Around Azeroth: The neon of nature

[hide][/hide]
On Earth and on Azeroth, the deep sea can produce some pretty funky-looking beings. [hide]Vishar[/hide] of Elune (US-A) spotted this [hide]anglerfish[/hide] and became a little bit confused by its strange protuberances. «While out for a relaxing swim with the fish the other day, I made an alarming discovery,» he writes. «The tobacco industry has found a new underwater demographic. That’s right. Fish have started smoking. I’m not sure if I should be starting an aquatic anti-tobacco campaign or just be impressed that they found a way to keep their cigarettes lit up underwater.»

Shifting Perspectives: Developer Q&A touches on resto druid issues

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide], [hide]bear[/hide], [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. This week, we turn our attention the most recent [hide]developer Q&A[/hide] … and we all know what happened the [hide]last time we did that[/hide].

I spent the weekend being a trifle distracted (and then heartbroken) by the Women’s World Cup, but at least we can [hide]feel good about the winner[/hide]. Oh, and for all those of you who utilize musk deer glands in your health regimen, please remember to [hide]check them for steroids[/hide], in much the same fashion that one would check flour for boll weevils and rice grains for moths in one’s pantry. This has been a public service announcement by your friendly local World of Warcraft blog, which takes an interest in this matter because a commenter once accused it of fomenting unrest in North Korea.

What the hell is this column supposed to be about? Oh, right. Anyway, the final [hide]developer Q&A[/hide] was published this past Friday, and within it were a few nuggets of interest to restoration druids. We didn’t get any questions that specifically dealt with our spec, so I am not required to Hulk out over the [hide]lack of answers[/hide] that Blizzard has traditionally provided to such questions, so let’s spend today being happy and relatively sane.[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: Developer Q&A touches on resto druid issues[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: Developer Q&A touches on resto druid issues[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 20 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST. Meet the Bloggers: Basil «Euripides» Berntsen

About the Bloggers introduces you to the people behind WoW Insider. You can find articles on more WI staffers in earlier [hide]About the Bloggers entries[/hide].

What do you do for WoW Insider?

I write [hide]Gold Capped[/hide]. I used to write Time is Money and Insider Trader as well, but then I decided to stop trying to categorize my thoughts and simply dump them all into Gold Capped and let my editors sort it out.

What’s your main?

I have exactly one level 85 character: [hide]my hunter[/hide]. I raid and PVP with him, as well as use him for my alchemy and blacksmithing businesses. I will continue to have one max-level character until all the jewelcrafting dailies my JC mule does dings him 85 without having set foot outside Stormwind.

I have way too much on my plate to actually take care of my alts. For one, I hate leveling. Once you’ve seen it once, doing it again doesn’t have enough reward to justify the time. Secondly, if I had more playtime to use, I’d use it to do more of what I already do. I could be doing 10-man extensions of my 25-man raid if I had another raid night per week, or I could do more than a rated BG now and then. Starting a second gear grind with another character isn’t something that’s on my radar.[hide]Continue reading Meet the Bloggers: Basil «Euripides» Berntsen[/hide]Filed under: [hide]About the Bloggers[/hide][hide]Meet the Bloggers: Basil «Euripides» Berntsen[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 20 Jul 2011 14:00:00 EST. Рагнарос-25 (гер.) побежден гильдией Paragon

[hide][/hide]

Финальный босс Огненных Просторов Рагнарос впервые в мире был побежден в героическом режиме рейда на 25 человек MMORPG World of Warcraft: Cataclysm гильдией Paragon.

Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 19

We’ve got another round of hotfixes posted to the official Warcraft blog. Tonight’s list is a relatively short one. Included are ever-present tweaks and fixes to the Firelands raid, as well as a couple of class changes for death knights and druids.

For death knights, Improved Death Strike now provides 40/80/120% bonus damage and a 10/20/30% critical strike bonus, up from 30/60/90% and 3/6/9% respectively.

Hey, druids! Moonfire will now generate Lunar Energy when crossing Solar to Lunar on the Eclipse bar.

All bosses in The Bastion of Twilight, Blackwing Descent, and Throne of the Four Winds once again award valor points in all raid sizes and difficulties. 10-player bosses award 35 valor points, and 25-player bosses award 45. This change does not, however, apply to Argaloth over in Baradin Hold.

Follow after the break for the full list of hotfixes.[hide]Continue reading Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 19[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Hotfixes[/hide][hide]Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 19[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 23:49:00 EST. General

The frequency at which players can use /yell, /say, and any emotes is now throttled to prevent excessive spamming of chat logs from occurring.

Classes

Death Knights

Improved Death Strike now provides 40/80/120% bonus damage, up from 30/60/90%, and a 10/20/30% critical strike bonus, up from 3/6/9%.
Druids

Flight Form now cancels the Leyara’s Locket buff.
Moonfire will now generate Lunar Energy when crossing from Solar to Lunar on the Eclipse bar.

Dungeons & Raids

All bosses in The Bastion of Twilight, Blackwing Descent, and Throne of the Four Winds once again award Valor Points in all raid sizes and difficulties. 10-player bosses award 35 Valor Points, while 25-player bosses award 45 Valor Points. This change does not apply to Argaloth in Baradin Hold. More information can be found here.

Firelands

Superheated cannot be cast on players, even if they attack the Flamewaker Animators as they are channeling energy towards the Unstable Magma.
Alysrazor

Collecting Blazing Power now refreshes Wings of Flame to its full duration each time.
Alysrazor will now always face the correct direction during Firestorm.
Imprinted should now be cleared from characters under all conditions when the encounter resets.
Interacting with a Molten Feather will now dismount characters, preventing the feather from being wasted.

Beth’tilac

Beth’tilac will now only eat spiderlings that move very close to her (the range on her ability to consume them has been reduced). In addition, eaten spiderlings will no longer sometimes remain on the ground or on players once she consumes them.
Drones should no longer evade or aggro characters on top of the web.
Fixate now truly fixates on random targets.

Ragnaros

On 25-player Heroic difficulty, Cloudbursts will now always properly apply Deluge to 3 players before fading away.
It should always be possible to interact with Cloudbursts, even if several players click on one at the same time.

Items

Heroic bind-on-equip items now sell to vendors for gold.
PvP

Arenas

A resolution has been put into place which should help alleviate Rated Battleground matchmaking delays. This fix corrects an issue that could occur if a team at the front of the queue was particularly difficult to match, resulting in a bottleneck which slowed matchmaking for all players in queue. More information can be found here.

Quests & Creatures

The melee evasion angle of several creatures has been adjusted. Most notably, melee classes should no longer be seeing abilities, such as Backstab or Shred, getting parried when standing well enough out of Ragnaros’s melee evasion angle, or other bosses/creatures with similar evasion angles.

Reader UI of the Week: A call for help from Understud

[hide][/hide]
Each week, WoW Insider and [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] bring you a fresh look at [hide]reader-submitted UIs[/hide] as well as [hide]Addon Spotlight[/hide], which spotlights the latest user interface addons. Have a screenshot of your own UI that you’d like to submit? Send your screenshots along with info on what mods you’re using to [hide]readerui@wowinsider.com[/hide], and [hide]follow Mathew[/hide] on Twitter.

One of the more difficult types of user interfaces to address is one in distress, not necessarily because of the lack of skill of the UI’s creator but mostly because he or she might not know what questions to ask. When someone asks a pointed question about an addon recommendation or UI fix, there’s usually a definitive answer. What can I do to fix my UI?, however, is a different beast of a question altogether. What needs fixing? What do you feel is broken? What if things just work, but you don’t know how it could work better because of the lack of knowledge?

Understud’s UI could use some work, which is why the short but hopeful email that was sent to me caught my eye. If this column is about anything, it is about helping people gain ideas and knowledge and what the WoW interface is capable of. Understud needs help learning and understanding, while at the same time, he seeks to benefit from the generals — UI-building tips that span all user interfaces. Let’s see if we can help him out, because if there is one thing we do here at Reader UI of the Week, it’s care.[hide]Continue reading Reader UI of the Week: A call for help from Understud[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Add-Ons[/hide], [hide]Reader UI of the Week[/hide][hide]Reader UI of the Week: A call for help from Understud[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 21:00:00 EST. World First: Paragon defeats heroic 25-man Ragnaros

After just a few weeks of Firelands raiding, [hide]DREAM Paragon[/hide] has defeated Ragnaros on 25-man heroic mode, earning them the world first and the Firelord title. DREAM Paragon announced the news on their website, promising their kill shot and comments in the near future. Congratulations to Paragon for this world first.

The heroic version of the Ragnaros fight adds a whole new phase to the encounter in which Ragnaros regains his full Firelord strength, steps out of his swirling molten pool, and becomes mobile around the platform with his new firelegs. Cenarius, Hamuul Runetotem and Malfurion Stormrage assist the players in tackling Ragnaros’ many abilities in this new phase, finally putting out the Firelord’s lights for good.

Heroic modes for the Ragnaros fight and others in the Firelands were also not available on the public test realm, making it that much more difficult for these hardcore raiding guilds to get time in on these encounters.

I am excited to hear about Paragon’s time with these bosses in the Firelands. At only seven bosses, the Firelands is one of the more accessible raid zones, with a time commitment that feels far smaller than the monolithic endeavors of the past, like ICC or Ulduar. Has Firelands presented enough of a challenge to the top of the top guilds? Whatever the case, congratulations again! I hope that my guild will be at heroic Rag’s door in the near future.

Lichborne: Buy your death knight some patch 4.2 valor gear

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Lichborne[/hide] for [hide]blood[/hide], [hide]frost[/hide], and [hide]unholy[/hide] death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let’s show the other classes how a hero class gets things done.

Now that [hide]patch 4.2[/hide] has been out a few weeks, if you’ve been faithfully raiding or queuing up for your random dungeons, you should have a pretty good chunk of valor points ready for use. That means it’s time to start thinking seriously about what you should buy. This week, we’ll be taking a look at the new valor point gear from patch 4.2 and figuring out what each brings to the table for you.[hide]Continue reading Lichborne: Buy your death knight some patch 4.2 valor gear[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Death Knight[/hide], [hide](Death Knight) Lichborne[/hide][hide]Lichborne: Buy your death knight some patch 4.2 valor gear[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 19 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST.
