Patch 4.3: Blizzard’s official preview of the Well of Eternity heroic dungeon

[hide][/hide]

Today seems to be a huge day for [hide]patch 4.3[/hide] news, as Blizzard has just released a second 4.3 dungeon preview, this one for the Well of Eternity. After opening the gateway to the past in [hide]End Time[/hide], players will be transported back in time to Azshara’s palace during the War of the Ancients to retrieve the Dragon Soul. Sounds easy enough, right? Yeah, not so much — the Dragon Soul is busy hovering over the Well of Eternity and being used to open the portal that will allow Sargeras into the world.

In order to retrieve the Dragon Soul, players will have to fight and defeat the enemies that stand in the way, including Queen Azshara herself. Also seen in Well of Eternity are two names that should ring a bell to those familiar with lore — the pit lord Mannoroth, whose blood is responsible for the corruption of the Orcish race, and Varo’then, head of Queen Azshara’s personal guard. We already know what happens to [hide]Mannoroth[/hide] and [hide]Varo’then[/hide] in the future, so what will happen if we mess with them in the past?

It seems as though all this mucking around in time is something players will have to be considerate of, however. According to Zarhym, «The tragic events which took place at the Well of Eternity must ultimately come to pass, leading to the Great Sundering, the creation of the Maelstrom, and the loss of countless lives.»

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m looking forward to saying hello to the younger versions of Tyrande, Malfurion, and Illidan. Check out the [hide]official website[/hide] for the full preview, with plenty of images and more information on the various bosses in the dungeon.

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with [hide]patch 4.3[/hide]. Look at what’s ahead: new [hide]item storage options[/hide], [hide]cross-realm raiding[/hide], [hide]cosmetic armor skinning[/hide] and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing — from [hide]astride his back[/hide]!

Вышла 2-я часть обзора подземелий патча 4.3

Blizzard Entertainment опубликовала [hide]вторую часть обзора[/hide] подземелий («Источник вечности») из патча 4.3 к MMORPG World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.

Officers’ Quarters: Soloing a guild

Every Monday, Scott Andrews contributes [hide]Officers’ Quarters[/hide], a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. He is the author of [hide]The Guild Leader’s Handbook[/hide], available now from [hide]No Starch Press[/hide].

One of the most frequent questions that new guild leaders ask me is this: How many officers do I need to run a guild? It varies, of course, based on what your ambitions are. However, the following email represents the first time anyone has asked this question: Do I even need officers?

Hi Scott,

I have started a social guild recently with the purpose of it being a place for guild members to have others to chat with, run dungeons, and other game related activities. The guild won’t really be for progression or leveling, though I’m not opposed to guild members doing those activities.

As I’ve never ran a guild before, I was wondering, are officers truly necessary for a social guild?

I do plan to draw up rules for if members run dungeons, or do raids, together but I didn’t know if I’d need more then that.

I truly want to make this a fun place for my guild members so any help you give will be appreciated!

I. Two Bosses Enter: Lord Godfrey vs. Setesh

In [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide], WoW Insider’s series of fantasy death matches, the bosses of World of Warcraft face off in the squared circle. Your vote determines who wins and claims the season title.

Who knew Foe Reaper 5000 was [hide]such a fan favorite[/hide]? The mechanical monstrosity put a large, harvester-fist-shaped dent into Azil’s championship fighting career, knocking her out of the tournament with a big 59% of the vote from last week. I’m suspecting that the matchup was really more about which boss didn’t get people so many headaches.

This week’s matchup pits Shadowfang resident and gun-toting maniac Lord Godfrey against oft-ignored Titan construct Setesh in a duel to the proverbial death. Will Godfrey’s bullets be enough to end Setesh’s calls to the void, or will Setesh’s chaos bolts be too much to handle? Let’s vote!

[hide]View Poll[/hide]

Follow along for the details of this week’s matchup, as well as discussion on last week’s match.[hide]Continue reading Two Bosses Enter: Lord Godfrey vs. Setesh[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Two Bosses Enter[/hide][hide]Two Bosses Enter: Lord Godfrey vs. Setesh[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 19 Sep 2011 17:00:00 EST. Blood Pact: The future of destruction

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] for [hide]affliction[/hide], [hide]demonology[/hide] and [hide]destruction[/hide] warlocks. For those who disdain the watered-down arts that other cling to like a safety blanket … For those willing to test their wills against the nether and claim the power that is their right … [hide]Blood Pact[/hide] welcomes you.

For the past two weeks, we’ve been taking a look at the future of warlock design — a bit of clairvoyance on my part, with Blizzard’s asking for [hide]player feedback[/hide] of a similar nature this past week. First we looked at [hide]affliction’s[/hide] concerns, and then we talked about [hide]demonology[/hide]. This week, we’ll round out the series by discussing what might come of destruction, the current wayward child of warlocks.

It’s easy to talk about the problems that destruction faces now, as they’re things that we see inside of the game, yet damage balance is a very fickle mistress. Numbers can be tuned at the drop of a hat; whether they are or not is an entirely different matter. Dealing in numbers and figures really is a simple matter. This week’s focus won’t exclusively be on the damage disparity that destruction currently suffers from, but rather the mechanical difficulties and identity crisis that holds it back. Damage is meaningless when Blizzard could easily hotfix in a random buff or nerf without a moment’s notice; again, it’s more so a matter of if or when.[hide]Continue reading Blood Pact: The future of destruction[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Warlock[/hide], [hide](Warlock) Blood Pact[/hide][hide]Blood Pact: The future of destruction[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 19 Sep 2011 18:00:00 EST. Tom Chilton shares info on patch 4.3 dungeons and more

When [hide]Zarhym said that patch 4.3 goodies were imminent[/hide], we didn’t know he meant this soon. Our parent site, Joystiq, has [hide]the details from with Tom Chilton[/hide], Game Director for WoW. He talks about the trio of new 5-man dungeons and the lore behind the final chapter of Cataclysm’s story.

The new 5-man dungeons will have us exploring a future where Deathwing wins, to [hide]show Nozdormu[/hide] the Endtime that would happen if Deathwing were allowed to bring his plans to fruition. After convincing the [hide]leader of the Bronze Dragonflight[/hide] to aid us, we travel back in time to the Well of Eternity to allow Thrall to steal the Demon Soul. The Demon Soul is an ancient dragon artifact that will be the focal point of our attack on Deathwing. Finally, we enter the Hour of Twilight, escorting Thrall and the Demon Soul to Wyrmrest Temple, which is where the final battle begins.

Chilton also talks about the Deathwing encounter itself, sharing with us details on the mobile fight that is like nothing we’ve ever seen before. Deathwing will be on the run, and we will be giving chase across the world. As Deathwing is trying to heal himself and regain his strength, players will be ripping away his armor plating and fighting the lava beasts that lurk within his body. There will be a new balancing mechanic that forces players to stay balanced while fighting, adding an entirely new angle to the encounter.

The final showdown will occur with players fighting Deathwing from floating islands in the Maelstrom. The [hide]full article on Joystiq[/hide] has more details on the encounter and what we can expect to see when facing Deathwing. From my perspective, patch 4.3 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting patches of all time!

Patch 4.3: Rogue legendaries, Raid Finder, and more

Blizzard’s [hide]patch 4.3[/hide] info-drop continues tonight, with interviews going up across the blogosphere tonight. Our sister site Joystiq posted a [hide]whole bunch of new info about 4.3’s dungeons[/hide] earlier, and now we’ve learned a few really cool pieces of information from Curse’s interview with Greg Street, aka Ghostcrawler, about the new rogue legendary weapon, the raid finder, and more.

First, the rogue legendary is actually a pair of legendaries; specifically, a pair of daggers named the Fangs of Father (which may be a mistranslation), according to [hide]Taiwanese Gamebase[/hide]. GC explains across his interviews that rogues have understandably felt left out of this expansion both in terms of numbers and content, so giving them a legendary of their own was a good way to get them into the spotlight. The questline for these daggers will revolve around the single pure black dragon egg that players helped protect in the Badlands. The dragon will hatch (it’s a boy!) and lead rogues on a time- and gold-consuming quest around the world for their well-earned blades.[hide]Continue reading Patch 4.3: Rogue legendaries, Raid Finder, and more[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Cataclysm[/hide][hide]Patch 4.3: Rogue legendaries, Raid Finder, and more[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 19 Sep 2011 03:30:00 EST. Patch 4.3: Epic gems and more on the Deathwing encounter from Ghostcrawler

Plaintively waiting for epic gems? They’re on the way in [hide]patch 4.3[/hide] — and the mechanic to obtain them is a little different this time around, according to Lead Systems Designer Greg Street, a.k.a. Ghostcrawler. In an interview with [hide]Tankspot[/hide], Ghostcrawler clarified how those epic gems are going to work.

«The way we’re hoping to set it up, and we kind of have this working but things could change before we go live, is when you kill a boss on normal or heroic mode, each player gets a geode, and when they open the geode there’s a chance they may find an epic gem inside. If not, it’ll have blue gems or something like that.» Along with the scoop on epic gems, Ghostcrawler also talked a bit about the upcoming legendary daggers and how they will work, as well as the Deathwing encounter.

For those wondering if the Deathwing encounter will be challenging, it certainly appears so — and Deathwing himself will change from how we’ve seen him so far in game. Rather than the plate-wearing, mammoth-chinned beast we’re accustomed to seeing, Deathwing will be hurt and resemble something Ghostcrawler calls «Cthulhu Deathwing.» The entry for the Deathwing raid will be in the Caverns of Time, along with all other 4.3 instances.

For more on the Deathwing encounter, epic gems, tank threat and other 4.3 information, check out Tankspot’s [hide]full interview[/hide].

Breakfast Topic: Do you participate in Pirates’ Day?

Today marks the start (and end!) of one of World of Warcraft’s most fleeting in-game holidays, [hide]Pirates’ Day[/hide]. It’s Blizzard’s way of honoring [hide]International Talk Like a Pirate Day[/hide], a «holiday» celebrated almost exclusively by people who like pictures of cats with misspelled words on them.

Are you going to Booty Bay today, even though participating in the holiday isn’t required for the [hide]What A Long Strange Trip It’s Been[/hide] meta-achievement? (Achievement point junkies can still score 10 points by traveling to Booty Bay and talking to [hide]Dread Captain DeMeza[/hide].) And do you actually like the holiday, or do you wish it would make like a tree and get outta here?

Working on achievements? [hide]The Overachiever[/hide] is here to help! Count on us for advice on Azeroth’s holidays and special events, including [hide]new achievements[/hide], how to get [hide]310% flight speed with achievement mounts[/hide], and Cataclysm [hide]reputation factions and achievements[/hide].
