Lichborne: What to do with your new level 85 death knight in patch 4.2

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Lichborne[/hide] for [hide]blood[/hide], [hide]frost[/hide], and [hide]unholy[/hide] death knights. In the post-Cataclysm era, death knights are no longer the new kids on the block. Let’s show the other classes how a hero class gets things done.

So you’ve dinged level 85 on your death knight. Now what? [hide]Patch 4.2[/hide] bought a lot of new things for level 85s of almost any PVE playstyle to do, so you have options to choose from. This week, we’ll take a look at some of the best things you can do to get yourself geared up and ready to hit the next level of PVE play once you hit level 85.[hide]Continue reading Lichborne: What to do with your new level 85 death knight in patch 4.2[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Death Knight[/hide], [hide](Death Knight) Lichborne[/hide][hide]Lichborne: What to do with your new level 85 death knight in patch 4.2[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 15:00:00 EST. Safe Passage: There and back again

Welcome to another edition of [hide]WoW Insider’s Weekly Comic[/hide], Safe Passage.

One year later, and I’m back where I started. To this day, I still can’t believe that after my flagship comic, [hide]Byron, the Tauren Rogue[/hide], I was given the green light for another comic series. Safe Passage was actually one of the two ideas that I originally approached WoW Insider for, but I settled on Byron for my own reasons.

Byron was immensely helpful in more ways than one. If you remember my [hide]postmortem[/hide] from [hide]last time[/hide], it was essentially my training wheels, a way for me to get a feel for the processes, along with my own strengths (and weaknesses) in comic creation. The first and most important thing I had to do was to get a writer. My guild leader once again agreed to help me flesh out the story from the beginning, so I hope the story was more consistent this time around.

Safe Passage began when I first heard of the post-Cataclysm Camp Taurajo quest lines. I actually hadn’t done the quests when I wrote this; I hadn’t gotten into the beta, so I went purely on research. If you know of my [hide]other work[/hide], then you know I have a soft spot for our large, bovine friends, and I thought that the Taurajo situation in Cataclysm was the perfect level of ambiguity to make an interesting story.[hide]Continue reading Safe Passage: There and back again[/hide]Filed under: [hide]WoW Insider’s Weekly Comic[/hide][hide]Safe Passage: There and back again[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 16:00:00 EST. Shifting Perspectives: Gearing a restoration druid in patch 4.2

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Shifting Perspectives[/hide] for [hide]cat[/hide], [hide]bear[/hide], [hide]restoration[/hide] and [hide]balance[/hide] druids. This Tuesday, we turn our attention to intellect leather.

As a quick note, I’m going [hide]to revisit[/hide] our [hide]bear gearing guide[/hide] over the next few weeks in order to add PVP gear and to split normal/heroic versions as per the request of our commenters; I agree that the present version probably isn’t as convenient as intended. I’ll drop another note in the column once I’ve finished with that.

There’s lots of new gear for restoration druids to look for in [hide]patch 4.2[/hide], so — as with the bears — it’s high time to update our gear lists. Once again, I’ve split the guide, and the ring, weapon, offhand, relic, and trinket column will run next week, as they require more discussion.

As this guide addresses gear that’s been added to the game from the Zandalari heroic level through Firelands, it’s probably most helpful to people who are already sitting on a few epics (or at least heroic blues). If you’re a fresh level 85 restoration druid or still leveling, you’ll probably find our previous series on gearing a resto druid more immediately helpful, but please keep in mind that stat priorities have shifted more toward mastery these days:

[hide]Chest, bracers, gloves, belt, legs, boots, and rings[/hide]

Blood Sport: Having fun in the arena, part 2

Want to crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women? [hide]C. Christian Moore[/hide], multiple Rank 1 [hide]Gladiator[/hide], examines the latest arena strategy, trends, compositions and more in [hide]Blood Sport[/hide].

My internet is still down. Yes, this has been two weeks of hell. No Google, no easy check on the weather (I have a motorcycle), no instant directions — and most importantly, no images or videos of scantily clad … orcs. World of Warcraft has been out of my bloodstream for yet another week.

Having fun in arena is one aspect I don’t necessarily need a WoW window open to write about, so we’re going to cover some bases that I might have forgotten last week — namely, how to be a good teammate and encourage a fun atmosphere, and having fun while both winning and losing.[hide]Continue reading Blood Sport: Having fun in the arena, part 2[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Analysis / Opinion[/hide][hide]Blood Sport: Having fun in the arena, part 2[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST. Reader UI of the Week: Pathanos’ clean and simple setup

[hide][/hide]
Each week, WoW Insider and [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] bring you a fresh look at [hide]reader-submitted UIs[/hide] as well as [hide]Addon Spotlight[/hide], which spotlights the latest user interface addons. Have a screenshot of your own UI that you’d like to submit? Send your screenshots along with info on what mods you’re using to [hide]readerui@wowinsider.com[/hide], and [hide]follow Mathew[/hide] on Twitter.

Last week, Reader UI of the Week profiled Lellee’s UI and a call for help in [hide]fixing up a non-widescreen UI[/hide] and just making the whole thing work a little bit better. One thing that I try to do during a call-for-help-type article is point people in the direction of an example of what I am trying to articulate. In this case, I wanted to profile a user interface that is simple enough to replicate on your own with a minimal amount of configuration addons, with an acceptable amount of time needed to create it. That’s what today is about — the philosophical process and a general outline to making your user interface look nice and tidy, just like our friend Pathanos has here.

Pathanos’ UI is built around a [hide]Razer Naga[/hide]-plus-keyboard setup for his tanking paladin. In the screenshot, you will see his sparse raiding UI, a clutterless view space that allows for plenty of information gathering while not being an addon monstrosity. Hopefully we can get you up to speed as well as to what is needed to set up something like this, with a quick understanding of the concepts needed, where to start, and what you want to look for when building it.[hide]Continue reading Reader UI of the Week: Pathanos’ clean and simple setup[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Add-Ons[/hide], [hide]Reader UI of the Week[/hide][hide]Reader UI of the Week: Pathanos’ clean and simple setup[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 19:00:00 EST. Gold Capped: Staying ahead of inflation

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Gold Capped[/hide], in which [hide]Fox Van Allen[/hide] and Basil «[hide]Euripides[/hide]» Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the auction house. Feed Fox’s ego by [hide]emailing him[/hide] or tweeting him at [hide]@foxvanallen[/hide].

Do you remember the moment you hit 1 gold for the first time? I do. I was killing mobs in Ashenvale, vendoring [hide]Light Feathers[/hide] and other various trash drops. It was an epic moment. That first piece of gold felt like so much money.

It wasn’t a lot of money, of course — it just felt like it. But still, it was worth a heck of a lot more than one piece of gold is worth today. The reason: Azeroth suffers from a constant state of hyperinflation. The purchasing power of 1g is always falling, and it’s falling quickly.

Thankfully, though, you don’t have to stand by and be a victim.[hide]Continue reading Gold Capped: Staying ahead of inflation[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Economy[/hide], [hide]Gold Capped[/hide][hide]Gold Capped: Staying ahead of inflation[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 15 Aug 2011 18:00:00 EST. Spiritual Guidance: A priest’s notes for healing The Firelands, part 1

Every week, WoW Insider brings you [hide]Spiritual Guidance[/hide] for [hide]discipline[/hide], [hide]holy[/hide] and [hide]shadow[/hide] priests. [hide]Dawn Moore[/hide] covers the healing side of things for discipline and holy priests. She also writes for [hide]LearnToRaid.com[/hide] and produces the [hide]Circle of Healing Podcast[/hide].

Well, class, I’m back. Mr. Matticus said you all were very well-behaved in my absence, and from what I understand, you got through all the work I left with him. Unfortunately, we’ve still strayed away from the curriculum, and there’s quite a lot of catching up to do if you’re to do well on your heroic assessment tests.

Now, I’ve put together this study guide for healing through the first four encounters in the Firelands. Does anyone know what those are? That’s right: Shannox, Lord Rhyolith, Alysrazor, and Beth’tilac. We’ll be having a practice test at the end of the week so I can see what sections we need to work on.[hide]Continue reading Spiritual Guidance: A priest’s notes for healing The Firelands, part 1[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Priest[/hide], [hide](Priest) Spiritual Guidance[/hide][hide]Spiritual Guidance: A priest’s notes for healing The Firelands, part 1[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 15 Aug 2011 19:00:00 EST. Officers’ Quarters: More on raid saves

Every Monday, Scott Andrews contributes [hide]Officers’ Quarters[/hide], a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership. He is the author of [hide]The Guild Leader’s Handbook[/hide], available now from [hide]No Starch Press[/hide].

Part of good leadership is admitting when you’ve made a mistake. I admit it: When I wrote last week’s column about [hide]trash farming[/hide], I was operating under the old raid ID system where the ID is shared among everyone. As many of you were quick to point out, that is no longer true. Each player simply gets saved to the bosses they’ve killed, plus any required bosses for those killed bosses, if the player didn’t kill them. If you (like me), completely forgot about this new system, here’s the full explanation of [hide]how raid saves work now[/hide].

I wish I could say that I was jet-lagged from traveling halfway around the world, feverish with a strep throat infection and disconnected from WoW after not playing for more than a month. Actually, I was all of those things when I wrote the column. It’s not an excuse for fumbling such an important point. There really is none, but I hope my readers will forgive my lapse in accuracy. I’d like to thank everyone who pointed out the error for the benefit of any readers who may have been confused.

Now that I actually know what the heck I’m talking about, let’s revisit the issue and talk about a few other controversial topics in the context of raid saves.[hide]Continue reading Officers’ Quarters: More on raid saves[/hide]Filed under: [hide]Officers’ Quarters (Guild Leadership)[/hide][hide]Officers’ Quarters: More on raid saves[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Mon, 15 Aug 2011 20:00:00 EST.
