All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for Troll roleplayers

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. In World of Warcraft, that player is you! Each week, [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] brings you [hide]All the World’s a Stage[/hide] with helpful hints, tips and tricks on the art of roleplay in WoW.

Trolls are interesting characters to roleplay. There are a few major reasons why Trolls are at the top of my list for roleplay. First and foremost is the fact that for all the Trolls in Azeroth and all the story we’ve been given about all the various Troll tribes, there’s not a lot of real information out there in terms of day-to-day Troll life. Traditions, ceremonies, tribal bonds — it’s all sort of a mystery. Yet the sheer amount of culture we’ve been given is just enough to play with, within the context of what little we know. Storytellers, practitioners of voodoo, the kaleidoscope of Loa and their relation to the Ancients — it’s all up in the air to fiddle around with.

The other reason Trolls are just so entertaining is that they’ve come so far from so little. In vanilla, the Trolls seemed like a vague addition to the Horde, with no capital city of their own and very little in the way of backstory. Troll reputation vendors were placed in Orgrimmar, where the Trolls had a tiny corner of the city to call their own. Vol’jin sat in Thrall’s chambers and never really did much of anything. When Cataclysm was announced and events started coming out in preparation for the expansion, the Darkspear got a huge jolt of storyline, with elements that can and should affect every roleplayer.[hide]Continue reading All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for Troll roleplayers[/hide]Filed under: [hide]All the World’s a Stage (Roleplaying)[/hide][hide]All the World’s a Stage: Plot points for Troll roleplayers[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Sun, 21 Aug 2011 20:00:00 EST.

Blizzard Entertainment.

На официальных форумах MMORPG World of Warcraft представитель компании Blizzard Entertainment [hide]ответил[/hide] на вопросы игроков по поводу новой функции «[hide]трансмогрификация[/hide]», которая появится в игре в патче 4.3:

— ограничений на изменение внешнего вида PvE-предметов в PvP не будет;

— для превращения одного оружия в другое они должны совпадать по их типу (правая рука, левая рука, одноручное и т.п.);

— внешний вид фамильных вещей изменять будет нельзя, а некоторые прикрепленные к учетной записи предметы (например, редкие археологические находки) можно;

— нельзя изменять ни внешний вид легендарных предметов, ни придать их вид другому оружию (по крайней мере – в момент запуска услуги);

— трансмогрифицировать экипировку можно только по типу брони (ткань – в ткань) и только ту, которую персонаж может надеть;

— носить комплекты Т3, недоступные к получению в настоящее время, и им подобные будет непросто: для изменения вида их нужно иметь в инвентаре персонажа;

— пока можно менять только предметы с параметрами, но в будущем Blizzard расширит возможности трансмогрификации.

The Guild Season 5, Episode 4: Ends and Begins

If you’re familiar with the many flavors of social awkwardness that convention season brings to the fore (and with BlizzCon around the corner, you may be about to experience some of it) then the [hide]fourth episode of Season 5[/hide] of [hide]The Guild[/hide] is a love letter to you. It has special guest appearances by [hide]Brent Spiner[/hide] and [hide]Grant Imahara[/hide], plus you’ll get to watch people doing all the astonishingly painfully awkward things people do at conventions, like dress up like a pirate and mouth off, try to start a relationship, or wear skimpy Princess Leia outfits.

Seriously, why are you still here? I did tell you Brent Spiner was in this, didn’t I?

WRUP: Make it work, columnists

[hide][/hide]
Every week, just at the start of the weekend, we catch up with the WoW Insider staff and ask them, «What are you playing this week?» — otherwise known as [hide]WRUP[/hide]. Join us to see what we’re up to in and out of game, and catch us in the comments to let us know what you’re playing, too!

In WoW, just as in the fashion world, one day you are in, and the next … you are out.

All right, designers. This week, we learned the new [hide]transmogrification feature[/hide] coming in patch 4.3 will let us revisit World of Warcraft fashion trends of the past. And that’s your inspiration for this week’s challenge: You have until midnight to create a post-4.3 look for any level 85 character that says, «I’m here, I’m tier, and I’m fabulous!»

Already, though, this shirtless paladin outfit here worries me. We’re so close to the deadline, and it just looks … unfinished. [hide]Barbaric Loincloth[/hide]? Frankly, he looks like a homeless Abercrombie model.

And this other paladin … is this [hide]Judgement[/hide] tier? I’m concerned. It’s a little … stumbled home from Blackwing Lair at 3 a.m., don’t you think?

[takes a long, lengthy, silent look]

I’ll leave you alone.[hide]Continue reading WRUP: Make it work, columnists[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Insider Business[/hide][hide]WRUP: Make it work, columnists[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 19 Aug 2011 21:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: What was your first addon?

I had played the game for several months before I even realized such a thing as an addon existed. I came from a predominantly console-based gaming background, and the idea of an outside mod that could fundamentally alter or enhance the game I was playing was a completely new concept for me. It wasn’t long before I ran into somebody who told me I ought to get [hide]Decursive[/hide] to help me remove curses on my mage, and I remember asking this stranger, «de-whaty-what?»

He educated me about the mod a bit before the end of our dungeon run, and I promptly ran out and downloaded the thing, unzipped it into my interface/addons folder, and logged in to see what all the fuss was about. Lo and behold, it added a set of small buttons to my interface that, when clicked, cast Remove Lesser Curse on one of my poor, curse-riddled allies. (Remember when Remove Lesser Curse was called that? I always wondered where all the greater curses were.) I was blown away. This was infinitely easier than the clunky default interface! I immediately logged out, started perusing addon sites for other useful mods, and never looked back. Now my interface has evolved so far beyond the default that it’s probably only one or two modifications away from identifying mankind as a threat and ending us all in a fiery hellstorm.

What was your first addon, and what prompted you to download it? Or are you one of the spartan warriors who insist on playing mod-free, as the good lord intended?

Around Azeroth: Return from whence you came

[hide][/hide]
Dragon magnet! «This is the best shot I could find of my screenies from Wednesday night on Eredar,» writes [hide]Fecklar[/hide] of [hide]Para Los Muertos[/hide] on Eredar (US-H). «Kalecgos showed up in Orgrimmar as someone turned in their final piece for [hide]Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest[/hide]. Lots of flying mounts attended — even some Allies were flying about taking a peek. It felt pretty epic. Our guild had just finished up our fishing requirement for the [hide]Seafood Magnifique[/hide] and were buying the recipe from the guild vendor when Kalecgos starts his speech, so our achievement was slightly overshadowed.»
