The Daily Quest: Looking good

WoW Insider’s on a [hide]Daily Quest[/hide] to bring you interesting, informative, and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.

I can’t really decide what my favorite thing from the patch 4.3 PTR is. I don’t know if it’s the fact that I can customize my gear to look pretty cool … or the new dungeons that are relatively quick, challenging and filled with plenty of worthwhile loot … or the fact that I’ve suddenly got 80 slots free in my bank. I can’t wait to see what the Dragon Soul raid has to offer, but right now, the next patch is looking really, really good.

Today we’ve got some posts from around the blogosphere regarding the PTR and patch 4.3.

[hide]Mania’s Arcania[/hide] found a new [hide]hunter pet with two unique looks[/hide] over on the 4.3 PTR.

[hide]Cynwise’s Battlefield Manual[/hide] has a guide on prepping for patch 4.3 and [hide]Season 11 PVP gear[/hide].

[hide]Apple Cider Mage[/hide] goes over some of the many changes on the [hide]PTR servers[/hide].

Is there a story out there we ought to link or a blog we should be following? Just leave us a comment, and you may see it here tomorrow! Be sure to check out our [hide]WoW Resources Guide[/hide] for more WoW-related sites.

Around Azeroth: Big daddy

[hide][/hide]
While exploring on the PTR, [hide]Hubaljin[/hide] of [hide]Chubby Rain[/hide] on Genjuros (EU-H) and his mount ran into the new model of Nozdormu in Dragonblight. Hubaljin tried to explain to the bronze dragon lord why he now has about 3 million children, none of whom he remembers and all of whom are being used as mounts, but the concept of «easy achievement» doesn’t translate very well into draconic.

The Queue: The olden days

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] will be your host today.

Remember when we bought music on CDs? Yeah. I had an MP3/CD player. It was awful.

chaosdefined asked:

Can someone remind me why there were two Tier 9 sets?

During the Trial of the Crusader, Blizzard was all about giving the Horde and the Alliance different items visually and in name while still keeping the stats of each the same. Players had always been clamoring for a differentiation between Horde and Alliance looks, mostly because of the age-old sentiment «Why would I wear what he is wearing?» If you notice, the Crusader Coliseum sets were also lower in number than most tiers because of the need to make separate sets. So plate-, chain-, leather-, and cloth-wearers all had separate sets, but recolors of each set were used instead of each class’s having its own set and its being different based on faction. The names of each set also referenced a different hero of the Horde or Alliance, based on in-game class affiliation.[hide]Continue reading The Queue: The olden days[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: The olden days[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 07 Oct 2011 11:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: How to Win at Alts

[hide]Wowcrendor[/hide] is tackling that sticky subject: what to do when you’re bored. In [hide]How to Win at Alts[/hide], the master of sarcasm decides to play around with a new character to alleviate some ennui. While he’s mostly addressing the idea of alts, I feel like he’s talking about creating a new character in general.

I enjoyed the ending of the video, in which Wowcrendor addresses some meta issues with his videos. I hadn’t really seen anyone complain about his endings, but I guess those complaints must have happened. I applaud Wowcrendor for his self-aware humor.

Is this your first year at [hide]BlizzCon[/hide]? Don’t worry if it is — we’re here to help you. BlizzCon is a huge event, and Blizzard fans from across the nation gather to get their game on. While it might seem like a big, confusing mess, BlizzCon can actually be broken down fairly simply. What the heck goes on at BlizzCon?

As we get started, let’s throw a shout-out to the Friday night [hide]WoW Insider & Wowhead Reader Meetup[/hide]. It’s not an official BlizzCon event, of course, but we’ve been doing it for a few years, and everyone knows where to go. The pre-party itself is a fantastic time when we all get together at the Anabella (right near the convention center), drink, play some contest games, take pictures, hobnob with celebrities, and enjoy a little show. The party’s so good, we stream it! If you’re anywhere near Anaheim Thursday night, come enjoy a good time with fellow Blizzard friends.[hide]Continue reading WoW Rookie: Guide for the BlizzCon rookie[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Rookie[/hide][hide]WoW Rookie: Guide for the BlizzCon rookie[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Fri, 07 Oct 2011 13:00:00 EST. World of Wardrobe: Slinking around Serpentshrine for tier 5

Heading back to pick up some awesome armor sets from vanilla WoW or that dazzling weapon that’ll have your enemies cowering in fear? [hide]Transmogrification[/hide] makes it possible — and [hide]World of Wardrobe[/hide] shows you how.

The Burning Crusade offered several tiers of raid content, but unlike classic WoW, those first few tiers were available upon release. Vanilla WoW didn’t offer all that raid content right up front; players had to wait for [hide]BWL[/hide], [hide]AQ40[/hide], and ultimately, Naxxramas. This didn’t mean you could just hit level 70 and waltz on into any raid content you wanted, however. There was a progression between tiers of raids, and the tier loot reflected that progression.

Players were expected to complete [hide]Karazhan[/hide], [hide]Gruul’s Lair[/hide], and Magtheridon’s Lair (roughly in that order) in order to move on to the next tier of content. In order to guarantee that order of progression, Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep both required attunement chains to be completed before raid groups could enter. These chains required items from — you guessed it — Kara, Gruul, and Magtheridon. Serpentshrine and Tempest Keep both offered pieces for a new set of tier, tier 5.

Like tier 4 before it, tier 5 is split between the two raid zones so that raiders would experience both raids before moving on. Vashj’s watery retreat, Serpentshrine Cavern, was the first stop for most raid guilds. Handily located in Coilfang Reservoir, the raid didn’t require flight to get to.

Scattered Shots: State of hunter DPS

[hide][/hide]
Every Thursday, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Scattered Shots[/hide] for [hide]beast mastery[/hide], [hide]marksmanship[/hide] and [hide]survival[/hide] hunters. Frostheim of [hide]Warcraft Hunters Union[/hide] uses logic and science (mixed with a few mugs of Dwarven stout) to look deep into the hunter class. Mail your hunter questions to [hide]Frostheim[/hide].

A couple days ago, I posted some [hide]4.2 DPS analysis[/hide] by spec, looking at how different specs’ DPS deviates from the median of all specs. This research was partially in response to a quote from Ghostcrawler in a Developer Watercooler where he talked about the change to the 10% AP buff:

Ghostcrawler — Lead Systems Designer

Hunter DPS is fine, or even high in 4.2, so we didn’t want this buff to extend to them, which is why the AP benefit is now 20% for melee attacks but still 10% for ranged.

[hide]source[/hide]

When I was digging into the data, I looked at a lot more than just the eight charts that I posted in the DPS analysis article. The majority of the data sets I looked at supported just about everything Ghostcrawler said in his Watercooler — including the state of melee DPS and fury warriors.

While I truly have a fondness in my heart for many of the hard-working support classes in WoW, I did not really do that research for them. I did it to learn more about where hunter DPS stands. So please join me after the cut today as we take a look at the state of hunter DPS.[hide]Continue reading Scattered Shots: State of hunter DPS[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Hunter[/hide], [hide](Hunter) Scattered Shots[/hide][hide]Scattered Shots: State of hunter DPS[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Thu, 06 Oct 2011 17:00:00 EST.
