The Light and How to Swing It: Tanking Beth’tilac and Rhyolith

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]The Light and How to Swing It[/hide] for [hide]holy[/hide], [hide]protection[/hide] and [hide]retribution[/hide] paladins. Protection specialist Matt Walsh spends most of his time receiving concussions for the benefit of 24 other people, obsessing over his hair (a blood elf racial!), and maintaining the tankadin-focused blog [hide]Righteous Defense[/hide].

In previous columns, I’ve talked about how to tank Shannox and Baleroc, two of the early bosses of Firelands. Three bosses remain before you can cross the bridge to the Sulfuron Keep: Beth’tilac, Rhyolith, and Alysrazor.

That latter of the three demands a column of her own, considering the nuances of that fight and the special requirements and responsibilities one assumes when tanking it. But the first two — a walk in the park, comparatively speaking. Despite the general breeziness when tanking them, they still have their own slate of nuances. Allow me to offer a raft of tips to make your tanking duties as breezy as they should be.[hide]Continue reading The Light and How to Swing It: Tanking Beth’tilac and Rhyolith[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Paladin[/hide], [hide](Paladin) The Light and How to Swing It[/hide][hide]The Light and How to Swing It: Tanking Beth’tilac and Rhyolith[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 19:00:00 EST. Shifting Perspectives: Murmurs’ moonkin Twitter feed!

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide] , [hide]bear[/hide] , [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. Balance news comes at you every Friday — learn how to master the forces of nature, and know what it means to be a giant laser turkey! Send questions, comments, or something you’d like to see to [hide]tyler@wowinsider.com[/hide].

I haz a [hide]Twitters[/hide]! Like most everyone else these days, I too am a part of the social revolution that is sweeping the globe. Originally I was against the idea, but I’ve been a part of this network for some time now and I figured that it was finally the time to put that fact to work.

This week, I’ll be pulling questions from some of my followers on Twitter.

@xvkarbear Should I be waiting to pop starfall until I have a lunar eclipse? Use mushrooms during solar eclipse?[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: Murmurs’ moonkin Twitter feed![/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: Murmurs’ moonkin Twitter feed![/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST. The Guild, Season 5, Episode 02: Crash Pad is a convention nightmare

Episode 2 of the fifth season of [hide]The Guild[/hide], [hide]Felicia Day[/hide]’s webseries about an unlikely bunch of MMO gamers and their wacky hijinks in and out of game, released this week.

The Knights of Good have finally made it to the gaming convention but, as usual, things don’t go very well for them. Everyone has to share the same room at the hotel (been there), with Zaboo sleeping under a coffee table (done that). Bladezz’s shower spying and Vork’s (amazing as usual) food theft are high moments. I am excited for more convention antics in the coming weeks.

The Guild has been hitting its stride in the past few seasons, and it remains a quality watch. Check out this week’s episode, with new episodes hitting Xbox Live on Tuesdays and MSN video on Thursdays.

Around Azeroth: Once in a blue moon

[hide][/hide]
Many people have seen this [hide]primitive painting[/hide] on a rock near Thunder Bluff. The horse is pretty standard for this sort of thing, although a little out of place — since when have there been horses in Mulgore? But what about those hoofprints off to the left? As always, Mad Men has the answer. I was rewatching the first season on Netflix the other night and caught this little vignette between Harry Crane and Don Draper regarding the Lascaux cave paintings.

Harry: The bison get all the attention, but there are also all of these [hide]handprints[/hide]. Tiny by today’s standards, with paint blown all around them.

Don: Signature of the artist.

Harry: But I thought it was… like someone reaching through the stone, right to us. «I was here.»

The walking cows were here. (Thanks to Dactyl for the screenshot!)

Ready Check: WoW Insider’s Guide to Baleroc, the Gatekeeper

[hide]Ready Check[/hide] helps you prepare yourself and your raid for the bosses that simply require killing. Check back with Ready Check each week for the latest pointers on killing adds, not standing in fire, and hoping for loot that won’t drop.

Greetings again, raiders! If you have been following along thus far, then you know that we’ve pushed rather deep into Ragnaros’ territory. Already, we’ve defeated the great hunter [hide]Shannox[/hide], the queen of spiders [hide]Beth’tilac[/hide], the vicious [hide]Lord Rhyolith[/hide], and the treacherous [hide]Alysrazor[/hide]. With the first four of Ragnaros’ supporters dead, we now focus on making our way into the heart of the Sulfuron Spire itself. Only one obstacle stands in our way: the Gatekeeper Baleroc.

Wielding his twin devastating swords, Baleroc is no pushover. This encounter will test the resolve of both your healers and your DPS as you race against a tight enrage timer while combating insurmountable tank damage. No joke —your tanks will be taking this in the millions on this encounter, so you’d better prepare yourselves, heroes. This journey is just getting started.[hide]Continue reading Ready Check: WoW Insider’s Guide to Baleroc, the Gatekeeper[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Raiding[/hide], [hide]Ready Check (Raiding)[/hide][hide]Ready Check: WoW Insider’s Guide to Baleroc, the Gatekeeper[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 05 Aug 2011 09:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: How does a guild win you over?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

When it comes to real (i.e., non-trade-chat-spamming) guilds, some people complain about the process. «It’s like finding a job,» or «There’s so much drama involved that I just stopped trying.» Often times, I find it easier to compare finding guilds to dating.

For example, one guild got me to join by slowly wooing me. They invited me to dungeon runs, PMed me just to chat, waved at me in at the auction house, and generally just made me feel like a guildmate before popping the question. It was so romantic … until I found out that the leaders weren’t treating their allies the same way.

I was stolen from another guild when the former guild started to treat people badly, both guild members and members of the server. In vanilla WoW, we ran raids with two other guilds. One of those guilds’ officers was my first PVP victim in another game (but it was an epic hunt). Another officer and I were co-class leaders who bonded over ninja-AFKing bio breaks when we were supposed to be instructing our underlings on things we’d already gotten them to do — oh, and having a very open guild system, as opposed to «the guild leader is God; obey his commands.» When the ship was ready to sink, I knew who to ask for a lifeboat.

More often than not, though, I’ve hit my server forums or even popular fan sites to see who’s active in the community and whose guild structure seems to fit my needs the best.

How have guilds won you over? Did you date? Were you mutual friends first? Or was it something you found in [hide]The Classifieds[/hide]?

Blizzard не против гемблинга в WoW

На американских официальных форумах MMORPG World of Warcraft представитель Blizzard Entertainment [hide]разъяснил[/hide] политику компании в отношении казино и других азартных видов досуга.

General

Balloon pets can no longer be sold to vendors.
Flight points in Outlands should correctly display for characters created after the release of patch 4.2.
Classes

Melee auto-attacks should properly trigger trinkets.
Druid Primal Fury is correctly triggered when Rake gets a critical hit, and is putting an extra combo point on the target.
Starfall should no longer strike targets with which the druid is not in combat.

Hunter

Burning Adrenaline is properly removing the focus cost of Arcane Shot.

Rogue

Mutilate should now properly trigger trinkets.

Warrior

Deep Wounds should no longer incorrectly apply double damage when certain buffs are present on the warrior.

Dungeons & Raids

Blackrock Spire

The Scarshield Quartermaster is properly flagged as a quest NPC and not a rare spawn.

Firelands

Burning Orb attack range has been increased for the Majordomo Staghelm encounter.
The criteria for the achievement Do a Barrel Roll! reset properly after a failed attempt on Alysrazor.
Smoldering Essences are now properly applied to Firelands bosses and can be syphoned, even if the only raid member that is on step 13 of the legendary quest line dies during the encounter.
Players should never get Rage of Ragnaros on Heroic difficulty. Rage of Ragnaros will only be given on normal difficulty if someone on the legendary quest line has 250 shards. Heart of Flame should always be given on Heroic difficulty, even if a player doesn’t have Rage of Ragnaros, but does have 250 shards.

The Val’kyr will again despawn after the Lich King reaches 10% health. If they are in the process of carrying a player, they will first drop them to the ground before leaving.

Zul’Farrak

Player should no longer be unable to open the gates to complete the dungeon due to NPC allies dying during the troll invasion event.
The Zul’farrak Zombies and Skeletons of Zum’rah, associated with Witch Doctor Zum’rah, now clean up properly when the encounter is reset or the boss dies.

Items

The weapon speed of the Masterwork Elementium Deathblade has been reduced to 3.5, down from 3.8.
Ricket’s Magnetic Fireball now shares a burst cooldown with other on-use trinkets.
Unheeded Warning now grants 1926 attack power, instead of 680 weapon damage.

Item Sets

The Burning Treant and Fiery Imp pets summoned by the Balance druid and warlock tier-12 sets now have reduced damage taken from area-of-effect spells, consistent with other combat pets.
The Smoldering Rune buff from the death knight tier-12 2-piece set bonus is now properly cleared off of the character if he/she does not have the set bonus the next time it ticks for runic power.
The Spirit buff gained from the 4-piece priest tier-11 set will be lost if the priest casts any spell or uses any ability while not wearing the set.
The warrior tier-12 4-piece damage-dealing set bonus is now properly activating, even if a Mortal Strike or Raging Blow attack is fully absorbed.

PvP

Strand of the Ancients

Stampeding Roar (druid spell) no longer grants a speed boost to Demolishers.

Quests & Creatures

Hyjal Regrowth & Molten Front

Molten Lords should no longer stay tapped by the first player who damages them while on the bombing run for the quest Fire in the Skies.
