The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Firelands non-heroic raid gear

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]The Care and Feeding of Warriors[/hide], the column dedicated to [hide]arms[/hide], [hide]fury[/hide] and [hide]protection warriors[/hide]. Despite repeated blows to the head from dragons, demons, Old Gods and whatever that thing over there was, Matthew Rossi will be your host.

[hide]Patch 4.2[/hide] is here. As I indicated last week, this week I will be discussing Firelands gear options for warriors. I expect I will have to do at least three weeks to cover all the possible upgrades for both DPSers and tanks, especially with Avengers of Hyjal rep rewards, regular and then heroic Firelands raid gear. If we get it done faster, that’ll be nice.

Also, I’m a tauren now. That’s right, I’m playing Horde again. I do still love worgen, but for now, I’m a tauren. I got a [hide]pretty necklace[/hide] this week. It’s one of the things I would like to tell you about. So let’s talk about [hide]Firelands[/hide].[hide]Continue reading The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Firelands non-heroic raid gear[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warrior[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]Raiding[/hide], [hide](Warrior) The Care and Feeding of Warriors[/hide], [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Firelands non-heroic raid gear[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sat, 02 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. Totem Talk: Enhancement shaman vs. Beth’tilac and Lord Rhyolith

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Totem Talk for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide], and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. On Saturdays, [hide]Josh Myers[/hide] tackles the hard questions about enhancement. Can we tank? Can we DPS with a two-hander? How does one shot web? The answer to the first two is «no,» and roll a hunter for the third!

If you’re an enhancement shaman in a regular raiding guild, congratulations! You’ve weathered the worst of the storm. Our last-minute [hide]Stormstrike buff[/hide] coupled with [hide]the nerfs[/hide] to 4.1’s prominent DPS has put us in a nice place for entering Firelands raiding. Our single-target DPS is solid now. Even better, Firelands has practically no fights with [hide]silly AOE phases[/hide] that we have to participate in! If that sentence alone doesn’t get you pumped for 4.2 raiding, I don’t know what will.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t fights with AOE phases. On the contrary, both fights I’ll be talking about today require good AOE. Thankfully, that busy work is best left to your casters. They can cry about it all the way to their [hide]legendary[/hide]. Fortunately for us, Lord Rhyolith and Beth’tilac are the two encounters in Firelands you’ll most likely encounter first, and both have unique mechanics that are well handled by the apt hands of a masterful enhancement shaman.[hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: Enhancement shaman vs. Beth’tilac and Lord Rhyolith[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide]Raiding[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide], [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: Enhancement shaman vs. Beth’tilac and Lord Rhyolith[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sat, 02 Jul 2011 16:00:00 EST. Arcane Brilliance: Upgrading your mage’s gear in patch 4.2

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Arcane Brilliance[/hide] for [hide]arcane[/hide], [hide]fire[/hide] and [hide]frost[/hide] mages. Other things, too, but none of those things are nearly as important. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that Arcane Brilliance is, without a doubt, the single greatest weekly mage column on this website. Period.

New patch day has come and gone, and we’re all now furiously blasting through the new content, hoping to upgrade our old uber gear for new uber gear. I love the weeks following patch days. It’s like the twelve days of Christmas, only instead of turtle doves and french hens we get magical flaming staves and giant angry lava spiders.

Sadly, all that new gear doesn’t simply come down the chimney and appear below our flaming Christmas trees. We have to earn it, farm for it, slay bosses for it, and quest for it. All of those things take time, a thing I find I have precious little of these days. So where best to allocate our time in order to get the gear we want in the most efficient ways possible?[hide]Continue reading Arcane Brilliance: Upgrading your mage’s gear in patch 4.2[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Mage[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide](Mage) Arcane Brilliance[/hide][hide]Arcane Brilliance: Upgrading your mage’s gear in patch 4.2[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sat, 02 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: Have you ever been abandoned by your game friends?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

I created a draenei hunter. All of my friends had been telling me how great the World of Warcraft was and how we could rule our realm! Well, I logged in, and no one was on. I learned all about the beauty of the Isles of Azuremyst and Bloodmyst. Having made it to level 15, I found that my friends had still never logged in.

I called my friends. They claimed that real life had invaded; a WoW killer was taking up their free time. They were tired with all the changes in the game. Before you knew it, I was level 40. Someone was kind and bought me my first mount. My friends had barely logged in for over two months. Honestly, they never really logged on again on my server. That was four years ago.

With all my friends leaving, I left WoW, too. About a month later, I logged back on and found a guild that was willing to teach people like me to raid. Because of the guild, I was able to make several new real-life friends. Though the guild eventually disbanded, I am still friends with several of my former guildies.

Over the past few months, much has been said about Rift, real life, and the changes in the game. Several people have abandoned their friends and guildies with little to no information on what happened. No one likes to be abandoned, least of all by their friends.

Have you ever been abandoned by your friends in WoW? How did you respond?

Around Azeroth: Directionally challenged

Mama always said that you shouldn’t stop and pull out a map in a bad neighborhood. «I was sure that last portal would finally connect to Garrosh’s mom’s bedroom, but this can’t be right,» writes [hide]Halrandir[/hide] of [hide]Midnight Cartel[/hide] on Elune (US-A). «Maybe if I’d taken a left at the ley line cluster? Oh, great. Excuse me, but will you please get out of my light before I move you myse—«

The Queue: July 4

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. [hide]Alex Ziebart[/hide] will be your host today.

Last night, I finally had a solid Zul’Gurub group — the very first one since patch 4.1. Now that I’ve been able to topple the place in a good, solid group that was willing to take its time and actually experience the instance, I have to give props to Blizzard for the amount of effort it put into the zone. All of the little optional mobs and bosses are very cool, and it felt a little like classic WoW again. You are actually rewarded for exploring and doing more than going from Boss A to Boss B.

I know I tend to rail on how dry WoW instances tend to feel nowadays, so I felt I should give Blizzard a high-five for the work the developers put into this one. Good job, team.

raingod asked:

I’ve noticed since Firelands dropped my queue time wait looking for a group has dropped considerably for regular dungeons. I mean from 10-20 min (I’m dps) to under 5. Have they tweaked this or have I gotten very lucky this week?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: July 4[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: July 4[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 04 Jul 2011 12:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: How would you spend one day as your character?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

What if you could trade skill sets with your favorite toon for a day? I would port myself to my job, instead of sitting in mind-numbing traffic for 40 minutes. When I got to work, I would pop [hide]Mirror Image[/hide] so I could have four people doing my work for me (because, you know, I’m glyphed for it!) while my water elemental and I sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. If anyone came looking for me, I’d go [hide]Invisible[/hide] and [hide]Blink[/hide] myself the heck out of Dodge.

Lunch would be no sweat — I’d just whip up some cakes and be good to go. I’d take advantage of the moment and turn my boss into a sheep (or a penguin). And when the two o’clock doldrums hit, I’d do the [hide]Time Warp[/hide] and make the rest of the day go by until the time came to port myself back home again. Once home, I’d set the water elemental to watch the children (making sure that it’s set to passive, of course) and conjure up some more cakes for dinner. I have to confess though, I would be getting the better end of the deal, as I think my poor little mage would be less than thrilled to be dropped into Twilight Highlands with nothing more than a quirky sense of humor and a penchant for the written word.

If you could trade places with your character for a day, what would you do?

Around Azeroth: After the boys of summer have gone

[hide][/hide]
[hide]Nadezhda[/hide] of [hide]Descendants of Darkness[/hide] on Terokkar (EU-A) writes, «My favourite piece of equipment ever is the Crown of the Fire Festival. But who’d have thought a death knight could embody a holiday so … uplifting? Fortunately, her habitual doom and gloom are in abeyance for the week — or at least, they would be if that pesky Spirit of Summer stopped shining in her eyes.»

The Queue: Loading

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

Looking back at old loading screens, it seems like it’s been … half a decade or more since WoW started, you know?

d’Avitant asked:

I could have sworn that Blizzard was supposed to be making male and female models of the various demons available with this patch (4.2). Was I imagining this, or am I just failing at finding it? Thanks!

This is something Blizzard is working on but not something that was scheduled for 4.2. Personally, I’m of the opinion that the various genders of demons were going to be added to the upcoming Burning Crusade sequel expansion anyway, since we’ll be visiting their home planets, and Blizzard took the opportunity to say, «Look how much we listen to you!» (Note: There may not be an upcoming Burning Crusade sequel expansion. I just hope there is.)[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Loading[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Loading[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 03 Jul 2011 12:00:00 EST.
