WoW Moviewatch: How to Tell If Your PUG Will Fail

[hide]How to Tell If Your PUG Will Fail[/hide] is the newest video from [hide]Wowcrendor[/hide]. While the title makes the video sound like a guide to the success or failure of your PUG, it actually feels more like the comprehensive guide to the first 5 minutes of any given PUG.

Wowcrendor has nailed the universal experience PUG experience with this video. That probably shouldn’t be a surprise, given his history of success, but I was almost shocked at how accurate this portrayal turned out to be.

If you’re skeptical, let me assure you these things do happen. During a recent run of about 10 PUG groups, I came across two healers who were actually DPSers. They both asked someone else to heal. I hear the same thing happens with tanks, but since that’s my preferred dungeon role, I never observe this myself.

In the end, this is a nice video from Wowcrendor. I just can’t decide if it makes me want to laugh or cry.

The Queue: Because Sacco told me to write it

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mathew McCurley, [hide]Twitter[/hide] and [hide]YouTube[/hide] superstar, will be your host today.

Here’s how the conversation went.

INT. PIDGIN CHAT WINDOW — EVENING

Letters form to make a jumble of words, the night sky far off in the distance, summer’s sun still shining down bright over the small Brooklyn apartment. Pings and dings alert MATHEW MCCURLEY to messages from the computer.

SACCO (dismissively)

Hey Mat, you’re doing The Queue for me tomorrow.

MAT

Okay, that sounds great.

INT. SACCO’S SOUL — EVENING

No life stirs. This land has been barren for ages.

The End.

Elmo asked:

Why are the cloaks of Draenei Males floating 2 feet above their tail?

I would assume that draenei cloaks float above their tails for the single reason that Blizzard did not want them to clip through their tails. As for a lore reason, I have no idea. Draenei magic. Remnant light energy from a voided naaru. I haven’t played with a cape or cloak on since vanilla, including my draenei priest.[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Because Sacco told me to write it[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Because Sacco told me to write it[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 11:00:00 EST. Around Azeroth: The year of flying dangerously

[hide][/hide]
So, are you going to see the final Harry Potter tonight? I assume that submitter [hide]Hedwig[/hide] of [hide]Band of Misfits[/hide] on Azuremyst (US-A), shown here breaking out of Gringotts on her dragon, will be in the front row. (Or is she just a fan of rock musicals?) Anyway, I’ll see you at the theater, nerds. Bring popcorn and Chocolate Frogs!

Raid Rx: Healer’s guide to Baleroc

Every week, [hide]Raid Rx[/hide] will help you quarterback your healers to victory! Your host is [hide]Matt Low[/hide], the grand pooh-bah of [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and a founder of [hide]Plus Heal[/hide], a discussion community for healers of all experience levels and interests. Catch his weekly podcast on healing, raiding and leading, the [hide]Matticast[/hide].

This Baleroc encounter gave me a big fit both on the healing management side and the micromanagement side. It is entirely about the healers and their ability to switch assignments on command. Peripheral vision plays a huge role, so make sure your camera angles aren’t too far out, or else you’ll miss the crystal spawns. Stay too close, and you’ll be blasted with a debuff that will cause your healing ability to plummet and almost assuredly lead to a tank death. After successfully healing with both the one-tank method and the two-tank method, I prefer the two-tank method.

My thoughts and the methods laid out reflect my raid group in a 25-player setting.[hide]Continue reading Raid Rx: Healer’s guide to Baleroc[/hide][hide]Raid Rx: Healer’s guide to Baleroc[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 15 Jul 2011 09:00:00 EST. Cross-realm Real ID grouping now available

A few months back, Blizzard teased that a [hide]new service would be hitting WoW[/hide] that would allow members of the same faction to group and queue for random dungeons across servers. Players would need to be Real ID friends with the people they wanted to invite into a group and would be limited to 5-man dungeons; no raids or world content would be available to cross-server groups.

The service has apparently just gone live, free, for what is probably a limited time. Blizzard had also said that this cross-realm grouping would be part of the premium package of WoW services that players can pay for monthly, and only the group leader doing the invites would have to have the service in order to invite people cross-realm. Much as the mobile guild chat feature was rolled out free to let people check it out, it appears cross-realm Real ID grouping is getting the same trial period.

Check out cross-realm Real ID grouping in game, and start grouping with your friends beyond server boundaries, and hit the jump for the full announcement.[hide]Continue reading Cross-realm Real ID grouping now available[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Blizzard[/hide], [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Cross-realm Real ID grouping now available[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 13:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: Welcome to Mystery

[hide]Welcome to Mystery[/hide] is a vanity video created by the player of [hide]Mystery[/hide], a priest on the Earthen Ring RP server. It’s a nice tour through the world set to a gorgeous song, with some brief action shots from various encounters.

It’s nice to see this kind of video occasionally. Mystery has been an active character since the days of vanilla WoW, which means it’s at least a five-year investment of time. Little works of art like this help explain the ongoing engagement and interest in the game that we all enjoy. In a sense, you see a video like this, kick your feet back, and think, «Yeah, this was worth it.»

The Queue: At least I’ve got video

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky, senior editor at WoW Insider, will be your host today.

That video is in response to yesterday’s Queue.

Also, it is relatively bad ass and is probably something none of us can do.

Cyrromatic asked:

What happened to Arthas’s body? Can’t imagine it laying in front of Bolvar forever.[hide]Continue reading The Queue: At least I’ve got video[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: At least I’ve got video[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 11:00:00 EST. Honor compensation date announced for recent PVP gear debacle

Blizzard’s Bashiok has posted a time frame for the [hide]previously announced[/hide] 4,000-honor point compensation package for players who spent honor on old gear during the week between the PVP Season 9 and Season 10. Any player who spent honor on ilevel 365 gear during the transition week will be awarded a free 4,000 honor points, which can go over the point cap and can be spent on the new, higher tier of Vicious PVP gear. This free honor will be awarded to players during maintenance on July 19 (this coming Tuesday).

I think this is a pretty good compensation package for players who were not informed of the change in how PVP gear would be handled this season. The biggest issue from the debacle was that players spent a huge amount of time and effort grinding out honor for ilevel 365 gear during the off-week, then spent it, only to see the gear became useless just days later. Now that work has essentially been restored in the form of new, shiny, over-the-cap honor points. You will not be able to earn more honor points until you dip below the cap again, however.[hide]Continue reading Honor compensation date announced for recent PVP gear debacle[/hide]Filed under: [hide]PvP[/hide], [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Honor compensation date announced for recent PVP gear debacle[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 19:00:00 EST. Scattered Shots: The DPS value of skill

Every Thursday, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Scattered Shots[/hide] for [hide]beast mastery[/hide], [hide]marksmanship[/hide] and [hide]survival[/hide] hunters. Frostheim of [hide]Warcraft Hunters Union[/hide] uses logic and science (mixed with a few mugs of dwarven stout) to look deep into the hunter class. Mail your hunter questions to [hide]Frostheim[/hide].

The problem with skill is that there’s no number on our character pane or armory to measure it. Everyone will swiftly agree that skill is the most important thing — more important than this talent or that reforge — but without having a number right there to look at, everyone ends up ignoring it and instead focuses in on this talent or that reforge.

«Your DPS is low? Well you should really reforge your boots to haste,» or «Why aren’t you gemming for agility u noob!»

Let me assure you something: If you’re underperforming by thousands of DPS and can’t make it to the top of the meters, 95% of the time it’s a skill issue. Even if your talents/gems/glyphs/reforging aren’t very optimized, odds are you aren’t really seeing that difference. But if you have even a moderate slip on skill issues, it’s immediately apparent.

So let’s today step back a moment and consider hunter skill once again. We’re all used to obsessing over every tiny part of character optimization, so we’re going to put skill into terms that correlate to that: DPS.[hide]Continue reading Scattered Shots: The DPS value of skill[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Hunter[/hide], [hide](Hunter) Scattered Shots[/hide][hide]Scattered Shots: The DPS value of skill[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST. WoW Rookie: How to buy someone a gift from the pet store

The [hide]Blizzard pet store[/hide] was introduced nearly two years ago, giving players the opportunity to drop a handful of dollars on fun, interesting in-game pets. Yet the pet store has always been fairly controversial. Paying for in-game content, no matter how little effect that content might have on gameplay itself, simply runs counter to the beliefs of many long-time WoW players.

To me, however, the pet store seems like a exciting new opportunity for gift giving. After all, noncombat pets are only $10, and even [hide]mounts[/hide] are only $25. That’s a perfect price range for a «thinking of you» gift, making pets and mounts wonderful little nothings to give to a loved one.

If you’ve not given a gift from the Blizzard Store before, the process can seem a little intimidating. Here’s a simple guide on how to buy someone a gift from the pet store.[hide]Continue reading WoW Rookie: How to buy someone a gift from the pet store[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Rookie[/hide][hide]WoW Rookie: How to buy someone a gift from the pet store[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 14 Jul 2011 17:00:00 EST.
