The Classifieds: BlizzCon is two weeks away

[hide]The [/hide][hide]Classifieds[/hide] brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable.

As I was busily working yesterday in stately Gray Manor, my good friend (and boss) [hide]Dan[/hide] dropped me a message. «Do you realize,» he said (and I paraphrase, because he’s my boss), «BlizzCon is just two weeks away?»

I dropped my coffee with a gasp. It really is just two weeks away. We’ll get to see the [hide]Foo Fighters[/hide] rock the house and stand in line to buy [hide]awesome merchandise[/hide]. Oh yeah, and WoW Insider is going to have [hide]one hell of a party[/hide].

Here’s hoping you’re packing your bags, folks. [hide]BlizzCon[/hide] is getting very, very close. Two weeks will fly by before you know it, and suddenly we’ll all be in Anaheim soaking in that beautiful Blizzard love.[hide]Continue reading The Classifieds: BlizzCon is two weeks away[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Classifieds[/hide][hide]The Classifieds: BlizzCon is two weeks away[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 09:00:00 EST. Around Azeroth: Feralpult

[hide][/hide]
When feral druid Charles volunteered to help out with the defense of New Kargath, he may have bitten off more than even a bear can chew. Not even the most stalwart defender of the Horde takes joy in being strapped into a catapult and vaulted toward a dragon in the sky. I hope he’s wearing his old Molten Core-era fire resist gear, because those black dragons can sting.

The Queue: Time travel is just the worst

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. [hide]Alex Ziebart[/hide] will be your host today.

Raise your hand if you want an Hour of Twilight stream tonight, so I can sucker Matt, Mat, Anne, and an amorphous WoW Insider blob into showing up again.

WoW Moviewatch: Login2life

[hide]Olibith[/hide] created [hide]this video[/hide] as part of his work on the documentary [hide]Login2life[/hide]. When the director asked Olibith for his vision of a world #1 guild, this video came about as a result. The good news is that it seems like [hide]Ensidia[/hide] isn’t too upset with Olibith for the parody.

If you’re curious about the documentary, Olibith included some information about it for us:

Login2Life is a feature length documentary that portrays people who have found an alternate home in an online world. Many people from the World of Warcraft community were interviewed in real life for this movie, the famous Kungen, Mikoa Chinese farmer, Corey a very special player, and even a crazy gnome with a purple turban. Featuring more than 18 minutes of unreleased WoW machinimas by [hide]Baron Soosdon[/hide], Kilh and myself.
This does seem like a fun movie — and with this lineup of talent, you know it’s got to be good.

Interested in the wide world of [hide]machinima[/hide]? We have new movies every weekday here on [hide]WoW Moviewatch[/hide]! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at [hide]moviewatch@wowinsider.com[/hide].

Encrypted Text: Designing the ultimate rogue quest chain

[hide][/hide]
Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Encrypted Text[/hide] for [hide]assassination[/hide], [hide]combat[/hide] and [hide]subtlety[/hide] rogues. [hide]Chase Christian[/hide] will be your guide to the world of shadows every Wednesday. Feel free to [hide]email me[/hide] with any questions or article suggestions you’d like to see covered here.

In preparation for researching the upcoming pair of [hide]legendary daggers for rogues[/hide], the [hide]Fangs of the Father[/hide], I have already copied over several rogues to the PTR servers. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to start the quest chain just yet, as not all of the new dungeons are accessible. I will have more information on exactly what’s required to obtain our upcoming orange weapons once I’m able to actually start working on it. The black dragon Wrathion will be giving us orders, and we’ll be completing his missions in return for the legendary weapons.

Some information has been datamined on a few of the [hide]quests that we’ll be completing[/hide]. While we don’t know much, we do know that there will be at least one Pick Pocket job and a Stealth mission, based on both the datamined info and Lead Systems Designer [hide]Ghostcrawler’s own statement[/hide] on the rogue-themed quest line. Picking a few mobs’ pockets for a ring and sneaking into [hide]Ravenholdt[/hide] doesn’t seem to that challenging, but obviously we don’t see the whole picture yet. I have been mulling over ideas for what pieces of quintessential rogueness could be introduced to make our quest for legendary weapons that much more memorable.[hide]Continue reading Encrypted Text: Designing the ultimate rogue quest chain[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Rogue[/hide], [hide](Rogue) Encrypted Text[/hide][hide]Encrypted Text: Designing the ultimate rogue quest chain[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 13:00:00 EST. Lichborne: Preliminary patch 4.3 impressions for death knights

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Lichborne[/hide] for [hide]blood[/hide], [hide]frost[/hide], and [hide]unholy[/hide] death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let’s show the other classes how a hero class gets things done.

With the [hide]patch 4.3[/hide] PTR up for a week now, I thought it would be a good idea to talk about its effect on death knights. It helps that I have been playing a decent amount of PTR over the last week, so I have a lot to talk about. Of course, the first thing we’ll want to take about is the centerpiece of the patch, the ultimate and greatest feature of WoW to date, [hide]transmogrification[/hide].

After much trial, error, and agonizing, I’ve come to conclusion that [hide]Acherus Knight’s Gear[/hide], the original green starting stuff we get upon creation, is truly the best look. For my personal set, I swapped in my [hide]Greaves of the Slaughter[/hide] just because I didn’t like the barefoot look, but other than that, it’s pretty amazing. If you didn’t save your own set, you may be out of luck, but I am hearing rumors that [hide]Darkmoon Faire[/hide] could give us a chance to get the set again. Unfortunately, the Faire’s not up for testing yet, so I can’t confirm that at the moment.

Of course, you can only play pretty dress-up for so long before you need to go back to slaying monsters (and I say this as someone who absolutely adores playing pretty dress-up on my WoW characters), so moving on, we’ll take a look at the rest of this thing.[hide]Continue reading Lichborne: Preliminary patch 4.3 impressions for death knights[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Death Knight[/hide], [hide](Death Knight) Lichborne[/hide][hide]Lichborne: Preliminary patch 4.3 impressions for death knights[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 14:00:00 EST. Totem Talk: Restoration’s first week with PTR patch 4.3

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Totem Talk[/hide] for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide] and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. Want to be a sultan of swing healing? A champion of Chain Heal? Totem Talk: Restoration, brought to you by Joe Perez (otherwise known as Lodur from [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and co-host of the [hide]For the Lore[/hide] and [hide]Raid Warning[/hide] podcasts), shows you how.

It’s been a very exciting few weeks for restoration shaman as a group. First, we got to see the [hide]new look of the tier 13 shaman[/hide] gear. It’s a good-looking set, that’s for sure. We then got a chance to see our tier 13 set bonuses. Both the two- and four-piece set bonuses are actually quite nice, and I’m looking forward to getting to check them out in a live environment soon.

Last week, though, we got news of the PTR going live, and with it came a number of [hide]restoration shaman changes[/hide]. To be honest, there were just a lot of general shaman changes in the works on that patch right from the get-go. For the past week, I’ve been playing around with the PTR and the changes, through both new dungeon content and current raids. Today, I’d like to share my experiences of the last week with you.[hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: Restoration’s first week with PTR patch 4.3[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: Restoration’s first week with PTR patch 4.3[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 15:00:00 EST. Patch 4.3 PTR: Alizabal, Mistress of Hate available for testing

[hide][/hide]
The good news: Raid testing has begun on the patch 4.3 PTR. The bad news: It’s not a Dragon Soul boss. Alizabal, Mistress of Hate, is the third and final (?) encounter of Baradin Hold, and she’s downright eager to be slaughtered by Azerothian adventurers. Even better, Blizzard Lead Encounter Designer Daelo [hide]wants your feedback[/hide], you murderers.

Even if you won’t have an opportunity to tackle her on the PTR, you can still find out a fair amount about the encounter from datamining and our new friend the Dungeon Journal. We know Alizabal uses the abilities [hide]Blade Dance[/hide], [hide]Seething Hate[/hide], and [hide]Skewer[/hide]. We also know she wields [hide]this thing[/hide]. Good to know, that.

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with [hide]patch 4.3[/hide]. Review the [hide]official patch notes[/hide], and then dig into what’s ahead: new [hide]item storage options[/hide], [hide]cross-realm raiding[/hide], [hide]cosmetic armor skinning[/hide] and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing — from [hide]astride his back[/hide]!

Reader UI of the Week: Figuring out what is wrong

[hide][/hide]
Each week, WoW Insider and [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] bring you a fresh look at [hide]reader-submitted UIs[/hide] as well as [hide]Addon Spotlight[/hide], which spotlights the latest user interface addons. Have a screenshot of your own UI that you’d like to submit? Send your screenshots along with info on what mods you’re using to [hide]readerui@wowinsider.com[/hide], and [hide]follow Mathew[/hide] on Twitter.

From time to time on Reader UI of the Week, I like to take readers’ user interfaces and give them a bit of a face-lift and help everyone learn from the experience of looking at their UIs with a little bit more clarity and substance. This week’s fixer-upper comes to us from Essmanna, a poor, distraught mage, who just cannot figure out what to do to make her UI look the way she wants it to. Maybe we can help put this mage on the path to interface enlightenment.

Things are not hopeless for you, Essmanna. We are here to help. As a DPS class (and a mage, to boot), your UI needs are not going to be as extensive as, say, a healing priest. One of the best things you can do for yourself when first starting out changing your user interface for the better and spending the time learning the ins and outs of the whole ordeal is to start with a relatively simple and less demanding class. That’s not an insult, I promise. Mages work well because they are very straightforward.[hide]Continue reading Reader UI of the Week: Figuring out what is wrong[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Add-Ons[/hide], [hide]Reader UI of the Week[/hide][hide]Reader UI of the Week: Figuring out what is wrong[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 17:00:00 EST. Shifting Perspectives: When healers run out of options

[hide][/hide]
Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide], [hide]bear[/hide], [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. This Tuesday, the upcoming Wild Growth nerf gets us thinking.

As with our previous Shifting Perspectives on [hide]tanking and healing the Zandalari 5-mans[/hide] introduced in [hide]patch 4.2[/hide], I’d like to run an edition on tanking and healing the new Hour of Twilight, Well of Eternity, and End Time heroics. While I prep that, we’ve been left with an unpleasant but perhaps not totally unexpected [hide]nerf to Wild Growth[/hide] as of last week’s PTR patch notes.

Let us be frank, my brethren. Is [hide]Wild Growth[/hide] overpowered? Yep.

Is it doing too much healing for too little effort? Probably. When even I can keep your ungemmed, unenchanted premade group’s collective ass alive on my first trip into a new heroic despite getting lost and arriving at the group a minute late, a spell is way too good.

But is that completely irrelevant to why Wild Growth is really a problem? Yep.[hide]Continue reading Shifting Perspectives: When healers run out of options[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Druid[/hide], [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide], [hide](Druid) Shifting Perspectives[/hide][hide]Shifting Perspectives: When healers run out of options[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 18:00:00 EST.
