from those of other mages you know. I’m not here to tell you you’re wrong. I am here, though, to spotlight a few of those addons that have improved my experience the most of late. Join me, won’t you? I promise both brevity and wit. Mostly brevity. Cake and warlocks are available in the foyer. Only one is edible, but both are cooked to perfection.[hide]Continue reading Arcane Brilliance: Addons your mage should probably be using[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Mage[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide](Mage) Arcane Brilliance[/hide][hide]Arcane Brilliance: Addons your mage should probably be using[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sat, 13 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST. Totem Talk: Crit vs. mastery for enhancement shaman

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Totem Talk for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide], and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. [hide]Josh Myers[/hide] once only tackled the hard questions about enhancement but has recently expanded his sphere of responsibility to all shaman DPS specs. (And no, two-handed enhancement is still never coming back.)

I spend a lot of time talking about gear. In the past, I’ve made [hide]loot lists[/hide] for upcoming content, wrote a [hide]guide to enhance stats[/hide] in Cataclysm, and devoted an entire post to talking about why haste is such a terrible, [hide]terrible stat for us[/hide]. Gear is our only physical (as much as pixels on a screen can be physical) reminder of the boss we killed, and it’s the only way for our characters to grow once they meet max level.

In my talks about gear, I’ve paid a lot of attention to how horrible haste is. Unfortunately, while I’ve mentioned in brief tidbits that mastery is our best secondary stat, the hot fudge on the ice cream sundae of our gearing, I’ve gone into little detail on why it’s so good. Even worse, I’ve totally neglected discussion critical hit rating and why it isn’t as good. To fully understand enhancement gearing, this is stuff you need to know.[hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: Crit vs. mastery for enhancement shaman[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]Raiding[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide], [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: Crit vs. mastery for enhancement shaman[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sat, 13 Aug 2011 20:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: Mobile guild chat — freedom or leash?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

Blizzard recently released an update for the Mobile Armory that lets you chat with your guild from your iPhone or Android. Do you see this as an opportunity for more freedom for you to play (or not play), or are you afraid it will be more of a leash for people trying to pull you in when you’d rather not be playing WoW?

While sitting out of a raid, mobile guild chat can provide you with the opportunity to log off, walk away from the computer, and do something else, but still be connected and available if your raid group needs you. Does the idea of doing things around the house but still being available when that heroic group forms excite you? Would you like to be able to handle other projects or chores while waiting to see if anyone in your guild wants to run a heroic?

Or instead, are you afraid that your guild will require you to be available more often than you’d like? If you sit out from a raid, would you rather log off and walk away from the game for the night? Does the thought of being interrupted from your Portal 2 game to hop back on and fill in irk you? Do you have visions of being pestered to tank when you just want to sit down and play Magika?

What do you think? Are you excited to be available as much as possible, or do you prefer to have your WoW time be separate from your time away from WoW?

Around Azeroth: Sadistic sunflower smiles at suffering!

[hide][/hide]
The [hide]Singing Sunflower[/hide] has always seemed like the most benign of pets. But when you get down to it, a flower that smiles all the time is … well … a little unnerving. «My Singing Sunflower wanted to get into pictures I was taking of the Karazhan Crypts, here in the room of the [hide]upside-down sinners[/hide],» writes [hide]Wassa[/hide] of [hide]Instinct[/hide] on Wyrmrest Accord (US-H). «Does she lighten up the mood with her cheery smile or just make the picture more creepy? I’ll let you decide.»
