Lichborne: The state of the patch 4.2 death knight

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide] Lichborne[/hide] for [hide]blood[/hide], [hide]frost[/hide], and [hide] unholy[/hide] death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let’s show the other classes how a hero class gets things done.

Now that [hide]patch 4.2[/hide] has been out for a few weeks, it’s a good time to look at the fruits of our nerfs. Patch 4.2 saw a surprising amount of death knight changes, from the nerfing of [hide]Obliterate[/hide] to the last-minute buffing of [hide]Unholy Might[/hide]. Nearly as conspicuous was the near complete lack of blood tanking changes.

With all of this in play, we definitely expected some shakeups when patch 4.2 went live; now, it’s time to take a look at how those shakeups have played out. Most stuff went more or less as expected, but there have been a few surprising twists. We’ll tackle it all after the break.[hide]Continue reading Lichborne: The state of the patch 4.2 death knight[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Death Knight[/hide], [hide](Death Knight) Lichborne[/hide][hide]Lichborne: The state of the patch 4.2 death knight[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 13:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: Total Escapism vol. 5

We got our first look at the trailer for [hide]Total Escapism vol. 5[/hide] last week. Good as his word, [hide]Baron Soosdon[/hide] has now made that [hide]full movie available[/hide] on YouTube in the United States. This is the last movie in his Total Escapism series. The Baron will still be around creating machinima, but he felt it was time to close the chapter on this particular series.

Total Escapism vol. 5 is a gorgeous 15-minute romp through the world of Azeroth. You not only get to see some astounding views of places and landmarks in the World of Warcraft, but you’ll see some high-quality footage of characters casting spells and living in the game.

Really, though, talking about the subject material of this video does it a disservice. The point isn’t the literal narration of what’s happening on the screen; instead, the point is to watch the beautiful animation and astounding graphics. It’s an experience more than a story, and it’s one the Baron has executed marvelously.

The Queue: Lore and the order of the novels

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky, senior editor of being hella awesome, will be your host today.

I love lore questions; they’re always fun to research and write answers too. I also like bugging people who know more about lore than I do, like Mat, Matt, and Anne. It’s a good time.

In fact, let’s start off with a lore question today — namely, where to go for more information and the chronological order of the books.

Levi asked:

I’ve always loved the Warcraft series and one of my favorite things is the lore, however, i’ve never read any of the books. I’ve decided to amend this travesty and start reading them but I want to read them in chronological order, just for the heck of it I guess. So my question is:

What is the chronological order of all the Warcraft novels?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Lore and the order of the novels[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Lore and the order of the novels[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 11:00:00 EST. Around Azeroth: No cats go to heaven

[hide][/hide]
«I was running Escape from Durnholde a few days ago when I stuck around after the final boss,» writes [hide]Dumbpuppyman[/hide] of [hide]Midnight Cartel[/hide] on Elune (US-A). «Running down to reminisce about/mourn Southshore, I discovered that for whatever reason the water was missing. As in ‘gone’ — no swimming environment, no fuzzy you’re-leaving-the-boundaries-of-the-map clouds you usually get in those instances. Nevertheless, the boats were still floating, and the fish were still swimming, which made hunting a much more attractive prospect for this sushi-loving kitty.»

The Daily Quest: Have you ever wondered …?

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

I have to say, one of my favorite bugs of all time was the one where players could get stuck in Polymorph form yet still retain control of their characters. The above video is a good example of the bug, framing it around the question, «What would you do if your best friend turned into a sheep?» I’m thinking running around a busy street repeatedly hitting Fan of Knives would be entertaining (not to mention unsettling to the general public).

Today, we’ve got a few posts from around the blogosphere that also question and answer a variety of topics.

[hide]A Sunnier Bear[/hide] wonders whether or not other people mention WoW as a hobby to friends or acquaintances who [hide]don’t play[/hide].

[hide]Manalicious[/hide] has figured out how Real ID Grouping, even as a premium feature, is going to save both [hide]time and money[/hide].

[hide]Dwarven Battle Medic[/hide] goes over the ins and outs of [hide]tracking Illuminated Healing[/hide] for holy paladins (in case you were wondering how).

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Blood Pact: How to build a better warlock UI

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

As the most recent raid on the block and still relatively new, Firelands is a rather popular pastime these days. Who can blame players, either? The place is stunning, the encounters are actually fun and engaging, and it’s a blast to run. As a DPSer, a part of that joy is being able to deal the highest amount of damage that you possibly can. It also involves keeping yourself alive. More than all that, you want to look good while doing it.

This week, we’ll explore some of the common addons that you can utilize as a warlock in order to maximize both your damage potential and your survivability. While a number of people work with the standard Blizzard UI, there are just some things that it isn’t capable of doing (nor does it look nearly as good doing them). Ready to go all out?[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: How to build a better warlock UI[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: How to build a better warlock UI[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 16:00:00 EST. Gold Capped: Cashing in on the Molten Front

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] and Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Feed Fox’s ego by [hide]emailing him[/hide] or tweeting him at [hide]@foxvanallen[/hide].

If you’ll allow me a moment to editorialize, I’m pretty damn sick of the Molten Front. This new questing area for level 85s, released with patch 4.2, is the grind-iest damn place I ever had the misfortune to grind lately.

Basically, how it works is this: First, you clear a solid chunk of the regular Mount Hyjal quests that have been available since Cataclysm’s launch. This opens up a small new quest hub, the Sanctuary of Malorne, with a couple of non-repeatable quests and a few dailies. Grind those dailies long enough, and you’ll get access to a new daily quest hub inside the Firelands. Grind those dailies (and the old ones), and in another week or so, you’ll gain access to another set of dailies. Keep grinding, and … yes, you guessed it, another set of dailies becomes available.

Eventually, after about 40 consecutive days of grinding dailies in the Molten Front, you’ll gain access to your choice of three vendors: one with tailoring and leatherworking patterns, and one with blacksmithing plans and engineering schematics. The stuff you can make from the patterns, plans, and schematic are neat — 36-slot profession bags and some epic i365 gear.

There’s an awful lot of grind-y garbage keeping most players from these rewards. But for those of us who play the auction house, that’s a good thing — players are always willing to pay a premium to avoid a long, boring grind.[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Cashing in on the Molten Front[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Economy[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: Cashing in on the Molten Front[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 15:00:00 EST. Two Bosses Enter: Foe Reaper 5000 vs. Commander Springvale

In [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide], WoW Insider’s series of fantasy death matches, the bosses of World of Warcraft face off in the squared circle. Your vote determines who wins and claims the season title.

Last week was the debut of Cataclysm’s second Two Bosses Enter season, featuring a showdown between [hide]High Priestess Azil and «Captain» Cookie[/hide]. It was very exciting! No, really. It was. What, you don’t like watching murlocs get crushed by giant boulders? Well, fine. Maybe this week’s matchup between an automated can opener and a dead paladin turned death knight will be more to your liking.

Follow along for the rules of the matchup, a review of what these bosses can do, and a discussion of last week’s winner.[hide]Continue reading Two Bosses Enter: Foe Reaper 5000 vs. Commander Springvale[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide][hide]Two Bosses Enter: Foe Reaper 5000 vs. Commander Springvale[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 13:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: My Baby’s a Quest NPC

Work warning: This video contains sexual themes and references.

[hide]Greyfoo[/hide] is back with a brand new video called [hide]My Baby’s a Quest NPC[/hide]. This original music tells the story of a man who discovers his girlfriend is actually a quest giver, which means he needs to perform some Herculean tasks to win her back. Of course, that’s much harder than it seems, and he eventually decides to find love in Dolanaar instead.

This video has the trademark vocals, smooth rhythms, and laid-back feeling possessed by all of Greyfoo’s music. The song was actually written way back in classic WoW, so you might pick up a few oddities while you listen. If your’e a fan of Greyfoo’s music, you can find his complete album over at [hide]CDBaby[/hide].
