Ready Check: WoW Insider’s Guide to Alysrazor

[hide]Ready Check[/hide] helps you prepare yourself and your raid for the bosses that simply require killing. Check back with Ready Check each week for the latest pointers on killing adds, not standing in fire, and hoping for loot that won’t drop.

Greetings again, chaps. It is time once more to continue with our plans of invading the Firelands, snuffing out the vile Ragnaros, and securing everlasting peace upon Azeroth. At least until the next raiding tier comes out. This week, we’ll be taking down the newest additional to Ragnaros’ army, the green dragon turned fire hawk Alysrazor. Aided in battle by her newly spawned clutch of children and their druidic keepers, this bird is one hot mama. What, I’m not allowed to make corny jokes?

Whatever. If you think you have what it takes to face down a former green dragon, then read on, heroes. Epic loots await you! If you are interested in the prior bosses, look up WoW Insider’s guides to [hide]Shannox[/hide], [hide]Beth’tilac[/hide], and [hide]Lord Rhyolith[/hide]. Steel yourselves — it’s about to get hot.[hide]Continue reading Ready Check: WoW Insider’s Guide to Alysrazor[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Raiding[/hide], [hide]Ready Check (Raiding)[/hide][hide]Ready Check: WoW Insider’s Guide to Alysrazor[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 29 Jul 2011 18:00:00 EST. The Lawbringer: What World of Warcraft can learn from other microtransaction models, part 1

Pop law abounds in [hide]The Lawbringer[/hide], your weekly dose of WoW, the law, video games and the MMO genre. [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] takes you through the world running parallel to the games we love and enjoy, full of rules, regulations, pitfalls and traps. How about you hang out with us as we discuss some of the more esoteric aspects of the games we love to play?

[hide]Microtransactions[/hide] are here to stay. We were wary and scared in the beginning — it was a brave new world, having the gall to ask consumers for a couple of bucks for horse armor. [hide]DLC[/hide] (downloadable content) and microtransactions evolved over time to include better customization, new missions and levels, convenience purchases, and more. The industry began to shape itself around the growing need for better revenue models, as well as conforming to the needs and wants of players while remaining (hopefully) pure in motive.

With the huge success of the free-to-play model in the United States and Europe, a feat which many said was not going to go over too well outside of the Asian markets, paying for your game over time instead of up front has become a staple, an afterthought, to gamers.

World of Warcraft isn’t going true free-to-play any time soon, of course. The subscription model works for WoW in a fairly unique way. The number of global subscriptions for WoW make up such a huge, defined income that removing that income from the table in favor of the «5-percenters,» the people who presumably pay for items in-game, would be almost criminal in terms of corporate mismanagement — unless, of course, you could make more money on those 5-percenters than you do on 11.4 million monthly subscriptions, which seems like a hefty move to make.[hide]Continue reading The Lawbringer: What World of Warcraft can learn from other microtransaction models, part 1[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide]The Lawbringer[/hide][hide]The Lawbringer: What World of Warcraft can learn from other microtransaction models, part 1[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 29 Jul 2011 17:00:00 EST. Король-лич убит соло рыцарем смерти Mione

Известный рыцарь смерти по имени Mione в одиночку убил главного босса дополнения Wrath of the Lich King в MMORPG World of Warcraft после выхода патча 4.2.

European Battle.net Invitational 2011

Around Azeroth: Swamp blood

[hide][/hide]
«In recent months I’ve been feeling jaded by WoW,» writes [hide]Selieca[/hide] of [hide]Night Watch[/hide] on Terenas (EU-A). «It’s too easy to lose interest, to find other shiny things to do. But then, when doing something as everyday as waiting for a boat, WoW suddenly smacks you in the face with a moment like this. The scenery around Wetlands absolutely blew me away! I’ve walked through that place for the last five years whilst leveling various gnomes, but for some reason never remember it having that little extra magic. Maybe it’s the surgical-instrument-pink sky?»

World of WarCrafts: Lightly Fried Lurker

[hide]World of WarCrafts[/hide] spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music, fan fiction and more. Sample the whole spectrum on our [hide]Arts and Crafts in [/hide][hide]WoW[/hide] page.

Cataclysm brought about a whole host of world changes to Azeroth’s landscape, new talent trees to explore, and a ton of new quests and achievements. It also brought a whole ton of new recipes for aspiring Azerothian chefs and a bunch of new [hide]cooking achievements[/hide], to boot — achievements that involve a whole heck of a lot of recipes for fish, which is only appropriate since a ton of new [hide]fishing achievements[/hide] were added, too!

Some people love fish, some people hate it, and some chefs shy away from it, as it can be tricky to cook. But today’s recipe is one of the easiest dinner recipes out there. Not only is it simple, it’s delicious. This is actually a special recipe to me; it was my mother’s, and I have no idea where she got it from originally. But whenever my mother fried up fish, it disappeared in a flash; we kids could never get enough of it. Thankfully, the recipe was passed on to us, and now I am passing it on to all of you — deliciousness ought to be shared, after all. Let’s wander into the kitchen and make ourselves a fish dinner, shall we?

The OverAchiever: The gold coins of the Dalaran fountain

Every Thursday, [hide]The Overachiever[/hide] shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, we finally get the last damn coin.

In response to some questions from last week, yep — we’ll be heading for some Firelands achievements after this (and the conclusion of [hide]our Mountain O’ Mounts guide[/hide]), but I did want to finish our series on the Dalaran fountain first.

The gold coins are arguably the most interesting of the bunch, or at least they concern most of the more significant lore figures in the World of Warcraft universe. As before, getting all of the coins will grant you [hide]A Penny For Your Thoughts[/hide], [hide]Silver in the City[/hide], and [hide]There’s Gold in That There Fountain[/hide], with the completion of all three granting [hide]The Coin Master[/hide] and one more notch toward [hide]Accomplished Angler[/hide].

If you’re looking for our two previous installments concerning basic information on the achievements and full descriptions of the copper and silver coins, you’ll find those here:

WoW Moviewatch: Theory of a Death Knight Wants to be a Tuskarr

This is an odd video from [hide]Myndflame[/hide]. Essentially, [hide]Theory of a Death Knight[/hide] spells out at a news conference why he thinks tuskarr should be a playable race. As is customary for the poor death knight, he gets eaten by a dinosaur.

I’m not sure I completely agree with the logic proposed by Theory of a Death Knight, since I’m not sure hauling around a spare tire should be a virtue. But I definitely agree that the tuskarr should be playable, because having tusks on the Alliance side would be spectacular.

Interested in the wide world of [hide]machinima[/hide]? We have new movies every weekday here on [hide]WoW Moviewatch[/hide]! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at [hide]moviewatch@wowinsider.com[/hide].

The Queue: I have a WoW question for you, readers

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky, senior hops editor, will be your host today.

I’m turning the tables on you today. Let me ask you a question:

Know any good (or semi-good) Australian-time raiding guilds?

I’ve come to a point that it’s almost impossible for me to raid at night anymore (I think I signed the contract unknowingly when I proposed to the long-time girlfriend earlier this year), so a guild that raids down under would be perfect for me. I’ll buy you a few beers at our meetup if you leave me a suggestion that ends up working. And that’s LA-priced beers, too.

Jeremy asked:

Has anyone really speculated what will come in patch 4.3? Do you think blizzard will continue to release new heroics every other patch? Scattered Shots: Hunter pet changes — QQ or HTFU?

Every Thursday, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Scattered Shots[/hide] for [hide]beast mastery[/hide], [hide]marksmanship[/hide] and [hide]survival[/hide] hunters. Frostheim of [hide]Warcraft Hunters Union[/hide] uses logic and science (mixed with a few mugs of dwarven stout) to look deep into the hunter class. Mail your hunter questions to [hide]Frostheim[/hide].

Today’s header video is a sneak peek at the hunter class in patch 7.3, after the implementation of dual wielding and after minimum range is finally removed from the game. It also looks like we get a melee disarm, which I agree would be nice. Pillar humping is clearly still a vital arena strategy, however. This look at the awesomeness to come should help soften the pain of the unpleasant subject of today’s column.

The hunter pet stance changes blow.

There’s just no sugarcoating it; the changes to pet stances simply make our lives worse than they were before. If you want to hand me a petition to repeal the changes, I will happily sign it. However, it seems likely the changes are something that we’re just going to have to put up with, like ads to [hide]buy gold online[/hide], fake [hide]sparkle pony[/hide] phishing emails, and the continued [hide]existence of elves[/hide]. So, too, must we apparently suck it up and deal with increasingly unruly pets that need a stronger guiding hand.

Join me after the cut as we discuss the changes in more depth and ask the question of what is to be done about it. Do we hunters try to wail up a paladin-like storm of QQ in hopes of effecting a change, or is it something deliberate and we just have to HTFU?[hide]Continue reading Scattered Shots: Hunter pet changes — QQ or HTFU[/hide]?Filed under: [hide]Hunter[/hide], [hide](Hunter) Scattered Shots[/hide][hide]Scattered Shots: Hunter pet changes — QQ or HTFU[/hide]? originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 28 Jul 2011 16:00:00 EST.
