Free character transfers open from Outland-EU to select EU realms

If you’re on the Outland (EU) realm, you’re in luck! Blizzard’s Vaneras has announced in a blue post today that free character transfers have been opened [hide]from Outland to Agamaggan, Burning Steppes, and Vashj[/hide].

According to [hide]Warcraft Realms[/hide], all three destination realms are very lightly populated, which is likely the rationale behind this offer. Transfers will only be available until Oct. 18, so if you need a fresh start, now’s your chance!

Free Character Migration (FCM)

The below FCM is available until October 18 2011. The migrations are open to both factions:

From: Outland

To: Agamaggan

To: Burning Steppes

To: Vashj

Spiritual Guidance: Shadow priest FAQs

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Spiritual Guidance[/hide] for [hide]discipline[/hide], [hide]holy[/hide] and [hide]shadow[/hide] priests. On Wednesdays, shadow priesting expert [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] comes from out of the darkness to bask in your loving adoration (and on occasion, to be helpful, too).

Hey everyone. I’m so excited I could just puke, because BlizzCon 2011 is almost here. It’s like Christmas is around the corner. I’m so excited I can’t sleep. I’m also so excited that I don’t want to sit down and get my work done, but to be fair, I get that feeling regardless of whether BlizzCon is around the corner or not.

I was so busy over these last few days getting ready for my trip to California that I didn’t even have time to think up a super-awesome topic for today. Thankfully, my loyal minions on Twitter responded to my call for help. They were kind enough to bombard me with a ton of general questions about shadow priesting.

And since I need the money I’m such an awesome guy, I’m going to answer a bunch of them right here and now.[hide]Continue reading Spiritual Guidance: Shadow priest FAQs[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Priest[/hide], [hide](Priest) Spiritual Guidance[/hide][hide]Spiritual Guidance: Shadow priest FAQs[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 12 Oct 2011 18:00:00 EST. The Classifieds: Trademark your guild name

[hide]The [/hide][hide]Classifieds[/hide] brings you weekly news from around the WoW community, including our famous Random Acts of Uberness shout-outs to players who make your WoW sessions memorable.

Oh my god. Oh my god, you guys — BlizzCon 2011 is freaking next week. Like, seriously, in a week, we’ll be in Anaheim sipping Horde and Alliance-themed cocktails.

Interestingly, The Syndicate, which has played together for [hide]14 years[/hide], has trademarked its name. This is what they say about the process:

Back in 2006, The Syndicate (www.LLTS.org) became the first online community to Trademark its name. Through development consulting and strategy guide writing «The Syndicate» came to mean much more than simply a tag within an online game. Thus the legal protections of having the name Trademarked were put in place. After five years of owning a mark, paperwork can be filed that makes the mark incontestable. That paperwork has been filed and approved and now The Syndicate(R) has been granted that status. Said another way, no one can come along later and claim that The Syndicate was used by them first within the online gaming space. The mark forever is limited in its usage to only the www.LLTS.org «Syndicate» group. In addition to that, The Syndicate has put several agreements in place with major game developers and publishers recognizing the mark and ensuring that its usage is appropriately restricted within their gaming worlds.

So. I guess everyone else with the name The Syndicate is infringing. Guess we better all get out there and start trying to trademark our name.[hide]Continue reading The Classifieds: Trademark your guild name[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Classifieds[/hide][hide]The Classifieds: Trademark your guild name[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 12 Oct 2011 19:00:00 EST. About the Bloggers: Josh Myers

About the Bloggers introduces you to the people behind WoW Insider. You can find articles on more of our staffers in [hide]earlier About the Bloggers profiles[/hide].
What do you do for WoW Insider?

I am a writer. I write! My general responsibility is to cover [hide]DPS shaman[/hide], once referred to as the Defense Against the Dark Arts position of class columns. I’m also one of the [hide]Choose My Adventure[/hide] crew, currently leveling a goblin priest named Clergelam. Finally, I occasionally write news or the rare [hide]Occu’thar raid guide[/hide].

What’s your main?

My main is the awfully named [hide]Elamqt[/hide], of Proudmoore. He’s a man-cow shaman, generally of the enhancement variety. When I started playing WoW, I went through a large variety of alts that I got to around level 20 and stopped playing. I fell in love with Elam when I discovered that he got [hide]Ghost Wolf[/hide] at 20 and wouldn’t have to wait until 40 to get a mount. He became my main then and has largely been my main ever since. I took a short break in Wrath of The Lich King to play a hunter — and am currently focusing a little more on my mage — but Elam is always first in my heart.

Horde or Alliance?

I’m a Tauren, but I don’t think much of the Horde’s politics. In particular, I hate Garrosh Hellscream. I hate him hard. But even without Hellscream, I don’t care for the Horde. I play Horde because I love Tauren, but if they were an Alliance race, I’d be there. I don’t really like the Alliance that much either, though. Pretty much, I’m just for the Herd.[hide]Continue reading About the Bloggers: Josh Myers[/hide]Filed under: [hide]About the Bloggers[/hide][hide]About the Bloggers: Josh Myers[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 12 Oct 2011 20:00:00 EST. Gold Capped: Legally buy gold with the Guardian Cub

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen and [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] aim to show you how to make money on the Auction House. [hide]Email Basil[/hide] with your questions, comments, or hate mail!

If you [hide]buy a Guardian Cub[/hide] with real money, you can sell it for in-game gold; effectively purchasing gold. If you’re one of the millions of WoW players who are constantly cash-strapped in game, you now have the option of leaving the whole gold making process to others: simply buy a 10$ pet that can be sold for gold on the AH. BoE gear, mounts, flying training, and alts are all expensive, and making money (playing the AH, doing dailies, selling valor point BoE gear, etc) isn’t the most fun use of some peoples’ time. This change will be a welcome one for those who would rather spend the time needed to make 10$ at their day job than hours grinding gold. Additionally, pet collectors who also play the gold-making game will be able to get a pet from the pet store without having to lay out real money for it.

So how much will these pets cost anyways? The answer will vary from realm to realm, but one thing is certain: the demand for the pets will spike out of the door, and fall off a cliff as soon as enough people have one. Also, repeat business isn’t any more likely than for other Blizzard Store items — I almost never see people sporting their [hide]Lil’ K.T[/hide] or [hide]sparkle ponies[/hide] these days, and imagine that few people still pay real money for them. As the demand drops off, these will sell for less and less gold. The supply is directly related to the number of people buying them from the store for resale on the AH. This means that the more gold the cubs are worth, the more supply there will be. Eventually, as demand peters out, people will be less likely to buy them for resale. In short, if you want to buy gold without breaking the terms of service, get it while the getting is good. The gold per pet will go nowhere but down, unless Blizzard likes this system so much that they introduce more items like this.[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Legally buy gold with the Guardian Cub[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: Legally buy gold with the Guardian Cub[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 17:00:00 EST. Totem Talk: Restoration’s pre-patch 4.3 activity guide

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Totem Talk[/hide] for [hide]elemental[/hide], [hide]enhancement[/hide] and [hide]restoration[/hide] shaman. Want to be a sultan of swing healing? A champion of Chain Heal? Totem Talk: Restoration, brought to you by Joe Perez (otherwise known as Lodur from [hide]World of Matticus[/hide] and co-host of the [hide]For the Lore[/hide] and [hide]Raid Warning[/hide] podcasts), shows you how.

With [hide]patch 4.3 on the PTR[/hide] and the next tier of raid content under way, many of us are wondering what to do to fill the time in between now, in the time after [hide]the great nerf[/hide], and the next content patch. Some folks have recently expressed concern at being bored until there is something new to do.

Truth is, there is still quite a number of things that you can do while you are waiting for the next big patch, from the very little things like just socializing with guildies and friends, to tying up those loose ends in the current tier of content. This week, I thought we could take a look at a number of various options you have at having fun and keeping busy in the pre-patch world.[hide]Continue reading Totem Talk: Restoration’s pre-patch 4.3 activity guide[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Shaman[/hide], [hide](Shaman) Totem Talk[/hide][hide]Totem Talk: Restoration’s pre-patch 4.3 activity guide[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 11 Oct 2011 18:00:00 EST. Blizzard wants you to Ask the Artists this BlizzCon

BlizzCon thunders towards us like some great thundering thing. This year, [hide]BlzzCon [/hide]will include a chance for you [hide]to ask questions on the forums[/hide] and have them answered at the convention.

BlizzCon: Ask the Artists — Zarhym

At this year’s BlizzCon we have a stage dedicated to featuring Blizzard artists of all disciplines and styles, from Glenn Rane (Digital Painting, Creative Development) to Samwise Didier (Traditional Drawing, StarCraft II). Whether you’re attending the event or watching from home, we’re giving you the opportunity to ask a question of the artists in this thread. All you have to do is list the discipline and/or category below which best fits your art-related question and ask away. If selected, your inquiry will be read and answered live from the Artist Stage at BlizzCon!

[hide]source[/hide]

[hide]

Head over[/hide] to the BlizzCon forums for a list of disciplines and categories including 3D modeling, trading card art, Cinematic Matte Painting and my personal favorite, Environment Concepts. I’d love to hear about the design process for WoW zones or the new Diablo III.

[hide][/hide]Turn to WoW Insider for all your BlizzCon 2011 [hide]news and information[/hide]. Get ready to kick off the weekend with the [hide]WoW Insider Reader Meetup[/hide] cohosted by Wowhead, and look for our liveblogs of the convention panels, interviews with WoW celebrities — and of course, lots of pictures of people in costumes. It’s all here at WoW Insider!

[hide]Ten things to do in Star Wars Galaxies before it’s gone[/hide]

When SOE announced that Star Wars Galaxies would be sunsetted by the end of the year, many players despaired. They gave up. They saw their long years (eight years!) of play turn to dust. But others looked on the impending closure as incentive to do all those things they’d been putting off. Check out the top ten things you must do before SWG’s closure.

[hide]Gazillion’s president says MMOs are in a rut[/hide]

«I think MMOs in general are in a rut. It’s still mainly WoW clones. A lot of people have done these games, but it’s been that same kind of gameplay, and that doesn’t mean that’s what it has to be,» says Gazillion’s David Brevik, who was also co-found of Blizzard North.

[hide]Devs reminisce on Dark Age of Camelot’s 10th birthday[/hide]

Dark Age of Camelot turns 10 this week, and if that doesn’t make you feel old, well, you’re probably not very old (and while we’re at it, kindly remove yourself from our lawn). At any rate, Scott Jennings waxes nostalgic about the fantasy RvR title on his personal blog by posting a remembrance from original Mythic producer Matt Firor.
