Lichborne: Closing the unholy gap in patch 4.3

[hide][/hide]

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Lichborne[/hide] for [hide]blood[/hide], [hide]frost[/hide], and [hide]unholy[/hide] death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let’s show the other classes how a hero class gets things done.

If you read Brian Wood’s [hide]state of the DPS[/hide] feature a week or so back, you probably noted something that the death knight community’s been arguing since somewhere back around patch 4.0.6: The unholy tree is lagging behind, and it’s only getting worse. While the raid attack power buff coming with [hide]patch 4.3[/hide] should help out a bit, unholy may still need a bit of extra help to get back to at least that median DPS area. Today, we’ll look at the problems facing the unholy tree and what we might like to see in the way of buffs on the patch 4.3 PTR.[hide]Continue reading Lichborne: Closing the unholy gap in patch 4.3[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Death Knight[/hide], [hide](Death Knight) Lichborne[/hide][hide]Lichborne: Closing the unholy gap in patch 4.3[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 13:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: The Captain’s Wife’s Lament

With [hide]BlizzCon[/hide] about two weeks away, the [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] staff is celebrating the wild, wonderful world of WoW machinima by revisiting some old favorites.

Work warning: This video is based on a single ribald pun. While it’s not cursing per se, anyone who hears the song will get the innuendo immediately.

[hide]Kelly[/hide] recommended today’s staff favorite: [hide]The Captain’s Wife’s Lament[/hide]. Originally a song performed by [hide]Paul and Storm[/hide], it was transcribed into machinima form by Spiffworld. Spiff is known for his brilliant interpretations of JoCo’s work in video, and he gave the full treatment to The Captain’s Wife’s Lament.

The strength of the video is that it’s a short, single-theme joke. Spiff dives right into the innuendo, has fun with the video, and doesn’t artificially draw the video out any longer than needed. The Captain’s Wife’s Lament is fun and ripe for a quick laugh.

The Queue: I am not yet pumped…

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky ([hide]@adamholisky[/hide]), senior editor at WoW Insider, will be your host today.

For some odd reason I’m not terribly pumped for BlizzCon this year. I mean, I’m excited that I get to go to LA and see a bunch of awesome people I know, and I am pumped about the reader meetup (seriously, one of the best nights of the whole year). But BlizzCon itself? I don’t know… there just something missing in it for me right now. Maybe because I’ve been to the last few this one doesn’t seem like it’s going to rock my socks off, or maybe it’s because last year’s was pretty bland as far as WoW went.

Well, nonetheless, our reader meetup is going to rock. I really can’t wait for that. /excited.

Sarla asked:

Is recount really that big of a resource hog?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: I am not yet pumped..[/hide].Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: I am not yet pumped..[/hide]. originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 11:00:00 EST.

[hide][/hide] [hide][/hide]

Blood Pact: Encounter design, demonology, and tier 13

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

Patches are always trying times, more so for pure classes than any other. Hybrids benefit by generally only having a single DPS spec that Blizzard focuses on balancing; pures have to worry about which of their three specs is going to remain viable and scale well into the next raiding tier. While some of that is dependent upon the raw damage a spec is capable of putting out, many times the situation is far more complicated than that. Tier bonuses, encounter design, and gearing all play a vital role in determining which spec reigns supreme and which falls by the wayside.

We’ve talked before about all of these topics, but it’s time to focus that on how the game is shaping up for the next raid. While most of the encounter design is still slightly unknown to players, there are things that we do know and concerns that we have to be wary of. This week, we’ll take a look at what might be in store for demonology, the part that tier 13 plays in that, and how the bosses themselves will be the deciding factor.[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: Encounter design, demonology, and tier 13[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: Encounter design, demonology, and tier 13[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 15:00:00 EST. Gold Capped: Making gold on a high-population, high-competition server

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] and Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Feed Fox’s ego by [hide]emailing him[/hide], tweeting him at [hide]@foxvanallen[/hide], or by showing up in Los Angeles next weekend to give him some IRL love.

One of the most important points to remember when reading this or any other Gold Capped article is that advice that works well for one server’s economy won’t necessarily work for another. I can make money all day long selling [hide]Mysterious Fortune Cards[/hide] on my server, but on your server, you might find that there’s just no profit to be had in selling them — if they even sell at all.

Certainly, there are a lot of factors responsible for this. Individual sellers have individual personalities and individual strategies. But beyond this, whether or not you’re playing on a high-population server has a major effect on strategy as well. On one server, there may be 10 different people regularly trying to sell [hide]Flask of the Draconic Mind[/hide]. On another, there may be no sellers — because there aren’t any buyers. Server choice matters. A lot.

We’ll discuss the in and outs of both the low-population server and the high-population ones, because there are so many different strategies that work on one that don’t work well on another. This week, though, we’ll start with the most common scenario: The seller who find himself playing on a bustling server with what seems like an infinite amount of AH competition.[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Making gold on a high-population, high-competition server[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Economy[/hide], [hide]Gold Capped[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: Making gold on a high-population, high-competition server[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 18:00:00 EST. Spiritual Guidance: Holy priest stat weights revisited

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Spiritual Guidance[/hide] for [hide]discipline[/hide], [hide]holy[/hide] and [hide]shadow[/hide] priests. [hide]Dawn Moore[/hide] covers the healing side of things for discipline and holy priests. She also writes for [hide]LearnToRaid.com[/hide] and produces the [hide]Circle of Healing Podcast[/hide].

It’s been a pretty slow week for priest-related news, so it looks like I’ll finally be able to get back on schedule and finish my stat weight series. It’s funny how class news always sweeps through like a tornado, grabbing up everything in its path for a short time before disappearing. Personally, I’d prefer something more consistent, but I guess the only way Blizzard could manage that is do away with the other nine classes and change the game to World of Priestcraft. One class, 30 different specs («paladin» would be one of them), divided up between two factions: holy and shadow. It’d be like the Crusades, or Aion, except not as depressing as both of those were.[hide]Continue reading Spiritual Guidance: Holy priest stat weights revisited[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Priest[/hide], [hide](Priest) Spiritual Guidance[/hide][hide]Spiritual Guidance: Holy priest stat weights revisited[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 17:00:00 EST.
