Breakfast Topic: What size and frequency do you prefer for expansions?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

Blizzard has always been good to the customers who play World of Warcraft. The game is regularly updated through patches, and we can count on an expansion every other year. However, this may not be the case for much longer. In a recent interview with GameInformer, Tom Chilton said, «Traditionally we’ve only been able to do an expansion every two years. We’re really hoping to make a meaningful difference in that.»

This comment has already sparked a debate among the WoW community, dividing the playerbase into two sides: those who think this is a great thing and those who don’t. For some, getting a new expansion more quickly means more content to explore, more bosses to down, and apparently, more pandas to cuddle. The others, however, view this as a negative — not because of the content but because we have to pay for every expansion released, on top of the monthly subscription.

Personally, I see both sides. While Blizzard has recently promised us quicker content patches, I really enjoy the excitement of a new expansion.

So which way would you prefer? Quicker, large expansions, with massive updates to the game? Or perhaps a faster delivery of patches, with a steady stream of new content?

Phat Loot Phriday: Necklace of Fetishes

Throgg turned over the [hide]Necklace of Fetishes[/hide] in his hand. When he’d explained more about the object, the Gilnean quickly waved his hands in the air frantically. «I don’t need to know,» the druid claimed.

Now, though, Lolegolas stood in the middle of the room, carefully examining his bullets. «These are all fine,» the Blood Elf said. «I’m a little surprised, actually, considering how long I was out of action. I should be ready to go with you to the [hide]Firelands[/hide].»

Throgg set the amulet down on a table. «Not going to fire land. Something we need to do first.»

Lolegolas cocked his head to the side and waited expectantly. The Gilnean simply drank his tea.

«At the Grimtotems,» Throgg said. «There was a little girl. Human. I need to know what happened to her. Did you see her?»

The druid nodded slowly. «I remember her. I was … distracted, and lost track of her. I tried looking about the camp, but had no luck.»

«We find her,» Throgg said. «Get vengeance if we must. Then Firelands. Deal?»

Lolegolas dropped the bullets into his ammo pouch. «Deal. We find the girl.»

Слухи о пандах в WoW слишком раздуты

Слухи о создании дополнения «[hide]Mists of Pandaria[/hide]» к MMORPG World of Warcraft c новыми героями-пандами «слишком раздуты», [hide]сообщил[/hide] директор MMORPG World of Warcraft Том Чилтон (Tom Chilton) в своем интервью сайту IGN.

Breakfast Topic: That longing feeling

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

Once upon a time in a distant land called Azeroth, a Night Elf druid was born. This little Night Elf was running around being its level 4 self, exploring the world and its purpleness (Teldrassil being the whole world for a level 4.) A hop skip, and a boat ride away, she found herself in Stormwind, city of the humans. «It’s not nearly as purple here as it is back home!»

Hardly two steps into the great city when all of a sudden the sky darkened and a deafening screech rose. At first startled and then in awe, the little druid looked up to see the silhouette of a great winged dragon. The best part about it … it was purple! «I must own that dragon!» She thought. After a quick trip to the internet, the goal was set and the journey began, pushing through 80 levels of dungeons and deaths, beginning the rep grind, and finally obtaining the fruit of the efforts: a [hide]netherwing drake[/hide].

Although I don’t play that Night Elf druid as much anymore, I still remember the wonder and awe I first felt when I began playing. Have you had similar experiences? Did you ever have a goal that you once thought was unobtainable? If so, did you prove yourself wrong, or does your goal still elude you?

WoW Rookie: Understanding item levels and gear decisions

[hide][/hide]
New around here? [hide]WoW Rookie[/hide] has your back! Get all our collected tips, tricks and tactics for new players in the [hide]WoW Rookie Guide[/hide]. WoW Rookie is about more than just being new to the game; it’s about checking out new classes, new playstyles, and new zones.

Last week, I talked about a [hide]handful of tips[/hide] intended to be helpful to folks leveling up and getting started in the game. These aren’t tips really suited for folks who rock out with advanced tools, nuanced spreadsheets, and extensive experience. I was aiming at people who largely play the game in-game and rarely visit outside websites. (Yes, I know, it’s not like WoW Insider is piped into the [hide]Dungeon Journal[/hide], but we’re trying.)

One of my tips was that item level counts. Rightly so, commenters pointed out the huge gaping flaws in the statement. A lot more goes into your gear choices than just item level or even quality color. And while my advice is true, going simply by item level is so simplistic as to almost be misleading. So let’s talk a tad more about why I say item level counts and how you can use that as a rough guide to making basic gear choices.

Caveat reador: if you’re at the point you’re deciding between two endgame items at 378 item level, you’ve left the realm of simply going by item level. Even some 359 items trump 378. But at the point you’re rocking endgame raids, you’ve probably got a grip on looking up your character stats.[hide]Continue reading WoW Rookie: Understanding item levels and gear decisions[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Rookie[/hide][hide]WoW Rookie: Understanding item levels and gear decisions[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 01 Sep 2011 09:00:00 EST. Around Azeroth: The lone wanderer from Vault 101

[hide][/hide]
Oh boy, I am not looking forward to cleaning up this flood. I knew I shouldn’t have cast Fireball on that ice elemental, but I was in a hurry to get back to town in time for my dailies. Is there some sort of desert repair team I can call? How much gold would that be? And could an engineer create some sort of Gnomish wet/dry vaccuum? (Thanks to Syrrme of The Sha’tar [EU-H] for the screenshot.)
