Zarhym hints at cross-realm raiding

In a recent player-created thread about [hide]cross-realm raiding[/hide] on the official forums, Community Manager Zarhym popped in with [hide]seven enigmatic words[/hide]:

Zarhym

We have some plans. They’re good plans.

Around Azeroth: Mistress of the dark

[hide][/hide]
Oh, the goth girls are taking their Facebook pictures in Azeroth now? This bodes ill for the future of my friends list. [hide]Vephriel[/hide] of [hide]STRIKE[/hide] on Nesingwary (US-H) posed in Deadwind Pass while wearing her [hide]Black Embersilk Gown[/hide], which I now totally want to own. If only real-life humans had the Warcraft ability to make any piece of clothing fit perfectly simply by putting it on! We could save so much money on alterations.

The Queue: Transmogrification

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. [hide]Mathew McCurley[/hide] will be your host today.

So, we’ve learned from Gamescom that patch 4.3 will contain a feature that allows you to [hide]change what your gear looks like[/hide] with some sort of cosmetic slot or reforging. We have no idea how gear transmogrification will work, but I think that it will work similar to reforging, maybe? I don’t know. I’ll be honest — I never thought that this was something Blizzard would do, because of its adamant stance on what gear means in WoW as a status symbol and gauging players’ progress just by looking at them.

I mean, don’t get me wrong. I am excited for more character customization options and armor transmogrification. To be truthful, I would rather have more customization for my character’s face, skin, build, and all that over gear, but I will take what I can get. Now to decide which warrior tier to wear …

Oh, right. Questions.

mik3st3r asked:

Why do only some flying mounts work in ground mount-only areas? For example, my Netherwing Drake does not work in a raid such as the Firelands, however my Windrider does. I believe somebody asked something similar to this before, and the answer was they tried to make creatures which made sense as ground mounts usable. Windriders have legs. But so do Netherwing Drakes?[hide]Continue reading The Queue: Transmogrification[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: Transmogrification[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Wed, 17 Aug 2011 11:00:00 EST. Deathwing fight will feature a ride on his back

German site [hide]Buffed.de recently posted[/hide] a rundown on the newest patch 4.3 news from Gamescom in Germany, where Tom Chilton revealed that part of the Deathwing fight will take place on the back of the Aspect of Death. We might actually be fighting Deathwing multiple times, with one of the fights being on his back. The translation is a little fuzzy, but there will definitely be some fighting while in-flight as players try to bring the great dragon down.

Gamescom has already brought us [hide]huge WoW news[/hide] in the form of the gear transmogrifiers as well as gear storage NPCs and the fact that we will get to face Deathwing sooner than we thought. Stay tuned for more announcements.

Brace yourselves for what could be some of most exciting updates to the game recently with [hide]patch 4.3[/hide]. Look at what’s ahead: new [hide]item storage options[/hide], [hide]cross-realm raiding[/hide], [hide]cosmetic armor skinning[/hide] and your chance to battle the mighty Deathwing — from [hide]astride his back[/hide]!

Raid finder coming in patch 4.3

It seems like only yesterday the blues were giving [hide]hints at a beefed-up raid finder[/hide] coming in a future patch or expansion.

According to an [hide]interview with Kotaku[/hide]:

Finally, Chilton and Chris Metzen, vice president of creative development at Blizzard, explained a new feature coming with the patch called «Raid Finder». The Raid Finder essentially operates like a dungeon finder, automating the search for fellow players on the hunt for a good raiding party. It will be built into the game’s updated user interface when the patch hits, they said.

The Kotaku article doesn’t call it a «cross-realm» raid finder, but I think it’s safe to assume that it will be — otherwise, it’ll just be like the one that’s in game now (you remember that one, right?). There’s no more details on the interface or accompanying restrictions on the new raid finding, but expect that information to be discovered or announced soon.

The Queue: One-man WoW instances

Welcome back to [hide]The Queue[/hide], the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky, senior Alliance-only editor, will be your host today.

I’ve been thinking a lot about BlizzCon this year, and I’m going to go out on a limb and say we’ll see at least one large and drastic departure from the current WoW paradigm.

Yes, Blizzard could announce just the normal expansion and assorted dungeons, profession additions, classes/races, and so on … But that’s not going to shake things up. It’s not going to push them to the next level (whatever that is). It’s not going to compete with Star Wars in terms of hype.

Cataclysm? My guess is it was but a prelude to other earth-shattering changes.

Greenymeany asked:

So, a while back, I had heard a fleeting rumor of somebody datamining something about one-man instances. I’d really like to know if there’s any truth to this, because if it actually does happen, it would be glorious.[hide]Continue reading The Queue: One-man WoW instances[/hide]Filed under: [hide]The Queue[/hide][hide]The Queue: One-man WoW instances[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 11:00:00 EST. WoW Moviewatch: Dire Wolves

Work warning: Violence exists in this video. You’re as shocked as I am.

[hide]

This video[/hide] from [hide]Bloodvein[/hide] is a trailer for a rated BG team called Dire Wolves. If you don’t recognize the computer’s voice, we’ll help you out: That’s none other than the incredibly talented [hide]Sharm[/hide]. We’ve seen a lot of guild trailers and inspirational spots for raid teams, but this is the first trailer for a rated battleground group that I can recall.

The video eschews plot but is still fairly epic. I can definitely see this video helping to get members psyched and pumped up before some rated BG matches. The Windows joke at the end is also well worth the laugh.

The animation and graphics are amazing as always, which is what we’ve come to expect from Bloodvein. The guy has a heck of an eye for compelling footage.

Dev Watercooler: Ghostcrawler discusses massive changes to threat

The [hide]Dev Watercooler[/hide] returns with a long, meaty, and controversial post from Lead Systems Designer Greg «Ghostcrawler» Street all about threat stats and the ever-changing role threat plays in World of Warcraft encounter design. In this newest blog, Ghostcrawler muses about last December, when he and his team were preparing to [hide]revisit and rework threat stats[/hide] to make them more compelling for tanks. Since then, the developers have changed their minds about the role of threat completely, almost eliminating threat altogether.

Ghostcrawler addresses the biggest point with the most passion — threat isn’t fun. It never has been, and threat stats aren’t fun to balance. Personally, as a tank, the most contempt and frustration I have for World of Warcraft comes from my inability to control DPSers who can’t stop pressing their buttons for a second. It’s just not fun to get mad at unskilled players. Ghostcrawler wants interaction between new and experienced players to be positive, and when DPSers blame undergeared or new tanks for threat issues when they have successfully beaten Ragnaros to a pulp and taken his gear, it doesn’t make for a positive experience.

With patch 4.3, threat is going to become largely a non-issue. Threat is being increased to five times damage, up from three times damage. Each tank will be given new active defense cooldowns, much like death knight’s [hide]Death Strike[/hide]. Warriors, it seems, will be getting the biggest redesign of the bunch, with rage causing a big problem with how warriors need to spend resources to maximize survivability. DPSers will largely be unaffected and will, in fact, have less time when they have to stop attacking or stop their rotations, because threat will be less of an issue.

Check out the full blog post for more information on the huge changes coming to threat in patch 4.3. There is a lot coming in the future, and we will be testing this stuff heavily on the PTR and have more information when it becomes available.[hide]Continue reading Dev Watercooler: Ghostcrawler discusses massive changes to threat[/hide][hide]Dev Watercooler: Ghostcrawler discusses massive changes to threat[/hide] originally appeared on [hide]WoW Insider[/hide] on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 12:30:00 EST. WoW Archivist: Patch 1.9, The Gates of Ahn’Qiraj

The [hide]WoW Archivist[/hide] explores the secrets of World of Warcraft’s past. What did the game look like years ago? Who is etched into WoW’s history? What secrets does the game still hold?

As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, patch 1.8 did not include a brand new raid tier. Players thought nothing of it at the time. It was perfectly normal. What patch 1.8 did was lay the groundwork for the following patch. It revamped Silithus, and that revamp was utilized in patch 1.9 with the opening of Ahn’Qiraj and the massive world event surrounding the parting of the gates.

In addition to the opening of the Ahn’Qiraj gates, patch 1.9 also includes:

Linked auction houses

Raid lockout revamp

Paladin class review
