Breakfast Topic: What’s that one quirky thing you just have to do?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

We all have at least one — one thing we do that everyone gives us a slightly weird look and a cocked eyebrow for doing. Well … all right, maybe a few more weird things than that. But there’s that one thing we do that just makes sense to us, and we have to defend ourselves for it every time someone finds us out.

For me? I hearth to Darnassus. Yes, before you ask, I do have a love affair with night elves; however, that’s not the reason. When I first started playing WoW (and [hide]Cutaia[/hide] can vouch for this), I always found myself around Darkshore. For a good year or so, I never really did any leveling; I stayed around level 15 and stuck around the Darkshore area. Being so close to Darnassus meant I was in the city all the time. I figured out where everything was, and I liked the atmosphere.

Now, I’m level 85. Sure, I teleport to Stormwind when it’s necessary, and I know where everything is now … but I still have my hearth set to Darnassus. I tell people now that it’s for my frame rate on my laptop, but it’s still more comfortable for me. You can bet with cooking and fishing dailies added in 4.1 that you’ll be seeing me in Darnassus quite a bit more.

What’s your weird WoW quirk that you actually have a reason for doing? No judgements here.

Tuesday Morning Post: Choosing sides edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. We’re a couple of weeks into [hide]patch 4.2[/hide], and by now, many of us should have made the ultimate choice. Who did you pick first in the battle for the Firelands? Was it the ancient, mysterious order of the Shadow Wardens, or was it the slightly less hippie than normal flying aces, the Druids of the Talon? I admit, it was a hard choice, but as much as I [hide]love[/hide] [hide]Thisalee Crow[/hide], I had to side with the Shadow Wardens first. They were amazing in Warcraft III, and I have sort of missed them. They remind me of what the night elves used to be. I have to admit, I was sort of hoping Maiev would magically show up to lead them, proud and powerful, with maybe the ocassional dig at Malfurion for how much of a loser his wife is. Alas, it is apparently not be. But I hoped.

Whichever choice you made, right now you have no choice but to wait out the usual Tuesday downtime. This week, it’s from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. PDT. While you wait, you can catch up on all the news from the past few days, including guides to some of the new patch 4.2 Firelands and Tol Barad bosses. Check it all out after the break.[hide]Continue reading Tuesday Morning Post: Choosing sides edition[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Realm Status[/hide], [hide]News items[/hide][hide]Tuesday Morning Post: Choosing sides edition[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 04:00:00 EST. Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects discounted for preorder on Amazon

Christie Golden’s second Cataclysm novel, Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects, is coming out on July 19, and Amazon has the cheapest copies around. The [hide]hardcover edition[/hide] is currently available for preorder for $16.21 and the [hide]Kindle version[/hide] for just $12.99.

The first Cataclysm novel by Golden, [hide]The Shattering[/hide], told the prequel story of the newest expansion. Garrosh’s rise to power and duel with Cairne, as well as Anduin Wrynn’s involvement with the dwarven civil war, took center stage, while Thrall left leadership of the Horde to train as a shaman on the orcish home world of Draenor.

Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects, continues Thrall’s journey as a pivotal personality as the cataclysm and Deathwing ravage Azeroth. Thrall’s journey will begin with a task for Ysera that eventually becomes fraught with green dragons, nightmares, and a bleak vision from Ysera herself, the Hour of Twilight. We will know more in a week, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Around Azeroth: Night elves can’t jump

[hide][/hide]

«Anyone prone to death from falls should choose to go with recruiting the Druids of the Talon first during the Molten Front quests,» writes [hide]Kerrowyn[/hide] of [hide]ExtendedCredit[/hide] on Azuremyst (US-A). «They will save your backside if you happen to be on one of those (CENSORED) crumbling rocks near Fireplume Peak. Or wander in to an inconveniently placed updraft, like my hunter.»

Two Bosses Enter: Announcing Season 2’s boss lineup

In [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide], WoW Insider’s series of fantasy death matches, the bosses of World of Warcraft face off in the squared circle. Your vote determines who wins and claims the season title.

Today we are ready to reveal our tournament bracks for Two Bosses Enter’s second Cataclysm season! I’ve sifted through last week’s reader requests and built this tournament brackets based on a few factors. Your feedback was absolutely taken into consideration, and most of this season’s competitors were chosen by you. However, some competitors were picked by myself and other WoW Insider staffers.

Highly elaborate encounters like Jin’do the Godbreaker or bosses with one-shot abilities such as Bloodlord Mandokir, while popular choices, were not included in this season because their mechanics would make the tournament extremely one-sided unless I added special circumstances and stipulations from week to week. In order to include them, Two Bosses Enter would be less let the fans figure out what would happen and more what arbitrary rules does Alex want us to play by this week? If that’s something people want, I can make it happen next time around, but I’m fairly sure the majority of readers would like things to stay as they’ve been all along.

There will be no voting this week, but I will be revealing this week’s brackets and I will explain what we will be doing differently this season, along with some commentary of what did and did not work last season.[hide]Continue reading Two Bosses Enter: Announcing Season 2’s boss lineup[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide][hide]Two Bosses Enter: Announcing Season 2’s boss lineup[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 11 Jul 2011 09:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: Did you accomplish your Fire Festival goals?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

The coming and going of the Midsummer Fire Festival was overshadowed by the arrival of [hide]patch 4.2[/hide] and the Firelands, but now all the assorted bonfires scattered far and wide have been extinguished, and the flaming torches have all come clattering to the ground. We’ve danced ’round poles and [hide]taken care of danger in Zangarmarsh[/hide]. Heck, the Ice Stone has melted so many times it’s hard to keep track! It was a time for celebration and a time for fun, but like all good holidays, it had to come to an end.

Did you get your hands on that new pet you wanted? Some sweet gear for strutting around town? Did you finished your holiday achievements? If you didn’t get what you were seeking, what held you back?

Have you ever wanted to write for WoW Insider? Your chance may be right around the corner. Watch for our next call for submissions, and be sure to sign up for [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider. The next byline you see here may be yours!

The Daily Quest: I want money

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

It’s weird to think about the fact that The Flying Lizards were popular when I was just a baby. I always associated the song with the movie [hide]Empire Records[/hide] — which, by the way, if you haven’t seen, you should go do so. Right now. It’s okay, we’ll wait. Anyway, this was easily the most popular song they ever did. But then, who doesn’t like money?

Today, we’ve got a collection of posts from around the blogosphere regarding that favorite topic of many.

[hide]Warcraft Econ[/hide] shares some data regarding the [hide]best-selling items[/hide] as of patch 4.2.

[hide]Power Word: Gold[/hide] goes over some [hide]engineering items[/hide] that are selling in patch 4.2.

[hide]Auction House Addict[/hide] goes over the inscription profession for [hide]lowbie scribes[/hide].

[hide]Kuja’s Gold Mine[/hide] points out the profit potential in [hide]plundering Ahn’Qiraj[/hide].

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Gold Capped: How to make money while leveling

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] and Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Disclaimer: Their expertise only extends to making in-game currency, because if they knew how to make millions in real-world money, they wouldn’t be spending their time writing about WoW gold. Feed Fox’s ego by [hide]emailing him[/hide] or tweeting him at [hide]@foxvanallen[/hide].

There are hundreds of different strategies for making money once you’ve hit level 85, right? Max-level professions tend to be strong money-makers in the right hands, because they allow you to sell the latest and greatest items.

It’s a bit of a different story while leveling, however. There are gathering professions, of course, and some can provide fledgling characters with a solid chunk of cash. There are crafting professions too, but often times low-level gear and items sell for less than the materials it takes to make them.

Making money while leveling isn’t typically at the forefront of your mind when you’re making your fifth alt on your home server — after all, you can make more money running dailies at 85 than you can farming Wool Cloth. But if you’re just starting out in World of Warcraft or are starting fresh on a new server without any of your main character’s bank … well, finding a way to make money while leveling is exceptionally important, especially so you can buy the much-needed conveniences that rich players take for granted, such as [hide]Flight Master’s License[/hide] and [hide]Expert Riding[/hide].[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: How to make money while leveling[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Economy[/hide], [hide]Gold Capped[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: How to make money while leveling[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 11 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST.
