Breakfast Topic: How do you blend marriage and playing WoW?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

My husband and I have both been playing WoW for several years. He was playing before me, then I got hooked. We take turns surpassing each other in levels and achievements. We like to roll starter toons together and try to choose complementary classes. We both belong to the same guild. Although the WoW portion of our relationship tends to be pretty harmonious, we have each been known to occasionally roll anonymous characters on a different server to get a little bit of quiet time.

WoW is something we both love, although we each tend to focus on different aspects of the game, and it’s always good for a conversation topic when we don’t feel like talking about what the heck we’re going to do about the kids or griping about our jobs. We communicate our in-game plans, and when one of us wants to raid, we schedule it so that the other one is available to deal with any kid-related crises that come up.

Does your spouse or partner play the game? How do you guys make it work? Do you take turns, or do you spend every online moment together as a team? Are you competitive and try to constantly outdo each other, or are you as lovey online as you are in real life?

Totem Talk: Ask a restoration shaman (again)

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Totem Talk[/hide] for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide] and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. Want to be a sultan of swing healing? A champion of Chain Heal? Totem Talk: Restoration, brought to you by Joe Perez (otherwise known as Lodur from [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and co-host of the [hide]For the Lore[/hide] and [hide]Raid Warning[/hide] podcasts), shows you how.

Last week we talked about [hide]shaman with axes[/hide] and a little bit about the restoration shaman two-piece bonus from tier 12 gear. The last week has certainly been a busy one for most folks. With the video now out for DREAM Paragon’s [hide]25-man heroic Ragnaros kill[/hide] and an idea of their group’s raid composition, it has been a week of speculation and debate.

There’s one thing that always will remain constant — there are always more questions to be answered! This week, we’ll be taking reader questions that have come in through comments, [hide]Twitter[/hide] or [hide]email[/hide] in another installment of [hide]Ask a Restoration Shaman[/hide]![hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: Ask a restoration shaman (again)[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: Ask a restoration shaman (again)[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 02 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST. Reader UI of the Week: Recover from corruption with Icewalker

[hide][/hide]
Each week, WoW Insider and [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] bring you a fresh look at [hide]reader-submitted UIs[/hide] as well as [hide]Addon Spotlight[/hide], which spotlights the latest user interface addons. Have a screenshot of your own UI that you’d like to submit? Send your screenshots along with info on what mods you’re using to [hide]readerui@wowinsider.com[/hide], and [hide]follow Mathew[/hide] on Twitter.

Reader UI is no stranger to UI crashes and corruption issues. Believe me, I’ve had my fair share of UI crashes that completely and utterly obliterated my entire setup. It is a sad state of affairs when your settings just decide to up and leave on you. Not fun, right?

Losing your user interface in a crash or through some corruption issue is annoying and demoralizing, to be sure. However, rebuilding usually takes less time than you think and sometimes adds new and unique aspects to your UI that weren’t there before. In destruction comes organized rebirth, or something like that.

Icewalker sent in his UI with the sad tale of UI failure and starting over, which I felt for. Poor, innocent UIs getting corrupted, probably from Old God influence, just puts me in a bad mood. So today, we will take a look at Icewalker’s new, basic UI and grieve together for all of those user interfaces lost in senseless crashes and the wanton ways of home computing.[hide]Continue reading Reader UI of the Week: Recover from corruption with Icewalker[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Add-Ons[/hide], [hide]Reader UI of the Week[/hide][hide]Reader UI of the Week: Recover from corruption with Icewalker[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 02 Aug 2011 17:00:00 EST. Officers’ Quarters: Raiding without characters

Every Monday, Scott Andrews contributes [hide]Officers’ Quarters[/hide], a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. He is the author of [hide]The Guild Leader’s Handbook[/hide], available now from [hide]No Starch Press[/hide].

A question for the readership: How important is it to you that the players you raid with are interesting and engaging people? Is it essential, or merely a bonus?

This week, a raid leader complains that his guildmates are [hide]boring[/hide] — to the point that he’s considering leaving the guild altogether. He wants to know what he can do to inject some much-needed personality into the guild.

Hi Scott

I read your column regularly and find it very insightful. I have implemented various pieces of advice within my guild to varying degrees of success so thank you for this. Now however its my turn to pose a question.

How do you create a guild with character? Let me explain this a bit with some history. I have been raid leader for my guild for the last 7-8 months and in the last 2 I inherited the GM tag as he didn’t have much time to play. I was practically doing all the work anyway so this wasn’t an issue. My issue is two fold, firstly I don’t think I really like anyone in the guild apart from one person. And secondly it seems like I play with a bunch of automatons. This isn’t to say I dislike anyone but its just they all seem to lack any sort of character and wouldn’t say boo to a goose![hide]Continue reading Officers’ Quarters: Raiding without characters[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Officers’ Quarters (Guild Leadership)[/hide][hide]Officers’ Quarters: Raiding without characters[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 14:00:00 EST. Spiritual Guidance: How to play an Atonement priest

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Spiritual Guidance[/hide] for [hide]discipline[/hide], [hide]holy[/hide] and [hide]shadow[/hide] priests. [hide]Dawn Moore[/hide] isn’t here this week, and [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] is just being his usual shadowy stuff. Instead, you’re stuck with [hide]Matt «Matticus» Low[/hide] of [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and [hide]Plus Heal[/hide]!

Playing a discipline priest is all the rage these days, it seems, especially now that many raiders are busy messing around in Firelands. There is a small selection of discipline priests who exercise the Atonement and Evangelism style of healing to great effect. In the past, I wasn’t really a fan of it at all because I felt that there were better options. The buffs Blizzard made to [hide]Atonement[/hide] [hide]back in patch 4.1 involving Holy Fire[/hide] made it increasingly more attractive. Maybe I didn’t give it enough of a chance.

So the past few weeks, I’ve been trying to master this style of play. It isn’t easy, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for a priest who is new to the game or new to raiding. This week, I’ll share with you a few tricks about what I learned and picked up.[hide]Continue reading Spiritual Guidance: How to play an Atonement priest[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Priest[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide](Priest) Spiritual Guidance[/hide][hide]Spiritual Guidance: How to play an Atonement priest[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 20:00:00 EST. Gold Capped: How the heck do you price a Chaos Orb?

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] and Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Feed Fox’s ego by [hide]emailing him[/hide] or tweeting him at [hide]@foxvanallen[/hide].

We’re eight months deep into the current expansion, and still, [hide]Chaos Orbs[/hide] remain bind on pickup items available only by running dailies. You can’t buy them with valor points. You can’t buy them on the auction house. You can’t hand them from one player to another.

That creates a challenge for someone who’s using a trade skill to make an epic piece of gear for someone else. There’s no quick and simple way to find the value of a Chaos Orb, but for sure, they do have a definite value. And to get the most money out of your profession, you need to know exactly what that value is.[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: How the heck do you price a Chaos Orb[/hide]?Filed under: [hide]Economy[/hide], [hide]Gold Capped[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: How the heck do you price a Chaos Orb[/hide]? originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 19:00:00 EST. Blood Pact: Quashing misleading rumors about warlocks

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

Rumor has it, dearest warlocks, that we’re pretty much the best pure caster class in this raiding tier. Now I’m not one to give in to such hearsay, but there’s a pretty reliable source to support it. That said, I think it is safe to say that this is one thing that we all pretty much knew. Despite that, there are still other whisperings going around the DPS water cooler that need to be put out of their misery. This week, we’re going to talk about some of those things that you may have heard in passing by, possibly even from a pretty reliably source, that simply aren’t true (or aren’t quite as true as those supporting them would have you believe).

If you recall, as few weeks ago, I went into a few tips and tricks for warlocks to adhere to during their [hide]adventures into the Firelands[/hide]. Predominantly, the focus there was on staying alive. Those suggestions should always be taken to heart. Staying alive is always the best policy — but there are times when it’s killing things that you’re really interested in. Let’s get started on those tactics.[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: Quashing misleading rumors about warlocks[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: Quashing misleading rumors about warlocks[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 01 Aug 2011 16:00:00 EST.
