WoW TCG: Throne of the Tides monster preview

The World of Warcraft Trading Card Game is getting a monstrous new expansion set on Oct. 11, bringing new creatures such as the ogres, murlocs, and naga into the game as playable characters. Aftermath: Throne of the Tides is the first set in the Aftermath series, set after the Cataclysm and Deathwing’s rage-fueled destruction across Azeroth. Matt Place, the head designer of WoW TCG and lead designer on Aftermath: Throne of the Tides, wrote up a [hide]comprehensive preview[/hide] of the new mechanics and many new heroes coming with the newest set.

New monster heroes and allies will be given brand new rule sets that make them unique and fun, providing lots of flexibility for deck builders and new game play experiences. Monster allies, for instance, have no restrictions based on the hero that the deck is built around, giving them added flexibility. On the flipside, a monster hero deck featuring only monsters gets some cool benefits as well. Monster heroes each have a permanent power on the back of their cards.

The murlocs run in packs, granting each other bonuses that the others possess. I immediately thought back to my Magic: The Gathering days with the Slivers and was instantly excited, since the Slivers were some of the coolest creations in TCG history. The murlocs sound like they are going to be a numerous force at all times, swarming your opponent and building up lots of cool bonuses.[hide]Continue reading WoW TCG: Throne of the Tides monster preview[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW TCG[/hide][hide]WoW TCG: Throne of the Tides monster preview[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 09 Sep 2011 20:00:00 EST. Breakfast Topic: What was your moment of awe in WoW?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

I joined World of Warcraft on the [hide]Recruit-a-Friend[/hide] program. After talking about race and class with my friend, I finally settled on a Human paladin as my first character. He was going to level a Night Elf hunter.

We joined up together in Goldshire and completed a few quests; then it was time for bed. He offered to take me to Stormwind to log out in the city. I had to take care of some real life stuff, so he walked me through the auto-follow function and started running.

A bit later, I returned to the computer and remember being overwhelmed with the sheer size of Stormwind. The auto-follow had been broken and I was standing near a canal, lost and confused. How would I ever find my way around this vast metropolis? Of course, the luster wore off as I became familiar with the city, but it’s been my home ever since that moment. I proudly wear the title and sport the Stormwind Tabard.

What was your first awe-inspiring moment? Was it a place? A quest chain? A task you completed in game?

The Daily Quest: In review

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

Way back in vanilla, I remember questing with a friend out in Azshara — well, maybe «questing» is too strong of a term. It was more like «murdering mass amounts of dragonkin and grinding out XP» than real questing. While merrily stomping dragons, all of a sudden we heard a zone-wide yell from Azuregos, a new outdoor boss that had just been put in. My friend, being the hit-things-first-ask-questions-later type, decided to run up and smack the dragon in the face. After all, he reasoned, it was only a dragon. How hard could it be?

This was when we both learned the valuable lesson that creatures with ??? listed as their level should probably not be messed with unless you’ve got a substantial amount of backup. Oddly enough, I kind of miss those days.

Today, we’ve got some posts looking at different parts of Cataclysm and sharing some thoughts and reviews on the expansion.

[hide]Lume the Mad[/hide] continues a series on Cataclysm in review with a look at the expansion’s [hide]production quality[/hide].

[hide]Blessing of Kings[/hide] looks at the current state of [hide]endgame raiding[/hide] and comes up with a few suggestions for improvements.

[hide]Jod’s Blog[/hide] looks at the progression of questing in game, with a nostalgic glimpse at the days where [hide]group quests[/hide] were a necessity.

Hey, bloggers! Wondering what it takes to be featured in The Daily Quest? Around Azeroth: A familiar face

[hide][/hide]

«While enjoying a brew at a new bar I found in the Dwarven District of Stormwind, I noticed the patrons giving me funny looks,» writes [hide]Ulfgar[/hide] of [hide]Flea Circus[/hide] on Ghostlands (EU-A). «I couldn’t figure out why until I checked behind me. Seems my past may be finally catching up to me.» Good thing this isn’t Oblivion; if it were, he’d be running across half the map, chased by every guard in the city.

The Queue: Blame Greg

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

In the spirit of today’s final question, I’m gonna blame Ghostcrawler for something completely unrelated to his job. Greg, buddy, I need to get paid more than once a month. Ikea doesn’t shop itself.

Side note: Alex, what were you on when you made this image?

Spectres asked:

If the language (Troll) was changed to (Zandali) why wouldn’t they change the language (Gutterspeak) to (Forsaken)? And for that matter, what reason could their have been to not let Worgen speak (Gilnean)?

Well, there’s no real reason to change Gutterspeak to Forsaken. Gutterspeak is the name of the language (which, by the way, only exists for gameplay reasons). The Troll language is called Zandali, so changing it from «Troll» to «Zandali» made sense, at least. And Worgen would not speak Gilnean, because Gilneans speak Common, like pretty much all Humans.[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Blame Greg[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Blame Greg[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 09 Sep 2011 11:00:00 EST.
