Raid Rx: The power of audio cues

Every week, [hide]Raid Rx[/hide] will help you quarterback your healers to victory! Your host is [hide]Matt Low[/hide], the grand poohbah of [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and a founder of [hide]Plus Heal[/hide], a discussion community for healers of all experience levels and interests. Catch his weekly podcast on healing, raiding and leading, the [hide]Matticast[/hide].

I have a hypothesis I’d like to share, and I’d love to hear your take about this in the comments. Healers react better to sound as opposed to visual cues on the screen. We should embrace this. Now, this isn’t to say we need to clutter Mumble with various players calling out different abilities. There are a few addons out there (such as [hide]GTFO[/hide]) that make use of sound indicators whenever you’re standing in something you shouldn’t be standing in.

Healers have a heavy responsibility to:

Oversee the raid.

Watch the ground they’re standing on.

Remove or mitigate boss buffs or debuffs.

Constantly range check their healing assignments (like tanks).

Gauge the timing of mechanics or phases.

Used cooldowns (depending who you are).

I’d like to think most of us can handle that simply by staring at the screen. With the assortment of timers and other visual addons, we’re exposed to a plethora of information used to feed us information. The sad part is that it can be extremely overwhelming, to the point that we don’t know what to do next. That split-second decision could be the wrong move because we reacted to something that wasn’t as important. For example, I may have cast [hide]Prayer of Healing[/hide] on the group, but I would not have done that if I had realized earlier that the boss did his super move, causing a death to a tank or another player.[hide]Continue reading Raid Rx: The power of audio cues[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide]Paladin[/hide], [hide]Priest[/hide], [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide]Raid Rx (Raid Healing)[/hide][hide]Raid Rx: The power of audio cues[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 13:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: My Dearest SteaksOnSpear

[hide]Bloodvein[/hide] created [hide]My Dearest SteaksOnSpear[/hide] as a response to a commenter. This video is odd. It’s very odd. I was hypnotized by it. I have no explanation for why this video made me laugh out loud and giggle like a madman, but I did. Maybe it’s the idea of a blood elf with a hairy chest, or maybe it’s that same chest having a prison tattoo.

While this response is intended as a way for Bloodvein to interact with his fans, I was blown away by the quality of animation and art. Bloodvein shows off some impressive technical skills in this video, even if it’s just for the sake of some sight gags and shout-outs.

My Dearest seems to be an ongoing series, though, so drop by and leave a YouTube comment. Who knows? You might get the next My Dearest response.

The Queue: Save me, Blitzcrank!

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] will be your host today. Click my name! Click it! CLICK IT.

This is a warning to all you uppity Queue-goers. I’ve written you a nice, juicy Queue to sink your teeth into. I combed the questions and your nerdity to answer some good questions. But I don’t take no lip. So if you want some, you’ll have to get some from my buddy [hide]Blitzcrank[/hide] over here. (Please do not actually come after me; I am but a humble servant to you and The Queue.)

[hide]League of Legends: Dominion[/hide] looks like so much fun.

AdamAldaine asked:

What exactly constitutes a «hero class»? I haven’t read a definition that makes it clear. I thought it was a class that could fill all three roles, but that’s about the only thing I’ve been able to determine that it is not.[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Save me, Blitzcrank![/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Save me, Blitzcrank![/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 11:00:00 EST. World of WarCrafts: How to make Lynnora’s decorative Horde pendant

[hide]World of WarCrafts[/hide] spotlights art and creativity by WoW players, including fan art, cooking, comics, cosplay, music, fan fiction and more. Sample the whole spectrum on our [hide]Arts and Crafts in [/hide][hide]WoW[/hide] page.

I love getting submissions for World of WarCrafts, especially do-it-yourself projects! Today’s submission is from [hide]Lynnora[/hide] of the Silvermoon server (EU-A). Longtime readers of World of WarCrafts may recall the name from a column on [hide]bleach T-shirts[/hide] a couple of years ago. Lynnora’s still crafting away and comes to us this week with a how-to for a simple project that anyone can complete — a Horde pendant suitable for a necklace, keychain, or whatever your imagination can come up with!

What makes this project so easy? Well, the materials to make it, for starters: plastic bags. Say what? That’s right, we’ve got a new use for those plastic bags hanging around your house, a technique called fusing. Check out the gallery for a visual step-by-step, and follow us after the break for the full tutorial from Lynnora!

Cataclysm Post-Mortem: Deepholm

[hide][/hide]
[hide]Alex Ziebart[/hide] and [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] (that’s me) decided to give each Cataclysm zone the once-over now that we’re many months out from the release of the expansion. In this post-mortem series, we’ll examine what worked and what didn’t work in terms of story, quests, and overall feel for the zones and the cool moments that dotted the landscape.

The Earthen Plane. [hide]Therazane’s domain[/hide]. The place where primordial rock and earth and stone were banished after the Titans subdued the elemental lords and their Old God masters. Deepholm is where Deathwing laid his broken body and waited, watched, heaved, and went mad. In the center of the mighty plane of earth stood the [hide]World Pillar[/hide], the only support keeping Deepholm from crashing into Azeroth itself. When Deathwing unleashed himself upon the world, the World Pillar shattered. Only through the tireless and diligent efforts of the Earthen Ring, shaman from all walks of life and races, could the tear in the Maelstrom be contained. Now flooded by members of the Twilight’s Hammer cult, a raging war between earthen and trogg, and the harshness of the Stonemother herself, the Horde and the Alliance must find a way to restore the World Pillar and save Azeroth from the very plane of earth it rests upon.

Deepholm was the first bottleneck zone after the two opening Cataclysm leveling experiences, Hyjal and Vashj’ir. Everyone passed through Deepholm on the way to 85, getting to experience one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring zones ever created for World of Warcraft. From the rocks that hung eerily in the air to the various factions and allegiances, Deepholm provided one of the most unique leveling experiences in World of Warcraft to date.[hide]Continue reading Cataclysm Post-Mortem: Deepholm[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Cataclysm Post-Mortem: Deepholm[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST. Gold Capped: Inventory balancing in TradeSkillMaster

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen aims to show you how to make money on the auction house. [hide]Email Basil[/hide] with your questions, comments, or hate mail!

[hide]TradeSkillMaster[/hide] is the most powerful addon used to automate crafting and batch posting, and today, we’ll be learning how to fine-tune the number of items created based on your selling history. Generally, when you started using TSM, you set up a default number of items for each trade skill group that you wanted it to keep in stock. For example, I told it to:

Always craft enough scrolls that I had two on the auction house when they were profitable.

Always craft enough of each meta-gem cut to ensure that I always had three on the AH when they were profitable.

Now when I hit the Restock Queue button in enchanting or jewelcrafting, it queues up enough stock to bring my inventory levels to two scrolls or three gems. What if I invested in some recipe I sell a lot more of, though?[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Inventory balancing in TradeSkillMaster[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Economy[/hide], [hide]Gold Capped[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: Inventory balancing in TradeSkillMaster[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 17:00:00 EST. WoW Rookie: How to record game footage on a Mac

New around here? [hide]WoW Rookie[/hide] has your back! Get all our collected tips, tricks and tactics for new players in the [hide]WoW Rookie Guide[/hide]. WoW Rookie is about more than just being new to the game; it’s about checking out new classes, new playstyles, and new zones.

World of Warcraft has a particularly cool feature on Macs that doesn’t exist on its Windows PC counterparts. If you play WoW on a Mac, you can record video in the game itself without the help of any third-party program. This isn’t a fancy, complicated video, but it’s a great first step toward making your own machinima, instructional videos, or fun films to share with friends.

Recording game footage through your Mac isn’t difficult. When you’re getting ready to create video, make sure you have your game set up the way you’d like it. Are the graphics right? Are all of your addons in order? Trust me: People care about your UI setup when they see game footage, and it will matter to them. Once you have those things in order, it’s time to get started.[hide]Continue reading WoW Rookie: How to record game footage on a Mac[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Rookie[/hide][hide]WoW Rookie: How to record game footage on a Mac[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 04 Aug 2011 15:00:00 EST.
