Blizzard introduces tradable «Guardian Cub» companion pet, purchasable through the Blizzard Store

[hide][/hide]
Blizzard has just announced a [hide]companion pet called the Guardian Cub[/hide] that you can purchase through the Blizzard store. Unlike previous pets, this companion pet will be a one-time-only use item and will not be Bind on Account. Additionally, this pet will be able to be traded to other players for gold.

Yes, you heard that right.

The pet will cost $10, and you can trade it to other people in game for whatever in-game currency or items you want.

Officers’ Quarters: Patch 4.3 — An officer’s perspective

Every Monday, Scott Andrews contributes [hide]Officers’ Quarters[/hide], a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. He is the author of [hide]The Guild Leader’s Handbook[/hide], available now from [hide]No Starch Press[/hide].

[hide]Patch 4.3[/hide] is shaping up to be the most exciting and feature-filled of Cataclysm. Let’s take a look at which features might impact your guild and how you can take advantage of them.

I have located a raid

The [hide]Raid Finder[/hide] is not just for the guildless. Guilds can also take advantage of this new feature in several ways. The first and most obvious is that it will allow your raiders to get practice time on bosses for your own normal-mode raids. Since you don’t get locked to the instance using the finder, you can see the mechanics ahead of time and still raid with your guild in the same week.

If you have players who need to get up to speed, you can also use Raid Finder runs as a training ground. New players can learn the fights without wasting time and causing wipes in your normal runs. (Of course, we have yet to see how different finder mode and normal mode will be, but odds are the mechanics will be fairly similar.) Plus you can use the opportunity to address any issues that the player might be having with DPS rotations, awareness, etc.[hide]Continue reading Officers’ Quarters: Patch 4.3 — An officer’s perspective[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Officers’ Quarters (Guild Leadership)[/hide][hide]Officers’ Quarters: Patch 4.3 — An officer’s perspective[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 14:00:00 EST. Drama Mamas: Dealing with WoW bashing

[hide]Drama Mamas[/hide] Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas — and just as we don’t want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

Robin may or may not rant later.

Dear Drama Mamas,

I’m wondering if others have been experiencing something similar to a new guild I recently tried out:

My wife and I have been looking for a new «home» to transfer to, since many of our RL friends hardly play, if at all, and our previous friends/family guild almost entirely perma-logged and moved on from WoW. We’ve been testing guilds by starting new toons and joining up to get a feel for the guild before dropping $$$ on transferring.

One such guild was suggested by a WoW Insider poster. At first it was exciting to be in a guild with someone who was about as big a WoW nerd as I was, but after joining their guild’s Facebook page, it quickly went from good to bad. There were about 3-5 members who regularly trash-talked WoW and were eager to play something new/different. I got the feeling much of this trash-talking was intended to draw more WoW guildies away to play with them. The worst part was that the poster who got me into the guild had become one of them.[hide]Continue reading Drama Mamas: Dealing with WoW bashing[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]Drama Mamas[/hide][hide]Drama Mamas: Dealing with WoW bashing[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 13:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: Moonglade Beat

Today’s video is a treat from [hide]Greyfoo[/hide] and [hide]Brunhila[/hide]. While hosting an all-leather rogue show, the intrepid duo opts to seek out the meaning of life and the inevitable allure of druids. Specifically, they address the mystery of the [hide]Moonglade Beat[/hide].

Greyfoo created the machinima, and Brunhila provided additional vocals. As we’ve come to expect from Greyfoo, this video offers some incredible, gorgeous visuals. The song is smart and fun with a subtle, catchy beat. It’s always exciting to see new material from him. Brunhila is a favorite of ours, also, and I’m particularly happy to see her collaborating with Greyfoo. It seems like a great match.

Kick back, relax, and enjoy a hippy-trippy time with Moonglade Beat.

Interested in the wide world of [hide]machinima[/hide]? We have new movies every weekday here on [hide]WoW Moviewatch[/hide]! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at [hide]moviewatch@wowinsider.com[/hide].

Breakfast Topic: Transmogrification means revenge

[hide][/hide]
This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

We’ve all had this problem: that one piece of gear that never dropped when it was relevant, only to drop the first time you went back, and you were left going «Really? … Really?!» Sure, you laugh it off, but you can’t help but give the RNG gods the finger, can you?

When I started thinking about what gear I’d want to gather from transmogrification, the very first idea that came to me seemed so … perfect. Back in The Burning Crusade, I had a huge bone to pick with the [hide]Beast Lord Armor[/hide]. I had the legs, chest, and gloves, but the helm and shoulders refused to ever drop for me. I had to get the look-alike PVP shoulders just so I wasn’t wearing greens anymore. I went back at level 80 to get some reputations to exalted, only for both pieces to drop on my first try. My friends on voice chat could hear the steam coming out of my ears!

Transmogrification has given me the will to go and collect that whole set all over again (with the matching belt and boots), and I am going to wear it with pride. I am going to show Blizzard that it doesn’t roll the dice — I do. I also think the armor set looks pretty badass, but that’s a different matter.

Has transmogrification driven you to go and get that one piece (or more) of gear that never dropped back in the day? And why are you getting it? For looks? Closure? To beat that one boss down over and over for the hell it caused you back in the day?

Around Azeroth: Do not expose to extreme temperatures

[hide][/hide]
Submitter [hide]Gunthsaar[/hide] of [hide]CHILDREN OF DOOM[/hide] on Outland (EU-H) decided to use Deathwing’s fire to reenact one of his favorite moments in improbable movie physics — the notorious helicopter-escaping-an-explosion scene. Luckily, Gunthsaar is a Gnomish rather than a Goblin engineer, so the helicopter merely transitioned into an alternate universe, rather than suddenly igniting into a larger fireball and wiping half of Kalimdor off the map.

The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Arms in PVE and PVP

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]The Care and Feeding of Warriors[/hide], the column dedicated to [hide]arms[/hide], [hide]fury[/hide] and [hide]protection warriors[/hide]. Despite repeated blows to the head from dragons, demons, Old Gods and whatever that thing over there was, Matthew Rossi will be your host.

I promised you arms PVP. Instead, I’m going to give you arms in both PVP and PVE over the next two weeks. Frankly, in my opinion, arms is the warrior tree in the most need of adjustment. It does not perform up to par in PVE once you get into raid gear, and while it offers some great PVP control, it lacks the true punishing power it once held. Without the feared Mortal Strike debuff of previous expansions, arms needs to pop reasonably long cooldowns and use its full arsenal of stuns and interrupts and snares to even have a chance to do what other classes can in PVP.

What’s worse, the arms playstyle, while extremely engaging and a lot of fun in terms of its pure mobility, nice tricks, and ability to throw out solid burst, can become extremely difficult to perform to its fullest.[hide]Continue reading The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Arms in PVE and PVP[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warrior[/hide], [hide](Warrior) The Care and Feeding of Warriors[/hide][hide]The Care and Feeding of Warriors: Arms in PVE and PVP[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sat, 08 Oct 2011 18:00:00 EST. Patch 4.3 PTR: New druid Hurricane animation

[hide]Patch 4.3[/hide] has been [hide]updating many player spells[/hide] including Wrath, Shadow Bolt, and Lightning Bolt. Another spell in the druid’s arsenal, [hide]Hurricane[/hide], is getting a visual upgrade. Now, the spell actually calls down tornadoes in the area of effect zone, with a cool sound associated with it. The new animation looks pretty neat, and you should definitely check out the video of the [hide]new effects at Blizzplanet[/hide].

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with [hide]patch 4.3[/hide]. Review the [hide]official patch notes[/hide], and then dig into what’s ahead: new [hide]item storage options[/hide], [hide]cross-realm raiding[/hide], [hide]cosmetic armor skinning[/hide] and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing — from [hide]astride his back[/hide]!

Know Your Lore: The Shattering, part 1

[hide][/hide]
The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You’re playing the game, you’re fighting the bosses, you know the how — but do you know the why? Each week, [hide]Matthew Rossi [/hide]and [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] make sure you [hide]Know Your Lore[/hide] by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft.

On Nov. 22, 2010, millions of players logged in to World of Warcraft to view [hide]the old world [/hide]one final time. Whether venturing to out-of-the-way spots, running around the park in Stormwind, or saying goodbye to Magni Bronzebeard and Cairne Bloodhoof, every player was well aware that the next day, these locations and people would no longer exist. As for me, my guild leader took those of us who wished to go on a romp around the hidden places in Azeroth that many had never before seen and would never see again.

On Nov. 23, players logged on to find an entirely different, harsher world waiting for them. Orgrimmar was transformed into a bristling fortress of iron and steel. Stormwind’s faade was forever marred by the charred claw marks of Deathwing, and the lovely park nestled in the corner of the mighty city had been torched and fallen away into the sea below. In Ironforge, the city was now ruled by a council of three; in Orgrimmar, a new Warchief sat on the throne. In Thunder Bluff, Baine Bloodhoof now stood in the place of honor once reserved for his father Cairne.

For those who read the novel The Shattering by Christie Golden, all these events made perfect sense. For those who hadn’t picked up the book, the resounding question asked was a simple «What happened?»

Today’s Know Your Lore contains pretty much every possible spoiler that exists for the novel The Shattering by Christie Golden. If you’ve been putting off picking up the book and giving it a read and would like to remain unspoiled, I would highly suggest turning away now. Sunday Morning Funnies: Five hundred slaps ago

[hide][/hide]
[hide]Sunday Morning Funnies[/hide] is your weekly list of WoW-related web comics.

Now, I know that several of everyone’s favorite comics have been inconsistent or absent lately, so I thought I’d share some links to the artists’ explanations.

[hide]Fourth Wall[/hide]

[hide]Slash AFK[/hide]

[hide]Daily Quests[/hide]

[hide]WoW, eh[/hide]?

Also, Silkspinner of Complex Actions has hand issues, and Torment of the Week has been stalled due to health and wedding preparations. Unfortunately, no one makes these comics for a living; it’s all extracurricular. I’d like to thank all of the artists for doing what they do. Thank you!

That said, the list is still thriving, and we’re always ready to take referrals to more comics. Forward, ho![hide]Continue reading Sunday Morning Funnies: Five hundred slaps ago[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]Humor[/hide], [hide]Comics[/hide], [hide]Sunday Morning Funnies[/hide][hide]Sunday Morning Funnies: Five hundred slaps ago[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 09 Oct 2011 14:00:00 EST.
