The Queue: Some notes …

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.

Everyone should go read Matt Rossi’s [hide]Know Your Lore: Brotherhood of the Horse[/hide]. Somehow I managed to schedule it at 6 a.m. yesterday instead of 6 p.m. I blame my cat. He was annoying me during my morning routines.

In other news, did you know that [hide]Mat McCurley[/hide] and [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] will be hosting our live meetup at BlizzCon? [hide]Mike Sacco[/hide] and [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] will be hosting our live podcast that night, as well. Should be tons of fun! We’ll be announcing the meetup details soon, so stay tuned.

JTrack3d asked:

Does Blizzard count it against you for submitting tickets against other players violating ToS?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Some notes ..[/hide].Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Some notes ..[/hide]. originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 01 Sep 2011 11:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: Epilogue Some Months Later

While nothing directly indicates that [hide]RetPallyJill’s[/hide] newest video is a direct sequel to [hide]Southshore[/hide], it definitely feels like the loose ends are tied up in [hide]Epilogue Some Months Later[/hide]. The video is made primarily out of in-game footage, with a few effects to spice up the action. The majority of the tale is told through voiceover narration.

I was surprised how well the story reflected genuine human emotion and behavior. This might sound like a weird thing to say, but the character is easy to identify and sympathize with. Jill’s narration was equally good, doing a solid job of conveying the story and inclination. All in all, this video was good stuff, and I’m happy to see it.

Patch 4.3: Worgen racial mounts

Blizzard has [hide]finally seen fit[/hide] to give Worgen players — or more specifically, the Gilnean faction — their own mounts. Worgen originally had no racial mount because of their innate ability [hide]Running Wild[/hide], which allowed the Worgen to be their own mounts, dropping to all fours and moving at mount speed. The new Gilnean mounts appear to be unarmored horses coming in brown and grey colors. It is presumed that players will be able to purchase these mounts if they are exalted with the Gilnean faction, much like how other factions’ mounts work.

Players were torn over Running Wild, mostly because each mount collected counts toward the achievement [hide]Mountain o’ Mounts[/hide], which rewards a Red or Blue Dragonhawk to fly around on. Many Alliance players were upset over the fact that Horde players had an easier time collecting 100 mounts because of the Goblins’ trikes. Horses make sense for Worgen, as Worgen are still essentially a Human nation, and Humans in Warcraft ride horses. These two particular mounts seem a bit plain, though. These new mounts are coming in most likely to ease the disparity between mounts when faction changes occur. All in all, this is good news for Alliance mount collectors.[hide]Continue reading Patch 4.3: Worgen racial mounts[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Patch 4.3: Worgen racial mounts[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 01 Sep 2011 12:30:00 EST. World of Wardrobe: Bringing home tier 2

Heading back to pick up some awesome armor sets from vanilla WoW or that dazzling weapon that’ll have your enemies cowering in fear? [hide]Transmogrification[/hide] makes it possible — and [hide]World of Wardrobe[/hide] shows you how.

Tier 2 is easily one of the most recognizable, iconic gear sets in World of Warcraft’s history. Nowadays, tier sets are designed around the concept of a dungeon or an area in the world. Tier 2, on the other hand, simply presented a cohesive look that practically screamed, «This is my class.» Judgement was considered the hallmark of paladin armor design; Bloodfang embraced the sneaky, silent and deadly nature of a rogue. Transcendence was a beautiful reimagining of stained glass commonly found in cathedrals; Nemesis was a dark reflection of everything a warlock should be.

If you’re looking for a tier set that encompasses everything that your class represents, tier 2 is going to be right up your alley. Last week, we dove into the [hide]depths of Molten Core[/hide], where Ragnaros awaited, tier 2 pants in his pockets. This week, we ascend the heights of Blackwing Lair to challenge the Black Dragonflight, who seem to have made a habit of squirreling away some particularly pretty pieces of gear and some of the most unique weapons you’ll ever set eyes on.

Addon Spotlight: Errormonster and a mailbag

[hide][/hide]
Each week, WoW Insider’s [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] brings you a fresh look at [hide]reader-submitted UIs[/hide] as well as [hide]Addon Spotlight[/hide], which focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond — your addons folder will never be the same.

Something peculiar is happening to my addon interface folder — it is becoming more streamlined. Whether this is a product of Blizzard’s own default UI’s becoming more capable or addon developers’ just fusing options together, it feels like fewer addons are doing more things, and I cautiously approve. My UI has remained relatively unchanged since the end of Wrath of the Lich King, so little tweaks and changes these days are big deals.

My inbox was overflowing with questions again this week, so I figured we could answer some more of them and see what kinds of recommendations we can get out there to readers who need a little guidance and help. People do, however, still like an addon recommendation as well as questions, so you’ll get a shorter recommendation this week, since there isn’t much to say, and a lengthy mailbag. Sound good? Wonderful.[hide]Continue reading Addon Spotlight: Errormonster and a mailbag[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Add-Ons[/hide], [hide]AddOn Spotlight[/hide][hide]Addon Spotlight: Errormonster and a mailbag[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 01 Sep 2011 15:00:00 EST. The Daily Quest: Getting into character

[hide][/hide]

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

I like roleplaying; it’s why I [hide]write a column[/hide] on the process. It’s a little bit creative writing, a little bit improvisational acting, and a little bit of the lore that I love, all wrapped up in a tidy package. I sometimes wonder about those who criticize RP and whether or not they actually understand what it’s about, though. If you’ve ever read and enjoyed a novel, what you’re seeing with roleplay is a giant, interactive novel with many authors who write the story as they go along. Sound fun? It is!

Today we’ve got a few posts from around the blogosphere concerning the subject of roleplay.

[hide]WTT: [RP][/hide] has a slightly older but incredibly useful post covering the basic [hide]starting blocks of RP[/hide].

[hide]RP Made Simple[/hide] offers a stimulus package for those who are concerned with the current state of [hide]roleplay activity[/hide].

[hide]I Like Pancakes[/hide] takes a look at character descriptions and common discrepancies in [hide]roleplaying stats[/hide].

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Tom Chilton suggests Mists of Pandaria «wildly overhyped»

Maybe [hide]Mists of Pandaria[/hide] isn’t quite as likely as we all thought. [hide]IGN PC[/hide] had a chat with Game Director Tom Chilton about the rumors of the upcoming expansion, as well as the upcoming patch 4.3 and the possibility of WoW moving to a free-to-play model.

Chiming in on the subject of transmogrification was Art Director Chris Robinson, who explained a little about the details behind the feature, and its restrictions. Robinson clarified that protecting class integrity was an important factor in both armor design and the upcoming transmogrification feature. «When you see those demon wings you know ‘Okay that’s a warlock,’ you know you can apply that to his tier twenty-one armor but it’s still a warlock.»

So what about free-to-play? Chilton confirms that it’s «definitely a possibility,» but for those of you looking for an immediate free-to-play version of WoW, you’re going to have to wait. Chilton clarified that the change would be a dramatic departure from Blizzard’s current business model, and it would take quite a bit of convincing to switch models.

As to the subject of Pandaren …

Speculation swirled recently regarding Blizzard’s decision to trademark ‘Mists of Pandaria’, as many thought it may indicate the name of the next World of Warcraft expansion. Pandaria, in Warcraft lore, refers to the home of the Pandaren, basically humanoid war pandas you may remember making an appearance as neutral heroes in Warcraft III. Chilton said the speculation was, «wildly overhyped.» He added, «if you look at traditionally how we’ve handled that race it’s been in those secondary products because we haven’t realized it in the world. Most of the time when we do anything panda-related it’s going to be a comic book or a figurine or something like that.»

Comic books, figurines, or a [hide]new expansion[/hide]? Time and undoubtedly BlizzCon will tell. Check out the full article over at [hide]IGN PC[/hide].

Dev Watercooler: Bloody mitigation

In Ghostcrawler’s last [hide]Dev Watercooler[/hide] blog entry, [hide]tanking and threat[/hide] were given a new focus when it came to World of Warcraft encounter design and gameplay experience. Threat for tanks was greatly increased, and the focus for tanks in the future seemed to hinge on active mitigation versus a combination of threat generation and damage mitigation.

Today, Ghostcrawler (lead systems designer Greg Street) posted more thoughts about [hide]overhauling tanking[/hide]. He delves into what active mitigation means for the WoW team, some potential models that the future of tanking can hold for many tanking classes, and a deep, introspective look into what it means to hit buttons as a tank. Plus, he goes in-depth on how these major changes ahead will affect death knights first.[hide]Continue reading Dev Watercooler: Bloody mitigation[/hide][hide]Dev Watercooler: Bloody mitigation[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 31 Aug 2011 17:00:00 EST.
