Breakfast Topic: What holiday does Azeroth still need?

This [hide]Breakfast Topic[/hide] has been brought to you by [hide]Seed[/hide], the AOL guest writer program that brings [hide]your words[/hide] to WoW Insider’s pages.

I won’t lie: I’ve resubbed to WoW for Brewfest. No joke. I don’t even drink in real life, but I love Azeroth’s in-game event. The fun toys, the celebration, getting folks together to do things in game that aren’t just for progression but for fun …

Sure, some events get revamped, but there are some dead spots on the calendar. Wouldn’t it be cool to have St. Patrick’s Day in March, to ease the lull between the Love is in the Air and Noblegarden events? Make it some sort of Goblin celebration (neutral Goblins, not Horde). The real-world counterpart’s largely a secular holiday these days, so all we need is some green and drinking. Perhaps a celebration of some Goblin businessman finding enough money to start the Steamwheedle Cartel?. Heck, maybe even make it so we can actually visit a small portion of the Undermine until Blizz wants to fully flesh it out; make it a holiday dungeon where we save Undermine from something Deathwing woke up.

Or maybe something new altogether … August is kind of a dead month, and since summers are slow anyway, why not spice things up? Perhaps an Azerothian Scholars holiday honoring prominent members of the WoW community, from addon creators and theorycrafters to people who try to help make the official WoW forums useful. Other games do bonus XP weekends, so WoW could have something like that, where honor, justice points, loot drops and so on could be increased for a few days and load screens have the names of players who’ve stood out in the community.

What kind of holiday would you like to see added to WoW? Explorer’s Day? Teacher Appreciation Day? Tigule and Foror Ice Cream Day?

Patch 4.3 PTR: Shaman class changes

[hide]Patch 4.3 is now up[/hide] on the PTR, as well as the [hide]official patch 4.3 patch notes[/hide]. With the latest build comes a rather large amount of changes for shaman of all three talent specializations. Some come as no shock; others were things I don’t think many of us planned on seeing. Everything, though, seems aimed at bringing balance back to the class on every front.

As always, we look at the upcoming changes for any patch with both excitement and trepidation. Will our changes make a difference for the better or the worse? Are they buffs or are they nerfs? Will we finally get that spectral moose we were promised so long ago? As always, remember that these changes are tentative, and since they are on the test realm, they are subject to change at any time that the developers at Blizzard Entertainment feel they should change.

So what’s in store, and what does it mean for shaman? Jump after the cut for the full list.[hide]Continue reading Patch 4.3 PTR: Shaman class changes[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide][hide]Patch 4.3 PTR: Shaman class changes[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 28 Sep 2011 09:00:00 EST. Wondering whether microtransactions in western games are as harmless as publishers would have you believe? BitGamer was as well, and as such, the website has conducted an informal study of RMT and its effects across seven different titles. Ultimately the piece reaches the familiar conclusion that RMT is here to stay and that it’s OK as long as the implementation avoids the dreaded pay-to-win stigma.

Shifting Perspectives: 3 observations on the tier 13 set bonuses

[hide][/hide]
Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide], [hide]bear[/hide], [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. This Tuesday, we ponder tier 13.

[hide] Tier 13’s set bonuses[/hide] were revealed this past Saturday night to the delight of many, the disgust of just as many, and the widespread horror of healers, who quickly arrived at the same conclusion that you’re going to see me talk about in this column. Which is not to say that the tier set bonuses are bad, mind you — it’s just that they scare the hell out of us.

I’m going to muscle in on [hide]Alaron’s job[/hide] this week very briefly, because cats inevitably wind up with the same tier bonuses as bears. In tier 13, that’s going to have some pretty serious implications for raid survivability, so we’ll touch on that today. Resto itself didn’t get anything too striking, but we do have enough information to hazard a guess at how much the set bonuses will add to our healing, and the feral bonuses hint at some tough stuff ahead for healers.[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: 3 observations on the tier 13 set bonuses[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: 3 observations on the tier 13 set bonuses[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 27 Sep 2011 18:00:00 EST. Patch 4.3 PTR: Build 14732 hits the servers

The industrious folks at Wowhead News and MMO-Champion are busy datamining away at the PTR, as [hide]patch 4.3 has just hit the servers[/hide]. Lots of interesting class changes (death knights, you done got a ton, as did shaman) and holiday achievements.

Just breezing over them at a first glance, we can see that there are tooltip changes galore, including a distressing change to [hide]Enrage[/hide] for us fury warriors (bleeds look to be excluded from Enrage now, as it now states physical damage instead of all damage). Holiday companions that used to require a reagent now just work during their holiday, like the [hide]Winter Reindeer[/hide]. That’s a nice change, in my opinion.

We’ll be bringing you the best of the patch 4.3 PTR changes all night long, so keep an eye on the site.

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with [hide]patch 4.3[/hide]. Look at what’s ahead: new [hide]item storage options[/hide], [hide]cross-realm raiding[/hide], [hide]cosmetic armor skinning[/hide] and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing — from [hide]astride his back[/hide]!

Patch 4.3: Guild masters can now be impeached

With patch 4.3 hitting the PTR, a heck of a lot of new information is coming fast and furious. While there’s plenty of stuff in there that we’ve been expecting, there are a bunch of surprises in there as well.

One of the most interesting new but unannounced changes: Patch 4.3 looks to bring with it a mechanism by which you can impeach an inactive guild master. What criteria are required to set an impeachment aren’t known yet, but a quick look at the code suggests that after a certain amount of time, a guild’s second-in-command will be able to take control of a guild set adrift by a leadership vacuum at the top:

GUILD_IMPEACH_POPUP_CONFIRM = «Dethrone»;

GUILD_IMPEACH_POPUP_TEXT = «Your guild master has been flagged as inactive. You may assume control of the guild. Do you want to remove the guild master?»;

World of Warcraft is just a game, and real-life issues frequently come up for guild masters that prevent them from doing their job or indeed even logging on. Given how much effort goes into getting a guild to level 25, this change appears to answer an underlying need for leadership succession.
