Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 26

We’ve got another round of hotfixes this evening, courtesy of the official WoW blog. Today’s list is a little longer and contains the usual bout of Firelands hotfixes. Also included however, are a few class tweaks as well as some adjustments to Molten Front dailies and quests.

For elemental shaman, the Shamanism passive now causes Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and Lava Burst spells to gain an additional 32% benefit from spell power, up from 20%.

Hey warriors — Deep Wounds should no longer ignore damage modifiers on a target.

Players who die and release before a boss is killed should now receive Valor and Justice points. However — players that release at the moment the boss dies and are at the loading screen will become locked tot he dungeon, but won’t receive any currency for the kill. Blizzard’s working to address this.

In the Molten Front, players who are Hated or Hostile with the Steamwheedle Cartel can still turn in the quest Well Armed to Ricket. Bloodsail Admirals, rejoice!

Follow after the break for the full list of hotfixes.[hide]Continue reading Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 26[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Cataclysm[/hide], [hide]Hotfixes[/hide][hide]Patch 4.2 hotfixes for July 26[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 23:14:00 EST. Take a look at World of Warcraft: Bloodsworn comic preview art

If you like orcs getting stabbed in the neck with broken-off wooden objects (and who could blame you, really?), then the promotional art for the new [hide]World of Warcraft: Bloodsworn[/hide] comic should be for you. Artist Jeremy Raapack put up two pages of [hide]promo art[/hide] on his blog, talking about the reveal of the comic at SDCC. So far, it’s looking pretty sweet, and Bloodsworn should definitely focus more on the Horde side of things than the original comic series did.

I have to say I really enjoy this [hide]picture of a troll[/hide] from the comic. Granted, I can’t tell the story from these two pages at all, but the art’s solid and I’ll give it a chance for that reason alone.

Opt-out option incoming for recent authenticator security change

If you follow WoW account security, then you’ve probably heard about (or personally encountered) a [hide]recent change[/hide] to the way Battle.net authenticator devices work. Basically, when you log into the game, the client attempts to determine if you’re logging in from your «home» computer or at least a computer you use regularly. It uses several factors to make this determination, such as your MAC address and your IP address. If the information doesn’t indicate that the login is taking place from a safe machine, it’ll prompt you for your authenticator code. If it is a safe computer, then you’ll only be asked for your code randomly, once a week or so.

The change, aimed to make authenticators less of a hassle for those who log on from the same computer quite a bit, caused an odd uproar on the official forums from players who were worried that this change somehow made their account less secure. Addressing these concerns, Blizzard Community Manager Zarhym announced today that Blizzard is working on [hide]providing an opt-out option[/hide] for this convenience feature.

Details were scarce since, as Zarhym noted, Blizzard hasn’t quite nailed down specifics yet, but he assured players that it’s something Blizzard’s been looking into since the authenticator change was first announced.

The full announcement post and followups are after the break.[hide]Continue reading Opt-out option incoming for recent authenticator security change[/hide]Filed under: [hide]News items[/hide], [hide]Account Security[/hide][hide]Opt-out option incoming for recent authenticator security change[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 20:00:00 EST. Totem Talk: Restoration shaman, axes and mana concerns

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Totem Talk[/hide] for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide] and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. Want to be a sultan of swing healing? A champion of Chain Heal? Totem Talk: Restoration, brought to you by Joe Perez (otherwise known as Lodur from [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and co-host of the [hide]For the Lore[/hide] and [hide]Raid Warning[/hide] podcasts), shows you how.

For the last few weeks, we have been covering the various bosses of the Firelands raid. [hide]Beth’tilac and Rhyolith[/hide] were taken down, [hide]Shannox and Baleroc[/hide] have been toppled, [hide]Alysrazor and Majordomo Staghelm[/hide] were retired early. This week, though, will not be about Ragnaros — at least, not quite yet.

This week, I thought we could talk about a wonderful little zone drop and how it shapes up for restoration shaman. I also thought we could talk about the tier 12 two-piece set bonus for restoration shaman and how useful it is in heroic dungeon and raiding environments.[hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: Restoration shaman, axes and mana concerns[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: Restoration shaman, axes and mana concerns[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: What quest chains can you imagine on the big screen?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

If there is one thing that I absolutely hate about being a film student, it is that I cannot escape being a film student. See a movie? Rip it to shreds mentally by dissecting every little detail. Read a book? Visualize it as a film in my head, and make changes to the text to support the cinematic format. Everywhere I go, everyone I talk to, everything I do — all of it is viewed through «film goggles.»

This includes World of Warcraft. When I heard that they were planning a film, I was understandably hesitant, yet nonetheless optimistic. While WoW’s lore isn’t the cream of the fantasy crop, it is undeniably a pretty decent collection of stories and mythology. It is, while not as vast as Tolkien’s mythos, very expansive and covers a great deal of in-universe history. With all of this backstory, there are plenty of moments that would feel right at home on the big screen.

The problem is choosing just one. While it is likely that they will go for an original story, there are so many moments and stories in WoW’s universe — both the backstory and the in-game experience — that would be wonderful to witness in the full majesty of the silver screen. Most every large quest chain that I complete, I envision as some sort of film. My personal favorite candidate is the [hide]Cipher of Damnation[/hide] chain. It has all the makings of an epic fantasy tale — massive, world-threatening conflict (the elements and their unrest); the revelation of a grander scheme (Kael’thas having the Cipher at his disposal); a family with issues intertwined within the larger narrative (Oronok Torn-heart); an intense, heated finale (Cyrukh); and most importantly, one of the most scenic and (in its own way) beautiful settings the game has to offer.

When you play WoW, do you imagine the story on the big screen? What chain would you want to see Hollywood take on, assuming that they’d do it justice?

Tuesday Morning Post: Held in thrall edition

Happy Tuesday morning, everyone. This past week has been one of those weird ones where it’s not exactly quiet, but there were just a bunch of little interesting news stories vying for attention. It’s still not clear if any of them were «the big one,» but if I had to pick one, I might go with the San Diego Comic Con. Technically, all Blizzard did there was announce some new merchandise, but all the same, for us lore nerds, there were tasty little [hide]lore nuggets aplenty[/hide] to be gleaned. That said, If you really want WoW info out of a con, you’ll have to wait for BlizzCon. Luckily, the next one is coming up fast, and Blizzard’s just released a new [hide]official BlizzCon site[/hide].

If lore nuggets aren’t your thing, or if you prefer to stay spoiler free, have no fear. There’s plenty of other news for you to catch up on. Downtime this morning is from [hide]3 a.m. to 11 a.m. PDT[/hide] again, so why not take the time to read up? We have our usual roundup after the break.[hide]Continue reading Tuesday Morning Post: Held in thrall edition[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Realm Status[/hide], [hide]News items[/hide][hide]Tuesday Morning Post: Held in thrall edition[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 05:00:00 EST. Paragon рассказал о разнице рейдов Огненных Просторов на 10 и 25 человек

После [hide]победы над Рагнаросом[/hide] (гер.) самая сильная гильдия MMRORPG World of Warcraft [hide]DREAM Paragon[/hide] опубликовала статью, в которой сравнила сложность схваток в рейдах Огненных Просторов на 10 и 25 человек.

The Queue: Lore and the order of the novels

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky, senior editor of being hella awesome, will be your host today.

I love lore questions; they’re always fun to research and write answers too. I also like bugging people who know more about lore than I do, like Mat, Matt, and Anne. It’s a good time.

In fact, let’s start off with a lore question today — namely, where to go for more information and the chronological order of the books.

Levi asked:

I’ve always loved the Warcraft series and one of my favorite things is the lore, however, i’ve never read any of the books. I’ve decided to amend this travesty and start reading them but I want to read them in chronological order, just for the heck of it I guess. So my question is:

What is the chronological order of all the Warcraft novels?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Lore and the order of the novels[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Lore and the order of the novels[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 26 Jul 2011 11:00:00 EST.
