Around Azeroth: Hugs, not pugs

[hide][/hide]
Having suddenly realized that he was not geared enough to defeat Ragnaros, [hide]Asi[/hide] of [hide]Downfall[/hide] on Boulderfist (US-H) quickly tried to make peace with the boss by offering him a hug. Rag saw through his trick and noticed the Goblin-made explosives taped to Asi’s hands. Asi now serves Ragnaros as a green-skinned rug in front of the Firelord’s fireplace.

The Queue: Mnozil

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky, senior editor at WoW Insider and webmaster of a [hide]new mobile gaming website[/hide], will be your host today.

In another life, I would be a full-time musician. I went to school for it for a while, played regularly with some jazz groups, really enjoyed my time. My fiance is a musician, and her parents are quite successful instrumentalists themselves, having played for many years in the top military groups out in Washington, D.C. They showed Katie and me the above video over the weekend — and what’d I think?

The Queue.

Adamjgp asked:

I’ve been trying to keep track of all the LFR and 4.3 news, but inevetibally things slip through. According to a Blue you only get loot once per raid boss. Does this count across all raid difficulty tiers?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Mnozil[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Mnozil[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 06 Oct 2011 11:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: The Device Has Been Modified

With [hide]BlizzCon[/hide] about two weeks away, the [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] staff is celebrating the wild, wonderful world of WoW Machinima by revisiting some old favorites.

[hide]The Device Has Been Modified [/hide]by [hide]Baron Soosdon[/hide] has been a long-time favorite of the entire staff. It was nominated by Adam Holisky as one of his favorites, which is no surprise considering the slick, skillful presentation Soosdon put together.

Obviously, the song is a take-off of the popular video game Portal. Nowadays, though, whenever I hear this song come up on my playlist, this fierce Gnome and brilliant machinima is what springs to mind. If I talk about the archetypical WoW music video, The Device Has Been Modified is what comes to mind.

Interested in the wide world of [hide]machinima[/hide]? We have new movies every weekday here on [hide]WoW Moviewatch[/hide]! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at [hide]moviewatch@wowinsider.com[/hide].

An end to mailing heirlooms?

If you’re an altoholic, you’ve no doubt experienced the joy of schlepping your heirloom items around via the mail system (along with claiming all your pets and mounts for every new character). With Cataclysm and the focus on all the earlier content, many people are still running alts through the old world, soaking up all the different changes.

A recent blue post by Zarhym hints at a potential design change to the heirloom system.

Zarhym

So, after making a trip to the doctor and having some blood stolen, I stopped by Ghostcrawler’s office to discuss this and other topics with him. We talked about some of the feedback in this thread, as well as the developers’ latest thoughts on BoA and heirloom items.

Rather than potentially having my statements in this thread come back to bite me at some point in the future, I’m going to risk being confusing or sounding dumb. :p

In short, they agree that the process of mailing heirlooms around constantly is a little annoying. We’d prefer to try and work ourselves away from the method of mailing out BoA items in the future, like pets, mounts, etc. To that end, we have some design goals in mind that would improve this sort of item distribution system. And with those design goals have come some ideas for changing heirloom mechanics. This is sort of contrary to the idea I stated in this thread about just designing the system to allow players to mail their heirlooms all around their accounts without realm restrictions.

That’s all of the information I can share at the moment, but I feel like it’s worth pointing out that the design philosophy I stated earlier isn’t so set in stone — we’re reevaluating these types of systems as we look toward the future. I apologize if I’ve caused any confusion.

[hide]source[/hide]

This sounds great. Perhaps a BOA/heirloom vendor in each city who will sell you anything you’ve unlocked for a nominal fee? Time will tell!

The Daily Quest: A little bit of sunshine

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

The above screenshot was taken some time in early 2005, and it still makes me smile. It also oddly makes me miss the old druid cat form, although the new version is a marked improvement over the old. Anyway, it’s Wednesday, which happily means it’s that much closer to the weekend, and today we’ve got some posts from around the blogosphere full of other happy things.

[hide]Jinxed Thoughts[/hide] has a laundry list of [hide]things she likes[/hide] about World of Warcraft.

[hide]Achievements Ahoy[/hide] offers step-by-step [hide]instructions to nabbing talbuk mounts[/hide] in Nagrand.

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoy the blog of one Garrosh Hellscream, although it does contain the occasional crass language. But then we’re talking about Garrosh here. Visit [hide]The Warchief’s Command Board[/hide] to get a look at the personal side of the Horde’s Warchief.

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

About the Bloggers: Matt Walsh

About the Bloggers introduces you to the people behind WoW Insider. You can find articles on more of our staffers in [hide]earlier About the Bloggers profiles[/hide].

What do you do for WoW Insider?

I write the tanking slice of WoW Insider’s [hide]The Light and How to Swing It[/hide] column for paladin’s pie. I also head the site’s Department of Tortured Metaphors and Analogies.

What’s your main?

Rhidach, a Blood Elf paladin on the Lightninghoof server. I’ve been playing Rhidach since I started playing WoW for the second time at the beginning of The Burning Crusade. He and I have been through a lot together, from simple beginnings in Eversong to the first raids in the Outland, to the top of Icecrown Glacier and now the plane of Fire. It’s been a wild ride, and I can barely bring myself to play any other character. I’ll definitely never have a different main.[hide]Continue reading About the Bloggers: Matt Walsh[/hide]Filed under: [hide]About the Bloggers[/hide][hide]About the Bloggers: Matt Walsh[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 16:00:00 EST. Know Your Lore: The Story of Us — Quests in WoW, part 1

The World of Warcraft is an expansive universe. You’re playing the game, you’re fighting the bosses, you know the how — but do you know the why? Each week, [hide]Matthew Rossi [/hide]and [hide]Anne Stickney[/hide] make sure you [hide]Know Your Lore[/hide] by covering the history of the story behind World of Warcraft.

I was going to write about [hide]Greatmother Geyah[/hide] this week. I was doing research and thinking about her story, her influence on Durotan and Draka, on Garrosh, and even on Thrall (making her I believe the most influential Orc in history — influential in that she affected others without directly causing events), when I remembered a pivotal moment in the history of Nagrand and the Horde. It was when a Tauren warrior whose friends call him Vorn rode into Nagrand at the behest of then Warchief Thrall. In the course of a few momentous quests, Vorn defeated the Mag’har’s enemies, secured Garadar, and revealed to two Orcs their origins and destinies. One was Warchief then. The other is Warchief now.

In that moment, I realized that it was those of us who did [hide]that quest chain[/hide] who truly shaped the destiny of the Horde. Each of us will remember who the pivotal character was who brought Thrall to Garadar and who revealed to Garrosh the truth about his father. But whoever it was, we know she or he stood at a fulcrum point, and her or his actions brought us to the present day. Without that hero, Garrosh would never have gone to Northrend and would not be Warchief now. Thrall would never have gone to Garadar, never met his grandmother, and never taken his first step on the road to becoming the World-Shaman he is today.

Let’s talk about quest chains with this kind of sweeping, dramatic effect on the world. Let’s talk about the biggest heroes Azeroth has ever seen. Let’s talk about us.[hide]Continue reading Know Your Lore: The Story of Us — Quests in WoW, part 1[/hide][hide]Know Your Lore: The Story of Us — Quests in WoW, part 1[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 17:00:00 EST. The Light and How to Swing It: Retribution paladin feedback

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]The Light and How to Swing It[/hide] for [hide]holy[/hide], [hide]protection[/hide] and [hide]retribution[/hide] paladins. Seasoned retribution paladin Dan Desmond is here to answer your questions and provide you with your biweekly dose of retribution medicine. Contact him at [hide]dand@wowinsider.com[/hide] with any questions, concerns, or compliments!

Before we begin, let’s have a quick overview of our snazzy new tier 13 armor, complete with set bonuses!

Aesthetically speaking, I really like the look of it. Sure, the helm is a bit gaudy, but I think the color scheme and overall design really fit the concept of paladin well. Blizzard stated that it based the design off of [hide]Guardian of Ancient Kings[/hide], but it obviously went beyond that just a tad. Also, for those of you not keen on plate dresses, this set should be right up your alley![hide]Continue reading The Light and How to Swing It: Retribution paladin feedback[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Paladin[/hide], [hide](Paladin) The Light and How to Swing It[/hide][hide]The Light and How to Swing It: Retribution paladin feedback[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 05 Oct 2011 19:00:00 EST.
